1 Dragons, the world of Legend

2 ‘The beginning of a friendship’

Chapter One

Dragon

My name is Vixen. The vast plain on which I look at was once, motionless. The world was of darkened ash and the sky rained smoldering fire. There once was nothing but rock and fire from this world of which I live in now. But, yet now there is life.

Legends of the world speak of the Gods which descended from the fire itself, to create a world for which life would go on. There were five Gods. One of the pure water, Zarrie which put out the fires that seemed to come from the mouth of hell itself, the second of light. The god of light, luminosity made the shining sun which stands in the sky. Turning the once black sky into a blue covered sky. The third of life, Animate. Animate, made the grassy plains and the creatures. The fourth, God of Magic. His name was Dragoman, he made the magical creature which would watch over the world. The last, God of pure. Chaste, was his name. He made the goodness of the creatures. The hearts, as it is said that beat in the chest of every creature that moves.

In my world, there are many things that are both good and evil. Right now, the world is at peace. It was not always like this. At one time, the world was dominated by the magical creatures who had turned to the side of evil, killing all the humans off one by one. I was only twelve at the time. Now, I am a man. My age is twenty.

I do not stand that tall, but I am taller than most humans I have met. I had light brown hair with dark brown eyes. My skin is light, from hiding in the forests of the world. I wear green and brown clothing. They are called tunics. I also have a hat on my head which is of a leaf green. I wear a brown belt along with my tunic and green shorts. I had brown boots that came half way to my knees and a brown pouch connected to my belt, to carry berries in.

I know what you are all thinking. Another Hero story right? Well, my story isn’t like your average story. Mine, is way different. Let me take you back in time, before I met my friend. When I was in hiding. Maybe then you will see why my story is different.

It all started on a spring morning. The grass still had morning dew, from the cool breeze. A light fog was on the ground, spread like a white blanket covering the forest. I livid in a clearing, near the middle of the woods along with my mother and older brother.

My mother was a weak woman. She usual fell sick during the winter times, so it was up to my brother, Vitally and I to get the winter food. My father had died from a magical creature who had turned on him. We never found the creature.

My brother was only three years older then I. He was almost a foot bigger then me. He was a strong person, always had a sense of pride in the air around his body. Held his chin up, his back straight. Things that would make him look taller and bigger than he already was. He would chop down wood, go hunting and skinning for warm winter coats.

I was another story. I was weaker then a normal boy my age. My hair was fuzzy, always a mess. I was not big enough to go hunting, so my job was to collect berries, fruits and other kinds of plants we could eat. Even though I am ashamed to say it now, I was a coward back then. I was scared of every sound I didn’t know, every beast that would walk into my path and things that I saw in the corner of my eyes.

Even though I was a coward, and my mom was mostly always ill, I had a fair life. But, all that changed. I can remember it now, like it just happened. The day I regret, yet praise at the same time. It was the day, a magical day that changed my life forever.

I was off in the woods, looking for something fun to do. When I heard a twig snap behind me. I took of running without even seeing what was behind me. I hit many branches along the way. I had scarps on my face, arms and legs. I ran past everything I could remember, into a clearing. I had never been there before. I suddenly realized my mistake in taking off like that.

I spun around and tried to go back, but whatever had snapped that twig, was coming this way. I looked around for a way out, anything I could hide in or behind. I looked to my left, nothing. I looked to my right. I saw a rock, just big enough for me to hide behind. I ran over to it and hide. Pulling my knees to my chin and holding onto them. I shivered with fear.

I heard whatever was following me. There were more then one. It was a pack. I could hear the rhythm of wolf paws hitting the ground. There was no doubt in my mind it was a pack. They came closer and closer to where I was hiding. I could hear them stepping on leaves as they went, sniffing the air with their noses. I heard one growl and another one sniff right above my hat. I closed my eyes tightly, waiting for it to spot me, then something grabbed it.

I felt hot liquid run down the back of my shirt, the side of my body that was against the rock. Drops of red liquid were in front of me. I looked up and saw the most startling thing in my whole life, a huge green colored dragon, with only part of the dead wolf in it’s huge mouth, filled with razor sharp teeth. I could hear the crunching of the wolf’s body against the pressure of the Dragon’s jaws.

My eye went completely wide. I made a slight gasp as I watched, too scared to do anything else. I saw it turn its head to the other wolves, who had scampered off already. It sniffed their tracks.

I stood up slightly, looking at the dragon. I finally noticed what it really looked like. It’s skin was not green, but like a shining crystal color. It’s skin reflected the color of the forest, so it was harder to spot! It also had nostrils the size of my fist. It’s body was covered in an armor type of skin. It looked as hard as a rock. It had two black horns on top of its head, bending backwards. It had strong looking wings, which had a white horn near the center on each wing. Its tail had yet another horn like blade at the end. Its tail was ticker than my body.

I heard a low growl come from its throat. I shivered in fear from it. Then, tried to tip toe away from the meat eating beast. Then, the ground gave alittle shake. I heard the Dragon turn around. Even though I had my back to it, I knew it was staring at me. I slowly turned my head around and saw it’s eyes. It had purple eyes, that looked like the most richest gems in the world. They each had a glow in them that was hard to place. I could do nothing but stare at the beast as it stared back. Neither moved an inch or moved a muscle. Waiting for the other to do something.

It blinked at me, then turned it’s head slightly to the side. Like it was questioning me. It walked on all four legs, and slowly came up to me. I took a step back as it inched closer. I took off running. I turned my head back around so I could see what was in front of me, but it was too late. I slammed right into a low tree branch. I hit the ground. I could feel pain surging through the area where I hit my head. I could feel the sticky liquid of blood sliding down the side of my face already.

I lay on my back, my vision blurring. The last thing I saw before I fell into darkness, was the Dragon’s face staring down at me.

I woke up with a start. I almost flew out of bed, from how fast I sat up. Which was a mistake, because my head started to pound. I laid back down. I looked around myself. I was back in my home. My home was a cabin, with a wooden table, three wooden chairs, a fireplace and three beds. Simple, but it worked. There were two cabinets in the house. One for food, the other for medicine. Medicine that was herbs, plants and potions for all illnesses. I felt my cut, feeling a cloth covering it, and a blanket around my body. I looked around, with a dizzy feeling still noted in my head and vision.

I heard the door open and close. Light footsteps then my Mother’s face.
