Passion

He was waiting for her

when she got home

It was sudden

his reappearance

one second he was a memory

the next, he was there

sitting at the bottom of the stairs

Waiting for her

he hadn’t seen her yet

she could still turn away

she stood still,

undecided, looking down at him

he sensed her

always could

He turned, stood, gazed up at her

She read his eyes

always could

taking the stairs, silently one by one

stopping before she reached the bottom

Looking at him

It’d been so long since she’d seen him

but she saw his eyes every night

in that hazy place

between awake and asleep

She continued down the last two steps

past him, slipping the key into the lock

she felt him behind her

pressed against her

She stopped breathing

his arm slid around her waist

pulling her even closer in

her breath returned with a quick, short gasp

Fumbling, she opened the door

he followed her in

closed the door behind him

his arms went immediately around her

urging her closer

She wrapped her arms around his neck

realized they still fit together perfectly

He grasped her face in his hands

his palms on her checks

ran his thumbs across

as if brushing away tears

staring at her, into her

always could

Bending down, his mouth was on hers

her hands on the back of his neck

his hands in her hair

their mouths together

tongues entwined

He moved his hands down to her waist

around to her stomach

felt it moving with her breath

he moved again

pulling her sweater away from her skin

his hands finding their way inside

She gasped into his mouth

when she felt his hands on her breasts

his fingers stoking the lace of her bra

she pulled her mouth away from his

reached down, pulling off her sweater

in one swift movement

then she stood before him

as if in offering

His gaze made her feel like a sunset

beautiful and fiery

She reached for him,

clutching at his waist

his arms went around her

his mouth, open on her throat

She clung to him as if her saving grace

She saw his eyes every night

in that hazy place

between awake and asleep
