Bulk Pickup day is a day when plus-size trash is taken away to a dump (or someplace like that). In the weeks prior to BPDay, households remove huge, or just plain ugly things from their abode (Go Mrs. Pepitone with her vocabulary wrods of the day! YAY!) Objects such as bright orange lampshades and your mother’s brother’s friend’s aunt’s dog’s pooper scooper can be found under enormous piles of junk.
Apparently, this day brings the sanitation worker out in many people. Citizens, as you may have seen, drive around, development-by-development, in pickup trucks and rather large SUVs in order to obtain these strange objects. However, IT does get dangerous.
Throughout my years of Bulk Pickup watching experience, I have witnessed many events, both strange and pathetic. Once, I observed two cars almost ram into each other when fighting for an object. I have failed to remember who won this battle, but it was a skirmish over a chair. Who knew?
Though some trash seekers see this occasion as a sport, others find it a cultural and artistic event. These participants fiud something old and turn it into something new. Certain experiments resulting because of Bulk Pickup include: making table-hockey tables out of old tabletops, creating picture frames from beat-up chair legs, and taking anyhting home and watching Martha Stewart in order to sprout an idea or two.
