Notice Me

My brace was removed today

After months

Of restraint

Now I have lovely straight teeth

I smile at you as you approach

You do not notice me

I bought new clothes today

Bright colours

A little revealing

Showing a different side of me

I parade before you as you come in

And you do not notice me

I had my hair cut today

A new style

Short and layered

A drastic change of length

I show it off in front of you

But you never notice me

I tried on make-up today

Lipstick, eye-shadow

And liner

Looking grown-up and mature

I come right up to you

Still you do not notice me

I dyed my hair today

Nothing vibrant

Just a tinted shade

Enough to make a difference

I sit beside you at dinner

Though I know you'll never notice me

I stayed in my room today

Admit defeat

No point in trying

For you always see through me

Dad, all I've ever really wanted

Is for you to notice me
