Authoress’ Note:
This is short, it’s not really much more than a setting sketch with a bit of plot... not even. Thank you for reading it, though. Please leave me a review after you’re done. Thanks! ~ Kuri dancing_
Unheard Truths
A crisp, fragrant breeze rustled through the sheer brilliance of scarlet, copper, and gold. Dried, delicate leaves drifted downwards as round, clouded eyes, usually bright and clear, gazed upward in melancholy thought. Through pools of rippling azure, a musing sigh escaped slightly parted lips.
Strands of auburn hair broke the intent gaze. Gracefully, a hand brushed the hair away and took up a pen. The girl turned back the lilac notebook on her lap. Leaning back on the sturdy tree-trunk behind her, she tilted her head upwards and lifted the tip of the pen to her mouth, trying to formulate words for her ever-swirling thoughts. Hesitantly, she brought the pen back down to the paper and began writing.
“Summer has passed, and autumn has arrived. As beautiful as it is, I’m left with a strange ache in my chest. I know things must end... but why?” Pausing for a moment, she glanced at her surroundings. Tall trees shivered in the brisk breeze, and leaves flowed down like rain, performing an intricate dance with the wind. She sighed once more.
“Even this autumn will end. Winter will come, and the trees will be bare. Time will continue on and on, and the world will change with it. What if I get left behind? What will happen to me?” She smiled faintly as she answered her own question.
“I won’t get left behind. Even if I don’t change, things will change me... just like the seasons... and like the seasons-” The girl stopped. The faint thought in her mind repeated itself. “I’ll end, too.” She shook her head vigorously and pushed the thought out her mind. Closing the book, she left the thought incomplete. She stood up and brushed the crushed leaves off of her skirt. Gazing at the trees around her one last time, she turned and walked away into the distance.
