Prologue

In the world of Sylvaron, magic comes in a variety of forms, be it curses or spells of healing. The source of all magic lies within individual people. These individuals are referred to as spell-casters. Magic can be released by force of will or by reciting a spell. Some have more magic than others. Weaker spell-casters rely heavily on recited spells, while the stronger ones can cast a spell with just their will.

Using too much magic can literally kill a person. When this happens, nothing remains but char. To avoid going up in flames, the spell-casters must carefully watch their magic reserves. The magic will replenish after some time. This time delay varies based on the strength of the spells used by the spell-caster.

One way to use a spell repeatedly without adverse affects is by imbuing an ordinary item with a spell. The magic permeates the object and keeps the user from wasting magic that could lead to a possible death. Few spell-casters have the dexterity or patience required for placing a spell in an object; imbued items are extremely rare. A common item used for imbuing is a slender stick, sometimes referred to as magic wands. These are easier to carry around than a sword, which can be heavy and cumbersome.

In Sylvaron, magic is the way of life. Magic is used for everyday activities and for special occasions. Wars are fought with weapons and magic. Combining skills in combat and magic is hard, rife with danger and often undesired because of the dangers. Very few have ever attempted to combine the two arts. Those that succeed at combining these skills are the stuff of legend.
