This poem began as something written about myself, then it shifted to nothing, and then it shifted to something about someone else that I don’t even know. Heh.

I'm getting away

I can't stay

Eyes big and scared,

watching me in the light

of the broken street lamp

Can't stay, have to stay

Can't laugh, have to hold back

There's blood on your neck

on your lips on your legs

You are the one, the real one

Not the moonlit diva with the flapping mouth

Not the silly girl who can't stop laughing

God's butterfly trapped in

a cocoon of flesh

The blood spilled is yours

Darkened by time

You have hidden, too

scared to show the toll of time

Saddened by the liars with

smooth skin

Saddened by the liars

you call home

A shadow in the window

could mean the death of you

Could be just the beginning

The light in the curves

The escape you can't take

Trapped in your cocoon of flesh

Respite comes only with sleep

Brief visitor but welcome -

so welcome.

Only the scrawl on the walls can keep you awake

Only the giggled lies behind your butterfly mind

Your bones in a bag, tied too tight to dream,

symphony of shades in your head

where the beauty hides

Snatches of profound mind

Washed away in the tides

The toll of time

of mind

Red-eye engine

Drum in your chest

You are never-ending.
