This is the summary of the story. First off, the main character is NOT, I repeat NOT me. I got my user name from this story idea, but I changed the last name. I had this idea before I joined fanfiction and Kitai means hope, and Matsuru means being of. The character of this story’s name is Kitai Matsuro, meaning hope and faith. She is NOT me, just a character I created.

CHAPTER 1
The Girl
The sky was a black color, a color that was seen often nowadays. The puddles of water on the ground, left from a fresh rainfall, would ripple every once in a while when a stray drop would fall from an overhanging pipe or street sign. The city looked as if it had been abandoned. It was a mess. There were cracks in some of the buildings. Some street signs hung downward and were bent in various places. The dark clouds from the recent rainfall still hung in the sky. The only light came from the few streetlamps that were still intact.
Through the silence, there was but one sound that penetrated it. It was the steady sound of footsteps. They were getting louder by the second and never seemed to lessen, always staying at the same pace. Three figures appeared, coming down the dark streets. One was taller and much more bulk than the other two. He walked in front of them. As they came into the light, they stopped briefly and looked around.
The taller man had short black hair. The other two were around the same height. The one who was slightly taller was a boy with dark orange hair. It was in a mushroom cut and hung down just a little passed his ears. The last was a girl with navy colored hair. It was short and framed her face, but she had one side tucked away behind her ear, allowing the rest on the other side to hang down her face, nearly covering her left eye. All three of them were wearing black. The two men wore black pants, a white t-shirt and a black over shirt. The taller man had his buttoned so that it covered the white shirt while the other man left his open.
The girl wore tight black pants, a black shirt and an over shirt that was of the same color. It was tight fitting on her slim frame. Each of them wore a pair of black sunglasses and an earpiece over their right ear. In their hands, they each held a handgun.
The taller man glanced at the other two behind him. They all nodded their heads and then proceeded forwards. They left the light of the streetlamp and moved onward into the darkness. As they walked, they continuously scanned the area. On the ends of the guns were small lights that allowed them to see what was in front of them.
To the side, something streaked by in the darkness, making very little noise. The figure could barely be seen. The girl quickly turned to where it had been and aimed her gun. The light scanned the area, finding nothing. The other two stopped and turned towards her.
“What’s wrong?” asked the taller man, his voice deep but soft. She didn’t speak, just lowered her gun and shook her head.
“It’s nothing. I thought I saw something, that’s all,” she said.
“Let me see,” said the other man, his voice sounding younger than the first. He walked over to the girl and looked around the area, finding nothing.
“Let’s go,” said the taller man. They continued to walk until they stopped near another streetlamp. This time, something made a noise. It sounded like a shriek of some kind, very loud and very long. They all raised their guns, scanning the area. They stayed close, their backs to each other.
“We’re not alone,” said the taller man. The sound came once again, only louder. They looked up, only to find what they were looking for. A huge creature stood on the building. It was at least twice as big as any one of them and much more bulk. The arms were long and slender, along with the legs, which were shaped like that of a raptor’s. Its claws on its hands and feet were long and deadly. They looked as if they were made of ivory. Its head was the only part of it that was a normal size. The creature was bald with a smooth looking scalp. Its eyes were a ruby red color and glowed an eerie light in the darkness. It opened its mouth to let out a loud cry, revealing the many sharp, white teeth it had and the two fangs that were much longer than any of the other pearly whites. Its skin was a brown and green color, smooth and sleek as rubber. The creature was hunched over, crouching with its hands pressed on the roof of the building.
“There it is,” said the taller man.
“No problem, I can handle it,” said the other. He aimed his gun up towards the creature.
“No, wait!” yelled the girl. It was too late. He pulled the trigger, releasing not a bullet, but a laser pulse that raced towards the creature. It made contact, but the creature didn’t seem hurt in the least. Instead, it let out another screech and then stood up straight, showing its full height. It turned its ruby eyes to them and smirked wickedly.
“Look what you did!” yelled the girl angrily.
“Never mind! Let’s go!” shouted the taller man. The three of them began running down the street, as fast as they could. The creature jumped form the building, landing on the street and cracking the cement. It then proceeded to chase the three of them. It wasn’t long before it caught up. The girl looked over her shoulder and saw it coming up fast.
“We have a problem!” she yelled.
“I know, but we can’t do anything about it! All we can do right now is run!” yelled the taller man.
“Then why do we even carry these guns?!” asked the other man, his voice holding a high level of annoyance.
“I don’t know! We’ll work on it when we get back!” The creature was practically right behind them now.
“We’re not going to make it!” yelled the girl. The creature was about to strike them with its claws when something flew out from the right and hit the creature, knocking it away. The three of them stopped running and turned to see what had happened.
The creature was still rolling until it put its feet down hard on the cement ground and jumped back. At the same time, what had hit it jumped back as well. The three people stood there in shock at what was before them. The thing that saved them appeared to be human and female, but it was too dark out to see much more than that.
The creature lunged at her, but she kicked it away easily. It lunged again and this time, the fight ensued a little longer, both contenders throwing punches and kicks. The girl jumped upward, jumping higher than any human ever could. Her feet touched the side of the building near the three spectators, and she quickly pushed off, aiming towards the creature. She extended her arm, ready to strike it, but as she neared it, the creature moved out of the way quickly and she punched the ground, cracking a large portion of the street. She quickly used her arm that was pressing on the ground to throw herself back up into the air. She pressed off the side of one building and onto the top of another that was across from it. The creature was left below.
The girl put her arms forward, placing her hands a few inches apart, palms facing in. A small ball of glowing light appeared in her hands. It grew quickly and seemed to be pulling in small particles of blue light. The creature below didn’t look happy. It gave out a loud cry as two large wings quickly extended from its back. The wings were white and feathered, not something normally seen on such a hideous creature.
It flew into the sky and came just in front of the girl. She looked at the creature, and the ball in her hands stopped growing. She faced her palms out, still keeping the distance that was there. The ball exploded into a huge beam of white and blue light. It grew larger as it went out further. She stepped back with her right foot in order to brace herself. The beam collided with the creature, completely engulfing it. When the light finally cleared, the creature was gone, not a trace remaining.
The girl dropped her arms to her sides and jumped off of the building and back onto the ground. She landed gracefully and then turned to look at the three people dressed in black. She was now in the light of a streetlamp and they could see her completely. Her hair was a cerulean blue. It came down nearly to her shoulders. Her bangs were spiked on one side and hung down normally on the other. Her eyes were a deep cerulean. She wore black pants that fit tightly. Over them, she wore a short, purple skirt. She had on brown boots that came up a few inches above her ankles. Over her shoulders was what looked like a poncho, only shorter and more elegant, like a small cloak. It covered her shirt completely, showing only part of her arms and her hands. She just looked at the three people now in front of her.
“Are you guys alright?” she asked, her voice holding genuine concern. She had a light and delicate sounding voice, but it was obvious that it could be used fiercely as well.
“Yes,” responded the woman simply. She was still in partial awe. The girl just smiled sweetly.
“That’s good,” she said. She turned around and started walking away.
“Wait a minute, I want an explanation,” said the young man with orange colored hair. She just kept walking, so he ran up behind her. “Answer me,” he demanded as he tried to grab her shoulder. Her hand shot up quickly, grabbing his wrist. She had stopped walking. He tried to get his arm free, but failed to do so. Even through all his struggling, her arm didn’t move an inch. She eventually let go, and he stumbled backwards. She glanced back at them before fully turning around again.
“I have to go,” she said as she began walking away.
“Wait,” said the taller man. “What’s your name?” She stopped again and turned slowly.
“Me? It’s Kitai. Kitai Matsuro,” she said. He nodded his head.
“My name is Jake,” he said. He looked towards the girl who stood next to him. “This is Kaya.” The girl nodded her head. Jake then looked to the boy in front of him. “And this is Tori.” Tori was currently examining his wrist. Kitai simply nodded to them, a small smile on her face.
“Can I ask you a question?” asked Kaya.
“Alright,” said Kitai.
“How did you do that? You took that demon out easily and we couldn’t even scratch it.”
“Well, I’ve always had these powers. The way I see it, I’m the only one who stands a chance against them.”
“So, you fight demons?” asked Tori in a rude tone that displayed his slight disbelief.
“Of course.”
“Well then,” began Jake, “why don’t you join us in our fight against them?”
“What?” asked Kitai.
“We work for a special organization that is trying to protect these people from the demons, and we’d really appreciate your help.” Kitai just smiled and bowed her head.
“Thanks for the offer, but I’m afraid I can’t accept.”
“Why not?” he asked her.
“Because I have a life here. I can’t just leave my school, my friends, and especially my mother. I’m really sorry, but I have to go now,” she said as she turned around and walked back into the darkness.
It was late out and the sky was a nightmarish black. Kitai ran along the streets as fast as she could, but eventually jumped upward onto the top of a nearby building and ran across that instead. Up ahead, in another area of the city, there were lights shining from nearby houses. The city was indeed falling apart, but there were still areas that were decent to live in.
She jumped to another building and then jumped down after reaching the edge of its roof. She ran a little further until a small house could be seen. It looked almost out of place in a city where the buildings seemed to touch the sky. She slowed down upon reaching it and walked up to the front door. It was the same dark blue color of all the buildings in the area, and if you walked a little further, you’d find more houses just like it. The lights were on and the chimney had smoke pouring from it.
She opened the door and looked in. The smell of a well-cooked meal was the first thing to catch her attention. She walked in all the way and shut the door behind her.
“Mom, I’m home!” she yelled. She quickly took off her boots and headed towards the kitchen. It wasn’t very big, but it was good enough for just the two of them. Her mom looked to her as she entered the room.
“Welcome back Kitai. Dinner will be ready in a little while,” she said. Her hair was the same color as Kitai’s, but it was much longer and straighter. Her eyes were an emerald color instead of blue. She wore a black dress and a white apron. Her hair was pulled back into a tight ponytail. She smiled to her daughter who returned it wholly.
“Alright mom,” responded Kitai. She walked into their dining room. It was quite small and ordinary. It was no different from any of their other rooms. All of them had yellow walls, a white ceiling, and wooden floors. Their table seated four, even though there were only two of them. It was nothing fancy, just a round, wooden table. Kitai took her normal seat and waited patiently for dinner.
“So, how was your day?” asked her mother. She walked out carrying two plates, each with some chicken, potatoes, and corn on them. She set one down in front of Kitai and then sat down with her own plate.
“The usual. School was kind of boring though. All we did was take finals, and I have even more tomorrow. It’s sort of boring, but at least there’s no homework.”
“How many days are left of school?”
“Only two. It’s gonna be great!”
“How about this summer we take a trip?”
“To where?”
“Anywhere you want.”
“That’d be great! It’s been a long time since we’ve done anything really big like that. It’ll be so fun!”
“I’m glad you’re excited.” She scooped up some mashed potatoes with her fork. “So, what took you so long tonight?” she asked. “You’re usually back way before dinner and you usually help with it.”
“I’m sorry mom. I got caught up in something,” she explained while cutting up her chicken.
“More demons, right?” questioned her mother.
“Yeah. There’ve been more than usual lately. It’s strange.”
“Was this one as easy as the others?” Kitai swallowed her food before responding.
“No. This one didn’t go down without a good fight. Not only have move been showing up, but they seem to be getting stronger as well. It’s strange.”
“Just promise me you’ll look after yourself, alright?” Kitai gave her mother a smile.
“Of course mom. I promise.”
Jake, Tori, and Kaya were waiting patiently on what appeared to be a lift. It was rather big, and the railing that surrounded the area where they stood was strong and sturdy. Jake walked over to an electronic keypad that was embedded in one of the poles on the lift. He flipped the cover up and typed in a four-digit code. He then pressed enter and shut the cover. The lift began to move downward.
The shaft was dark and empty, and it looked as if it was leading to nowhere. It began to get wider the further they went down until the walls of the shaft opened to reveal a huge room, brightly lit and with many people scrambling around. There were computers everywhere, some gathering data, some printing it. There were over five hundred people in that room alone, each taking care of a different problem. Some wore business outfits while others wore lab coats. There weren’t many that were dressed like the three of them. On the far wall, the letters D.I.A were largely written in black. On the same wall was a huge screen with many computers near it.
The lift stopped, and the three of them got off. They all walked down the aisle, over to the other end of the room, which was a long walk. They passed many desks with many people who were trying to keep up with the overflowing data they were receiving. It seemed like the room was in chaos. They kept walking and soon enough, they reached their destination. A man turned to them as they approached. He was wearing a white shirt and black pants. His hair was short and mahogany, hanging nearly to his ears. His eyes were a deeper shade of brown, but they were incredibly soft.
“Welcome back,” he said with a cheerful demeanor. They didn’t say anything to him. “I’m guessing the new weapons must have worked. The signal from that demon completely vanished not that long ago. Congratulations.” Jake just sighed and removed his glasses, revealing a pair of dark brown eyes.
“It wasn’t us,” he responded.
“What? But then what happened? If you didn’t destroy it, then who did?”
“You wouldn’t believe us if we told you,” said Tori. He removed his glasses as well and put them in his pocket. His eyes were a deep green color.
“Try me.”
“It was a kid,” answered Kaya. She also removed her sunglasses, seeing that there was no reason to wear them inside. Her blue eyes matched her dark hair.
“A kid?”
“That’s right,” said Jake. “A kid by the name of Kitai Matsuro.”
“No way…it’s impossible. No kid could have the technology that we have. We are the most advanced organization in the world.”
“It wasn’t a weapon that defeated that demon; it was her,” explained Jake.
“But…how?”
“We don’t really know,” responded Kaya. “We do know that she’s strong and that her power rivals that of the demons. She took it out easily. I wouldn’t believe it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes.”
“Why didn’t you bring her back here?” questioned the man. “You should have asked her to join us.”
“I did,” said Jake. “And she refused. She’s just a kid, and she said she has her own life and doesn’t want to give it up.”
“I see…” Just then, a siren began to sound off. The man turned back to the screen and quickly pressed a few buttons. The screen began to display different places in the nearby area.
“Come on,” he coaxed. He punched in a few more things and the screen narrowed in on a certain area. The green screen was like a grid, showing the shape of the land, which was being represented with a brown color, and the more it narrowed in, the more descriptive and detailed the layout became. Suddenly, a red flashing light could be seen on the screen.
“There it is,” he said. He brought up data on the screen. He read it through and then turned back to them. “This one is even bigger than the last one. You guys think you can handle it?”
“We don’t have much of a choice in the matter. We’ll go. Where is it?” asked Jake.
“Well, right now it’s in the northern part of New Hope City,” informed the man.
“That’s where we just were,” said Tori, slightly annoyed.
“Isn’t that around the residential area of the city?” asked Kaya.
“Yes, so I suggest you guys get going before it causes any damage.”
“Right,” responded Jake. The three of them turned around and quickly ran down the aisle. They got back on the lift, and it started to go up again after the code was retyped. They got off the lift the second it stopped and took a right. The door slid open and they walked into what looked like a garage. Surprisingly, there was only one car in it, along with one motorcycle. They made their way to the sleek, black car they had just been in. Jake got in on the drivers side, while Tori and Kaya both sat in the back seat.
Once they were in, Jake started the car and opened the garage door. The car drove out the door, going at top speed. It traveled upward for a while and then another huge door opened, leading them onto the highway. Jake pushed the accelerator as far as it would go and sped down the road, back towards the northern part of New Hope.
Not far from where Kitai had beaten the demon that had been chasing the three DIA agents, another one crawled out from the shadows. It was larger than the last one, but not by much. It hopped from building to building, its eyes glowing an angry red. It was heading towards the residential part of New Hope City, and it currently wasn’t that far off.
After jumping a few more buildings, it came to a house that seemed out of place in a city like this. The house was rather small, but it did have two floors. The demon stopped on the building next to it and just sat there, its ruby eyes glowing.
“Soon…” it said in a deep and dark voice. “Soon girl, you will pay…”
“I’m going to bed mom!” called Kitai from the stairway.
“Okay! Goodnight!” shouted her mother.
“Goodnight!” Kitai walked up the rest of the stairs and went into her room. It was small, but had what she needed. There was a bed and a dresser with a mirror. She didn’t even bother changing out of her clothes and just jumped in her bed. It didn’t take her long to fall asleep. Her room was always so warm and there was a window on the ceiling so that she could stare at the stars, but that didn’t happen often. The sky seemed to always be cloudy at night, but on clear nights she’d look up at them before falling asleep.
Just outside of her house, a demon was standing on a nearby building. It gave a menacing grin, the kind that could easily strike fear into the heart of even the fiercest of creatures. Its red eyes glowed viciously.
“The time has come,” it said. It didn’t even move its mouth when speaking. Its skin was a darker color than the first one that night. It opened its mouth wide and a ball of what appeared to be fire formed in it.
Not long after, the ball erupted into a stream of fire, hitting the small house. The wooden house quickly caught on fire, and once the fire started, it spread quickly. The demon gave its grin again, laughing in that same, deep, hate filled voice.
Inside the house, the flames were beginning to break through as parts from the ceiling fell, spreading the fire even further. In her bed, Kitai began to feel overwhelmingly hot, and her discomfort woke her up. She quickly sat up and looked around as she saw her room burning. Luckily, her dresser wasn’t on fire yet, so she ran to it, grabbing a small red book off of the top. She quickly tucked it away in her pocket and ran to the door, kicking it open.
“Mom!” she yelled, but she saw no sign of the older woman. “Mother!” She quickly ran down the stairs, the fire blazing everywhere she went. She jumped over some of it, but avoided most of it, knowing that if she tried to jump it, she wouldn’t make it. She was strong, but she was still made of flesh and blood.
She ran to the kitchen area of her house, the flames dancing everywhere. She then saw the woman she had been looking for. Her mother was surrounded by the hellish flames.
“Mother!” called Kitai. Her mother looked in her direction, relieved to see her daughter’s face.
“Kitai. Thank goodness you’re alright,” she said.
“Mom, I’m coming.” She tried to get to her, but the flames were too hot, and the fire blazed as more wood fell from the ceiling.
“Kitai, get out of here!” demanded her mother.
“I’m not leaving without you. I can’t!” Just then, a huge explosion erupted in the house, shaking the very ground it stood on.
Just outside, a black sports car pulled up near the house. The doors opened as Jake, Tori, and Kaya stepped out, their eyes wide.
“Look at this,” said Kaya with horror and shock present in her voice.
“We were too late,” said Tori downheartedly. Just then, another explosion erupted from the house. The fire flooded out from the door and something came along with it. They all turned to see just who or what came flying from the house.
“Is that…?” started Tori.
“Kitai!” yelled Jake. The three of them ran over to her. She had scrapes and scratches all over her body and was partially covered in soot from the fire. She was lying on the ground, unconscious.
“Hey, wake up,” said Kaya. She shook Kitai slightly, and surprisingly, the younger girl opened her eyes. She tried to focus on the people who were around her and soon enough, her vision cleared.
“Where…what happened?” she asked. She then saw her house burning and all of it came flooding back. “No…No! Mother!” She quickly stood up and ran closer to the house, but the flames were too intense. The three agents stood up as well, but stayed behind her.
Suddenly, a gust of wind, followed by the sound of beating wings, became unmistakably present. They all looked up as a demon came down and landed in front of Kitai. The flames blazed behind it. It gave a sickening grin, which sent shivers up their spines, but Kitai didn’t notice it or even care for that matter.
“Now you know,” spoke the demon. Jake, Tori, and Kaya were taken aback by its voice, none of them knowing that the demons could speak. “Now you know what it is like.”
“Shut up,” said Kitai. Her head was down, and it was easy to tell that she was crying. “Just shut up,” she repeated. “You’ve taken the one person I had left…my only family….” She looked up at the demon, which was easily twice as big as she was. “For this…I won’t let you leave here alive.” Her eyes were filled with tears, but behind them was nothing but anger. “You will pay!” She lunged at the demon, punching it square in the face. She then kicked it in the chest and spin kicked it in the side with her other leg, sending it skidding against the ground. It stopped a few meters away from where she was, and she began to walk towards it.
“How?” asked the demon. “Where does this power come from?” It got back up on its feet and charged at her, trying to use the claws on its hand to stab at her, but she dodged and jumped upward, only to land on its back, shoving the demon into the ground. She jumped off and landed a good distance away. She brought in her arms and held them near her chest, palms facing in. The familiar light began to gather in the middle of her hands.
The demon got back up and charged for her, but as it came within arms reach, she shoved her hands forward, releasing the energy she had gathered. The demon gave a loud and long shriek, but its voice soon died out. Eventually, the light faded. Not a trace of the demon was left.
Kitai put her arms back at her sides and turned to look at her house. The three agents couldn’t believe what had just happened. They all stood in silence for a while; the only sound was the crackling of the fire.
“Jake,” said Kitai, her voice more relaxed than it had been, but it still had that edge to it.
“Yes?” he asked quietly.
“I’d like to take you up on your offer.”
I’ve decided to add in sneak peaks of upcoming chapters. I think it will be fun. If you don’t like that idea then…just tell me and I’ll stop.
Next chapter: Kitai: Jake, Kaya, and Tori show up at my school to pick me up. This’ll be my first time seeing one of the DIA bases that I’ve heard so much about. I can already tell that things are going to be interesting here. I just wish Tori was a little less stiff. And no matter what he says, I’m not a kid!
