##Human Being##

Most good poems have something that click to the writer as they construct them, and resonate through the piece. I got an echo from this one, and as I go back over and read it a few more times, more echoes ring out to me. Please read carefully if you'd like to hear something from this poem, as I sincerely hope you will. Thanks.

**IMPORTANT** Poet's note: This is an exchange between two minds; it is written out, but was never spoken aloud. The first speaker (not indented) can be considered as some inquisitive exterior spirit force that has an inkling of a human conscious, but with a more independent nature, that regards this representative of mankind (indented). Anything in parentheses is a human reaction, like a stage direction. The speakers alternate each line, starting with the spirit-voice.

##Human Being##

What do you want?

I want love

What do you need?

I need nothing

Why do you want what you do not need?

I am selfish

You are not

I am

You are not because others believe in you

I do not believe in myself

You are successful

Yes

You know this

Yes

Then you chose not to believe

We all chose not to believe

Why?

We are afraid

You are alone

Yes

Then why do you say 'we'?

(pause) I wish it were so

Do you believe wishes come true?

No

Why?

Things happen or they don't. That's just the way it is.

Do things happen to you?

Yes

Do you like them?

Sometimes

When things happen, do you wish to reverse them?

No

You accept change then

Yes

What is God?

God is change

Do you mean that?

No

What do you mean?

Life is change

Is God life?

No

What is God?

People's wishes

You don't believe in wishes

No

You don't believe in God

No

Are you afraid?

Yes

Why?

I am human

Humans are afraid?

I am

Why?

I put myself in action, which puts me in danger, which gives me fear

You do nothing now

I speak

You do not

I learn

Yes

I put something in nothing to lessen my fear

What do you fear?

What I do not know

Why?

I do not know

You are a paradox

Yes. As are you

No, I am nothing.

You are something

I am you

No

Yes

How?

What you do not know frightens you

It gives me fear

Is that not the same?

No

Why?

I choose not to accept the fear or make it part of me

Why?

So I may live

So you may change

Yes

This is your religion?

I have no religion

You have no God

Yes

Yes you have no God or yes you do have a God?

Yes

You give two answers for every question

Yes

Why?

You ask them twice

You change

Yes

Will you change your answer again?

Possibly

Do you wish for love?

(pause) Yes.
