"Midnight"
By: Midnight
late at night,
in my bed
with the black heavens above,
singing me to sleep.
i wonder if you can relate.
do you look to the night sky
like your savior,
your world,
your life?
when you look up there,
so late at night,
do you see
what i see?
it's funny,
that night--
the blackest
and darkest of all things--
can save me from
my darkest hour
and bring me to the light,
and make me feel alive,
make me feel real
and beautiful
and worth it.
lay
in the darkness, the
sweet darkness of nighttime.
listen to the quiet
tap, tap, tapping
of the spring rain
against the wet pavement,
and contemplate.
the pavement,
barely lit
by the dim light
of streetlamp.
listen, to the quiet
rustling
of the moonlit tree.
leaves, bathed in pale light
by the silver face
of the smiling moon--
not bright, not gaudy,
but still smiling down.
feel, taste, smell
the air,
the sweet night air,
like roses,
that can pull you out
of the darkness,
and into the light
of the morning.
