Kanos Chosen 6

la! I can never leave cliffhangers for long. ..italics is....dreams? Not quite reality.

Vali- The reason this world sometimes seems like a fantasy world is because it is NOT our world. They state as much in the beginning. They claim to be a parallel universe that split off waaaay near the beginning of humanity's history. In many ways their technology is more advanced, but they don't have atomic bombs(guns yes, bombs..no.), and their gods are very real. I could take forever describing the differences. The reason objects and such are named the same is either because they stole it from us, which they started doing the moment they found out about parallel worlds, or it's for clarity's sake. I can't go around calling every character he now can I? ^_^; Most of history played out the same way, which is why there's speech patterns that are the same, and the religion Merian is working on killing IS the dominant religion on their world...but not the only religion.

Cenalyis and Merian both looked at Sebastian. "Of course he looks like me. He comes from my brother's line." Cenalyis said.

After getting over the initial shock, Sebastian noted the differences between Merian and Cenalyis, besides the sanity. Merian's face was slightly more delicate, and he was shorter, and oddly enough broader than the shining avatar before them. Cenalyis radiated madness and amusement, while Merian glared at him defiantly, and tapped his fingernail on the flat edge of the knife.

They were both inbetweens, both of similar coloring and at first glance he had noticed that resemblence, but now...there was no mistaking identities.

"Cenalyis, we do not wish to fight, come peacefully to your death." Merian commanded.

"Peacefully? Hm. Maybe. But first..." He stopped talking and his expression changed from playful to annoyed. He turned around and threw the woman who had been sneaking up behind him into the man in front of him. "Stupid."

Marja scrambled to her feet.

"Where was I? Oh yes..." The soft glowing light from Cenalyis grew, engulfing the three humans before him.

Sebastian drifted, he watched everyone drift away. Merian's voice echoed. "You'll never replace Devon."

..."I hate you."

Sebastian tried to ignore the voices, but they came faster.

..."You're not good enough!"

..."I have to teach you how to fight? Pathetic!"

..."Stupid urth man."

Sebastian screamed, and the voices laughed.

"No...this isn't real." He said with certainty.

Marja turned another corner in the maze she had found herself in, only to come to another dead end. "He doesn't love you." A nagging voice in her mind whispered to her, "He loves Merian, and only fucked you for convience. They'll find a stronger woman later."

"That's not true." She told the voice, holding back tears at it voiced some of her deepest fears.

"They'll leave once this is over. You are only together because of the bond of Kanos chosen."

"Lies." She stopped walking and stared at a blank wall. "This is all a LIE!"

Merian was surprised he could see through the light, but there was Cenalyis before him. "Well now, it's just you and me." He said. "You know what I'm going to do right?"

"The price of power...I dare to destroy the gods. You will give me the means to put it back."

Cenalyis let the ornate robe he wore slip to the ground. "This will probably hurt you a great deal."

Merian closed his eyes when Cenalyis touched his face. "You look more like your mother. That fool was wrong."

"Just get it over with." Merian said, as he watched his fingers drop the knife. He tried to kneel to pick it up, but found his body wouldn't obey him anymore.

Cenalyis buried his face in Merian's hair and inhaled deeply. "So full of life..."

"Do it, damn you." Merian screamed. "Before I change my mind."

"It's too late. Your mind is not yours to change." Cenalyis said, and he ripped into Merian, physically and mentally. Merian screamed.

"Daddy, look at what I found!" A much younger Merian held up a struggling kitten to Jarod. Jarod smiled and picked Merian and cat up.

"Do you want to keep it?"

"Can we?"

"I'm sorry father, I've shamed you." Merian fell to his knees at Jarod's feet.

"How have you shamed me?"

"I have used the gift you have given me to a destructive means."

Jarod walked around him. "Defense. That is what I have taught you. To attack another is wrong, but to attack another in someone elses defense...that is something slightly different. There is no shame in protecting those weaker than you. You must learn to make these kind of moral desicions. I'm proud of you."

"How did you know?" Merian asked, looking up.

Jarod smiled. "Your teacher called home."

Merian sat by the bedside of his father. Jarod's brown-red hair had lost the vibrant curls and waves, and fell against his face in a stringy disarray. "Merian, we both know I'm dying."

"You are not! You will get well." Merian said, gripping his father's hand.

"I'm sorry Merian. I love you and I'm proud of you, always remember that."

"I'm so tired now..." Jarod shook his head, a tiny movement, as his body was't capable of much more, and closed his eyes.

"No...I need you, don't go...don't go!"

Cenalyis pulled away from Merian's body and mind, leaving the inbetween a wreck. "He would be proud of you today." He picked up the knife and placed it in Merian's hand. "End this."

Merian, suddenly in control of his body again brought the knife up and under Cenalyis' jaw.

Cenalyis held his hand over Merian's. Sebastian and Marja watched the light flow from Cenalyis to Merian, and then it was gone.

After long moments of silence, Marja touched Merian's shoulder "It's over. Lets go home." Merian nodded.
