Roses, Hemlock and the Crown of Thorns
Part One
The moonlight liquid
A moonbeam stabs
The silver pain takes me by surprise
Part Two
Hallowe’en
Morning
The toilet-paper banners dejectedly announce
The sunrise
And the shattered remnants of eggs
Decorate/desecrate
The windows
The white runs
And the yolk puns
……………………….
I don’t get it.
NOT THE LADY – EVEN BETTER
A ring of silver
Dances around the
Edges of my consciousness
A fiery brand
Is burned into her collar –
Bone
His chain isn’t tattooed
But it’s more real than the
2.5 dollar bill
she keeps in her shoe
and she prays for rain
so she can jump in the puddles
joylessness gone for an instant
her feet wet
with the waters
of compassion
Liberty stands still
Caught in headlights
- frozen -
the brand thaws because her microwave is broken
(like her innocence)
delicate lace unveils her serenity
an inquisitive wave wears her stony smile down
beneath rock is her clay heart
heavy with unwanted obsession
the crystal unearthed
Liberty stands strong.
LADY MACBETH
Silver-green tendrils
Creep up a silken lute
The gold shimmers like a ribbon
But my scythe of gray obstructs
The pastoral joy
A knife –
How odd
That the blood won’t wash out
Of stainless steel.
BOYSEN-BERRY
You silly goose
Don’t poison me
Want me to choke
And turn blue?
This is the last straw.
You rasp at my nerves!
I mull over the consequences
But condone the black
Cherry.*
This is the pits.
*Surprise! I hope some readers appreciate the overall pun. J
