Chapter 1: Prologue

Lydia gazed into the young man’s eyes. He seemed so familiar, yet she didn’t even know his name.

“Miss! Miss! Oh, do get up. Please!” the garden maid cried softly.

Lydia’s eyes opened to the soft crisp summer nighttime air. A warm breeze blew around her. She had done it again. She had fallen asleep in the garden.

The young princess raced to her bedroom. Up the golden-bordered stairs to her perfumed chamber. She laid down on her silk bed and thought about the dream she had in the garden. The perfumed air indulged her. This dream had come many times before. Of a man that swept her off her feet and she lived happily ever after. Although this would never happen.

She was already betrothed to the rich and powerful Prince Lazoom who was heir to the Forest Kingdom. Why this would not make her happy is hard to tell, but will be told.

When she was the age of 7, Lydia was playing in a flowered field with her neighboring kingdom friends – one of which was the Prince Lazoom. After a race which the Prince had lost and was very angry, the Prince told Princess Lydia that his father had told him that one day she was going to be his queen and that she would have to obey him.

Lydia didn’t like any part of that idea then or even now. And since her father agreed to the idea of them being betrothed 3 days ago in exchange for a peace treaty, the Princess felt her life in ruins.

A/N – Thanks to those who have already reviewed!! Please, continue reading!
