Secrets

Prologue

Shadows of darkness creeped upon the white alabaster walls of the museum as a watchman swiveled his flashlight around the long dark marbled hallway. Satisfied with the vision of the empty hallway, he turned around to walk back toward where he came from to retrace his nightly route.

As soon as the watchman and the light vanished, a figure suddenly swooped down from one of the shadows of darkness and nimbly made her way to another room following an invisible route only she could see.

Suddenly a beam of light flashed and without hesitation she quickly hid herself in one of the crooks of the walls. This was bad. She didn¡¯t expect the watchman to come back to this place as quickly as this. She had memorized the pattern of the watchman¡¯s route and had carefully planned an alternate route that she would take to avoid any troubles. She hadn¡¯t even made another plan in the case that this mission was to be done urgently as possible.

The figure shook her head coming back to the present. Right now, her prediction was wrong. End of story. She¡¯d just didn¡¯t even have the time to reprimend herself for her carelessness right now. All she had to do right now was to get the required item as fast as possible.

She started to jog but made precaution to jog silently. As soon as another beam of light flashed her way, she did a somersault, avoided the light, and kept on continueing to run.

After many tortuous turns, the figure stopped suddenly in front of metal door that could be only passed through by with an identity card from one of the employees. Taking off the black leather gloves she wore, she laid her hand upon the machine.

The machine reacted quickly to her touch. Random numbers started to flash through the tiny screen on the machine. Then a click sounded and the screen flashed green giving her access to whatever was stored inside the room.

The metal door swished opened and she stepped inside. Heading directly to one of the many chases that were stored inside the room, she again touched the electronic metal lock and it clicked open.

The chase¡¯s door opened to reveal a fragment. Putting back on her gloves, the figure reached out to take it. She studied the silver and white designs of the piece with curiousity in her cerulean eyes. Then tucking the item into a bag that was wrapped around her waist tightly, she began to take flight out of the door.

However, she didn¡¯t take an inch out of the restricted door when thousand beams of flashlight were directed her way blinding her vision.

The visor she had on her head didn¡¯t help shield that much light. She winced, trying to make out the figures. Her black hair was tied back in a ponytail and that obscured the length of her hair. A black suit covered her whole body. And she clutched the bag that was around her waist possessively.

A voice from one of the people that had surrounded her called out to her. ¡° Freeze! You¡¯re surrounded!¡± Whoever yelled didn¡¯t even get a chance to finish as suddenly the whole place was hit by a smokebomb.

As soon as the smoke had cleared, the figure had disappeared without leaving any trace. The watchmen however, determined kept searching but found nothing. One of the watchmen that had called out to the figure took out a transmitter and putting it toward his mouth, and sent three words. ¡° She got away.¡±

Outside, the night had begun to fade and dawn began to take place. The excitement was over. Police cars and reporters had started to rush toward the museum at alarming speed when they heard the sign of burglary. Out of the excitement, nobody took notice of a girl in the age of fifteen walking down the street. Her shoulder length black hair were in two neat braids. Her outfit consisted of a high schooler¡¯s uniform.

They didn¡¯t even give her a second glance as they passed but the girl observed them from the corner of her eyes. She sighed. She had failed this mission. She shouldn¡¯t have even attracted the attention of a watchman if she had done this correctly. Sighing again, she continued her way toward Bayville¡¯s High School that was starting it¡¯s first day of school in just two hours.
