I know I’m supposed to write the next chapter of Mistake but this idea kept buzzing in my head and it was distracting me from studying for my exams. I had no choice but to get it out of my system before it drove me nuts. Updates on this story will be done only after I finish the Mistake series. Writing too many stories at one time confuses my little brain. =]
Disclaimer: This is an original anime/manga. Originality is the main word here, plagiarism sucks. Other than that, I hope you enjoy this story.
For real
Chapter 1: dash : how I got stuck with the monster
“You’ve got to be the luckiest person in the world!”
I scowled at Isaki, my supposed best friend, and threw my pen at him.
He avoided it easily, much of it due to the fact that I had lousy aiming skills. Know those booths that they have during carnivals where you hit the target with a ball or something and win a prize? I threw mine at the vendor. He sure wasn’t happy about that.
“What’s so lucky about me?”
He retrieved the pen from the ground and threw it back at me. It hit me in the middle of the face and bounced onto the table. I rubbed my forehead out of habit though it didn’t hurt.
Isaki was on the baseball team and one of their best pitchers. He never missed a target unlike me.
“Here she comes!” He winked at me and pretended to be absorbed in his library book. “Here who comes?” I hissed urgently; there were only two possible answers, one of them was the girl that I had a crush on ever since I met her and the other, the person that I wanted never to see again for the rest of my life.
I ducked down, looked at my notes all the while stealing glimpses at the path beside me. She swept pass in a blaze of flying hair and hurried off without so much as a glance in my direction.
It was the monster.
I breathed a sigh of relief as she took no notice of me, deliberate or not, I didn’t care. “She seems angry, what did you do to her?” It was just so typical of Isaki to think that I had angered her when most of the time, it was usually the other way round. Why could it have been Autumn Soyokaze instead?
She was (obviously) named after the season she was born in and one of the nicest girls in school. Hey, I’m serious here, she’s really, really sweet and being rather pretty also adds to her charm. I’m a sucker for girls like that.
My friends on the other hand however, tell me she’s boring and that they prefer the monster. Oh sure, the monster’s cute but that’s all there is to her. Or is there? I should know, after all, I created her. That’s right, I, Dash Kentajo, computer prodigy, brought to life a being that hates me and as it that isn’t bad enough, she just won’t go away.
I can’t believe it happened a month ago, it seems like I’ve been tortured by her for eternity.
The monster has a name, I will tell you how she got it soon but first, I shall explain my fatal mistake on that Friday night.
I am in the computer club, where all the ‘losers’ who have no girlfriends are. My classmates thankfully, don’t consider me a geek but they don’t think the world of me either. Let’s just say I’m somewhere between the popular crowd and the nerds. The bullies leave me alone and no one bothers to start a conversation with me. One reason would be that I couldn’t stop gushing about my beloved computers and the new program that I was developing.
What was all this got to do with the monster? Everything.
The program was supposed to test a person’s IQ by scanning the brain but it somehow created her instead which is why her IQ is unnaturally high.
I think.
I was in the lab, testing out the system when it went out of control. I dived behind the desk for fear of being blown to bits but all I heard was the cackle of electricity and a strange shimmering light dancing across the walls.
When I was brave enough to look, I saw a girl standing in the middle of the debris with her back towards me. That was not the weirdest part; the girl was wearing absolutely nothing. Yup, she was naked and then she turned around, the blood went straight to my head and out of my nose.
While I tried to stop my nosebleed, she began walking round the room, randomly picking up objects as she moved. She finally paused at a terminal and lifted what looked like a CD case to her eyes. One of the other members must have left it behind. “Namie.” She said, tracing the name on the case with a finger.
She turned to me and I noticed that her eyes were pink. She smiled “My name is Namie.” And then observing my futile attempts to stop hyperventilating, she glared at me “What are you looking at, geek!”
It was then that I decided I hated her.
So my creating her was an accident, a huge accident at that.
I am so regretting it now.
The monster lives with me and I am the only occupant. I’m an orphan and yes, I’ll say it, I’m another unwanted baby left on the doorstep. Corny but true.
Living with me means that not only does she get to torture me in school; she also gets to do it in the comfort of my home. I told her she’s free to leave anytime she wishes to but no, she would rather stay so that my inferiority can make her feel good about herself.
Deep inside, I can’t help but feel a sense of responsibility for unleashing her into the world and so I put with her.
“What is your problem?”
I blinked “What?”
Isaki shook his head at my apparent stupidly “You live with a major babe and you tell me there’s nothing between the both of you?” He raised an eyebrow and leaned closer to my face with what I think was a hopeful expression.
If I told him that she wasn’t real, would he have believed me? Nah. Honestly, I still don’t know what she is or how she came to be.
“You can have her if you’re so interested, I only like-” He cut me off with a sweep of his arm “Yes, you only like the dull ones.” “She is not dull!”
“Who’s dull?”
Why did the monster always have to appear at exactly the wrong time?
“You are.” I answered shortly “Aren’t you late for class?” She shot a cold look at me but I ignored her. “I forgot something.” She informed me icily before storming off.
“Hey Isaki!” I heard her shout, “How can you stand being with an idiot like Kentajo?” Heads swirled around to look at me as laugher rang out from all corners of the schoolyard.
I flushed and jammed my headphone over my ears and turned up the volume but there was no sound. I just changed the batteries yesterday so there couldn’t be flat yet or could they?
I whipped around but she was already gone. Did I forget to mention that she can control both electrical and electronic stuff? Lights, appliances, basically anything that required power to run. The extent of her ability to control appliances is scary. She even tried to run me down with a truck once.
She can do much more than that which I will tell you in time to come.
She must have drained my batteries to get back at my comment. There goes my hard earned money down the drain; I work at the bookstore during the weekends. The allowance from the government isn’t enough, especially since I have to feed her too. For a girl, she sure eats a lot.
I’d rather be working at the computer shop across the street but thanks to the monster telling them how careless I was, needless to say, I didn’t get the job.
I get the feeling that she’s simply here just to make my life miserable. Wouldn’t you agree?
To be cont’d... after mistake is done.
