Hourglass

This is truly where I stand

Although this may not seem

The hourglass pours forth gold sand,

While I live on in a dream.

My virgin eyes betray my age

Though my age betrays my wisdom

Horrors and beauty converge in sage

As you welcome me to your kingdom.

The magic shimmers before my eyes

Petals unfold against my skin

Deprive me of all demise

You have made me of your kin.

I look at my changing reflection

In a sphere that ceased to lie

Eyes drowned in affection

Watching who I used to be,

Fade and die.

Suddenly all that used to cling to me

Escaped from my grasp

I had never been what I claim to be

The world of mortals a dream of the past.

The days and nights know now distinction,

No race,

The sun and the moon spew brilliance in song

No creature living knows wrong

As the truth emerges in its grace.
