The Death Of Latin
Latin is
Becoming
Tarnished:
It is more than simple for ideas
To be spread out
Upon wounded
Birds, broken fields, rambling
Paths that
At one point, had
Meant something more
Than the idea
Everything was white:
White as marble white as cotton
White as powdered
Faces white as pure theory
And promise then the
Sun turned gold and now
Too
Many doors have been opened
The fields overrun
Brambled: the rusted fences
Torn pastures
It is as if
All the
Peasants started
Speaking
Greek
And the Gods were torn from their pedestals
Their white marble pedestals
That is
How it is:
Latin is being tarnished they
Are letting
Anybody
Speak it and the whitened
Romans
Mourn
