Kings And Ghosts Off Exit 33

I've always been fascinated with the city of Charleston and its history. That's why a lot of my poems deal with this subject. Anyhow, please read and review!! Thank you so much!

Kings And Ghosts Off Exit 33

Every night the low
Scrub is alive with
Human records and
Cries. This is the

Lowcountry. Exit 33 off I-95
To Charleston(here)

Here. Every-so-often it
Appears guilded under-moon
And myth. Not
The secret trails
As the hinterland. No. Here
The Kings
Exert domain over Time:
(Middleton. Rutledge. Laurens.)

Charleston
Lies as it has
For time and time, Charleston
Lords over
The rice fields that
Are hotels and gas pumps. Here
And the horses are
Restless where they stand,
The fine families
Because once there was
Aristocracy.

Here.

Kings and ghosts: the rice
Fields buried beneath highways.
