Eien ¤ Closer by the minute

I stood in the same position, still covering Raine from the fallen debris. I heard some sirens wailing not to far away from me. I was surprised that I even heard a siren in the distance. I thought I was going to die for sure. Well, there was still some hope in me.

I moved away slowly from Raine, looking to see if she was alright. Her eyes were still shut and she still had a strong grasp on me, and needless to say made me somewhat happy.

“Raine, it’s okay now…” I whispered and she peeked at me through one eye. She let out a deep sigh, “I don’t know who you are…” she looked up at me with a smile, her eyes filling up with tears, “but thank you so much” she said and her grasp seemed slightly tighter.

Our little moment was ruined when someone yelled out, “Are you guys okay?” and both Raine and I turned around, to see who had yelled. When the young man looked from me to Raine he let out a thrilling cry, “Oh my God! WE need cameras over here!” he yelled at someone from over his shoulders, “that’s Tsubasa Raine!” he yelled pointing at Raine. I moved away slowly and looked at Raine in question. She just gave me the same look as if she wasn’t sure what was going on either, but I decided to ask anyway. “Raine, what’s happening?” I asked noticing that the ambulances were being overrun by vans, people with suits and microphones walking rapidly up to us. “So Raine, what exactly happened?” a young woman pointed a microphone at Raine and she stood quiet. More people crowed around us asking us questions.

“Raine, how did this happen?”

“Raine, who’s this savior of yours?”

“Raine, what do you have to say to your savior?”

“Raine, did you know this man, before?”

“Raine, which do you prefer fruits or vegetables?”

“How do you feel about saving Ms. Tsubasa?” a man finally asked me. I didn’t know what to say, the people just stopped, everyone looking at me, it was so uncomfortable. “How am I supposed to feel? I’m just glad that she’s alright”.

“Well, now I’ll say that’s a real hero. Aren’t you lucky Raine?” a man winked at Raine and faced some sort of machine that was behind him, “and that’s it for the six ‘o’clock news! I’m Miji Yii, back to you Joi”.  He finished off with a little smile.

“We need to get out of here,” Raine said to me trying to regain balance, but failed to do so when she collapsed on me. For a brief moment, I had forgotten about Raine’s injury (that was on her right leg to be exact). “Can-can I get a doctor please? I need doctors! Not people with their meaningless questions” I shouted out over the crowd of people that still seemed to ask us both question ever so enthusiastically.

“So, what did you think when you saved her?” someone yelled out to me. Microphones were huddled together in front of both Raine and me. What was I suppose to say? She’s Raine…I was suppose to save her. I could let her … you know, just get hurt. I couldn’t imagine. Though she was hurt, I knew it could have been much worst. “No- I don’t want to answer questions. I want to see doctors”. I said to them kindly, I tried to keep calm. Tried. Minutes passed and Raines grasp on my clothes was getting tighter as if she put her entire weight on me, since she couldn’t keep her balance. I suddenly felt that spur of energy fill me up and I couldn’t help but scream, “I NEED TO SEE A DOCTOR! RAINE IS HURT AND IF YOU DON’T GET OUT OF MY WAY I WILL SEE TO IT THAT YOU SHALL GO TO HELL!”

Silence…

Even a cricket could be heard in the distance.

W-what just happened? What did I just say?! HOW COULD I SAY THAT? I… oh I silently prayed for Kami. I can’t believe this. When did I ever become so violent? When did I ever become so vulgar? I really felt so ashamed. I glanced quickly at Raine from the corner of my eyes, I didn’t want her think of me as some sinful creature, some … evil, vulgar human. However, by the look on her face, she didn’t see me any different, she didn’t give a disgusted look, she smiled and her arms was still around mine. That made me smile just a little. Maybe she finally remembered. Maybe now she’ll be able to remember…

Finally…

“We need a DOCTOR! HURRY, THE MAN ASKED FOR A GODDAMN DOCTOR! MOVE!” I heard one man scream out to the others form over his shoulders and suddenly as everyone appeared, they had begin to leave.  However, some young woman came up to me and pointed another small microphone my way, but was taken by some of the other reporters while she screamed and kicked them. Raine laughed lowly. She looked up at me and we didn’t say much. I just kept seeing her young face that didn’t change that much. It was still Raine with those calm olive green eyes; it was still that little girl that use to cry for me when I stepped out of the room for a little while. Secretly… I hoped it was still that Raine. But we were again interrupted by a siren wailing. Raine looked pass me onto the returning ambulance. The doors opened and some helpers came out and was beginning to put Raine inside the van and of course I wanted to come along. I wouldn’t let her leave… again. I was almost my way inside the van when a soft touch tapped me on arm. I looked around and I didn’t see anyone and I turned around again and felt a another tap, and this time I saw a small girl. That was covered with a long jacket. I couldn’t see her face that clearly but I knew it was a little girl by the tone of her voice. “You really are an angel, Eien”.

“…” I stood there looking down on the girl, “w-what did you say?”

“Eien!” I quickly turned around to see Maku on all fours casually walking up to me (actually I was surprised to see him, at the moment I was just thinking about Raine and what the child had said). “Maku there’s this girl--…” I turned around to show Maku the little girl, but… she was gone.  She left. I looked around the area to see if I can see her walking, but all I saw was police and ambulances.

“Eien, what were you thinking? You could’ve died!” Maku yelled.

“Shhh, not to loud”

“You’re human remember? Humans die easily. You can’t just waltz in the middle of the street!” Maku whispered harshly.

“I’m aware of that Maku, but I couldn’t just leave her there”

Maku gave a disgusted look, “I swear… I’ll never understand humans…”

I just sighed at Maku’s comment.

“Listen I got to go” I said and turned to the ambulance.

“Go? Where are you going?” Maku said annoyed.

“With Raine”

“What? Oh come on! Your got her gratitude, isn’t that enough?”

“No it’s not. Gratitude can not replace memories.” I said. Why can’t Maku understand? It wasn’t that hard to see. I guess he never cared for someone that much to understand.

I brushed the thought away and headed inside ambulance. Raine looked surprise as a couple of doctors seem to heal her leg and I winced when I saw the blood. “Wh-you’re coming?” she asked me. “Yeah, I can’t just abandon you like that. Not after such after the horrible accident.” I answered her and I looked at her leg that was being cleaned with a wet cloth”. I felt so bad, seeing that injury. It was a scratch, glass had been inside and I guess it took a while to take that out, so we must head to the hospital… and I would be with her all the way. Maku came inside and gave a disgusted look at Raine. “Aw, that’s you’re cute puppy?” she asked me with a smile on her face looking down on Maku, whom lifted an eyebrow, more in terror than everything else. “Um…yeah, I suppose” I said lowly and seated myself next to her.

I had a unusual feelings if someone was looking at me. I turned my head slowly and saw Raine staring at me, her eyes slightly narrowed with curiosity. “Why?”

“Excuse me?” I asked, uncertain of her question.

“Why… are you so nice?”

I blinked and I stood quiet. I didn’t know what to say, I couldn’t say anything. How was I going to respond? ‘Oh Raine, I am your guardian angel, but you don’t remember me, so I became human to help you regain your memory and I saw you in trouble so I had to protect you’ ? No, I tried that response already and it didn’t work out well.

“I, uh…” I stammered and saw Maku shake his small furry head, with a smirk on it. “You were in trouble and… I had to do something”

She looked down and back up, “How do you know my name?”

“Well,” I laughed lowly, “it seems that everyone knows your name”. It was true though, I save her and people just start screaming out her name, seems like she must be famous, and I chuckled once more at the thought.

“Yeah,” she laughed also, “I guess you’re right. I am one of the biggest reporters on Fuji T.V”

So she was a reporter? On …what? Fuji T.V? What was that? I dared not to ask her, since she thought that I watched her before, her assumptions would fail her if I dared to ask what she meant and I would be once again in the predicament.

“Since you know my name, what’s yours? I um, seemed to forgot it. Was it, Edward? Eddy? Um… Edmund? Elijah? Enrique?” Raine assumed.

“Enrique?” She was off, so very off. “It’s Eien,” I said, I told her that so many times…

“Oh, that’s right” she whispered looking down “sorry…”

A long pause went by. She was probably thinking about the first time she met me, and how I scared her when I appeared in front of her door, and I how I said my name was Eien… actually I probably was mostly likely to be thinking about that then she was.

“Listen…um, sorry about before”

I raised an eyebrow in question.

Raine continued, “About …calling you a stalker.”

“Oh it’s okay, I understand. I mean it’s not everyday that a human knocks on your door an shakes the life out of you and gets assaulted by you fiancé. That has better pants than me, and just because he gets to marry yo—…” I was getting carry away and started staring at the floor my hands clenched, I would have kept going if it wasn’t for Maku whom had bit my leg to keep me quiet, and I was actually grateful for that. I looked at Maku, whom side lowly and sat next to me and I looked at Raine whose eyes were wide while she rolled it, “Yeah it’s not everyday…”

We were near the hospital when Raine broke the silence, “How did you know that Seki was my fiancé?”

“I, uh, well, it couldn’t be anybody else except for your fiancé. I mean your brother, but what was the chance of that?” I laughed nervously. Apparently, I couldn’t mention that I visited her at her house and heard of the engagement to Seki.

“Yeah…” she said softly.

Suddenly the doctors informed us of our arrival at the hospital. They had a stretcher placed for Raine outside, but before Raine could reach it she had again depended on me for balance. Her hand was placed on my back and again I felt a sharp needle like pain. I even felt as if I would collapse, but held out and stood… for Raine. When she was safely put in the stretcher, she looked at her hands. “Eien?” she looked up at me.

“Yeah?”

“You’re back… I think you’re hurt” she raised her hands up and showed me bloodstained palms. She moved me so she can see my back, “Oh my…Kami” she whispered. I was about to scold her on how never to use Kami’s name in vain, but I decided to let that pass.

“What?” I asked and turned to Raine.

“You’re bleeding, badly” she turned to the doctor that was next to her fastening her to the bed, “you got to take this man to one of the rooms. He’s badly hurt.”

The doctor had seen and brought me in a chair that had wheels. I was brought in the same room as Raine since the doctors had mention this was the only room left.

I was seated on top of the bed, Maku in one of the chairs (the doctors had let him stay since their was nobody to watch him).

“Eien, was it? I noticed that it could have been a large piece of glass stuck. We need to take that out as soon as possible, before you faint due to the lack of blood,” a doctor said to me, “if you can just remove your shirt we may begin the quick process.

“Okay…” I said and stood looking at the doctor, finally I just decided to take my shirt off, though I had no idea how… I put my hands inside the sleeves and tried to pull the shirt out, but my head and arms were stuck, somehow. Then I tried to remove the shirt by releasing my head, but at the end my arms were in the air locked by the shirt and my hair was pulled back, it seemed as if the shirt had gotten much smaller… or my head got much bigger… hmmm… I finally looked to the left of me and I saw Raine with her wide eyes open looking at me and I gave her a nervous smile and waved my hands at her…that were already placed up in the air.

“Uh, Eien, I think it’s better if we’ll put the divider” the doctor pulled a screen around the room, so both Raine and I would be separated. “We don’t need the other patient to see… anything.” He said, “Now, some doctors will be here shortly to begin the process. Just wait ‘till I assemble them” and with those words the doctor left.

Maku hopped onto the bed, “See? What did I tell you? You got hurt because of that woman,” Maku whispered.

“It’s Raine” I corrected.

“Whatever…” Maku said rolling his blue eyes, “you still got hurt due to saving her

“And I would save her a thousand more times” I declared.

Maku just looked at me, with an emotionless expression on his face. Just like before, before we both came into this mess…

The doctor had come back with several doctors around and had requested me to lie on my stomach, while they had mentioned to me how “delicate” this procedure was, but as soon as I had lie down, I felt a cold metal like structure on my wound that made me gasp and I tried to hold the pain. How could humans live with this sort of pain? I looked at Maku through squinted eyes (due to the pain) and saw his face in disgust and horror. I held my energy, I held from screaming… it seemed as if that was going to help, even though I knew it would not. Maybe that’s why humans always shouted at each other. Maybe that’s why violence becomes an everyday ritual, so to speak. Suddenly I heard a loud scream from the other end of the divider and out of instinct; I was trying to get up, away from the doctors and to Raine. I couldn’t hear her scream like that, it was out of instinct that made me want to rush to her. If the doctors were helping her, why did she seem so much in pain?

The doctors restricted me from going over and calmed me down with a long needle, they injected some clear fluid into my right arm and… and I suddenly felt calm. I was okay, I was calm, I didn’t hear anybody, not the doctors and not Raine, and for the first time I was glad, I didn’t want to hear her scream in pain.

I looked up and saw Raine’s beautiful smiling face peering down at me. “Ei-ei” she whispered. I looked up at her, my eyes wide and I immediately jump up and grabbed her hands in excitement. “Y-you remember? You remember me?” I asked. “Of course I do. How could I forget you…?” She sat next to me on the bed. I looked at the floor in shock and back at Raine, “When did this happen?” I asked. “I always knew… I was trying to deny it” she said. She lifted her hands up, moved my shoulders, and lightly touched the pad that was on my wound. “I’m sorry that happened,” she said softly. “Don’t be… I’m just glad you’re okay”. Raine stood quiet, “Why are you so nice? You were always nice just as I remembered you…”

“I—…” I stammered.

“Ei-ei?”

“Yeah, Ra-ii?”

“Why did you leave me?” she asked, sadness filled her eyes.

“Leave you? I didn’t want to leave you, but I couldn’t stay with you… you had to be on your own” I said hoping that she would understand.

“I see…”

That’s all she said! She understood and she remembered and… I was so happy, my heart was so…relieved. “Oh Eien…” she said and she rested her hand on my shoulder and I rested my head on her shoulder.

“Promise me…”

“Promise you what?” Raine asked uncertain.

“Promise me you won’t marry Seki,” I said, certainly she would listen to me… her guardian angel. I knew what was best.

“I can’t promise that” she said plainly.

“What? Why not?” I pushed away from her.

“I love him…” she said and my heart stopped.

“Eien?” she saw my shocked expression.

“Y-you love him?” I asked.

“Yes I do. See Eien, he didn’t leave me when I needed him the most. He didn’t abandon me when I was in trouble…unlike you” Raine said and stood up, “that’s why I’m marrying him. He’s exactly the opposite of you!”

“…”

“That’s why I hate you! That’s why I denied remembering you and what you done to me!”

“No…”

“That’s why it’s Seki whom I’m marrying…and not you

“…What?…”

“I told you… but you never listened to me” I turned to the direction of the voice. I saw the furry little Maku pointing one of his paws at me, “maybe if you listened to me, this would have never happened!”

“Stop…” I whispered. It seemed as if Maku was attacking me…with the truth. Raine I didn’t think… she would do that to me, say all those things, she doesn’t know how much I didn’t want to leave, but it wasn’t my call.

“It would have been much better if you would have never came into my life!” Raine yelled.

“She’s right! And if you never did then you wouldn’t have waste my damn time trying to stitch you up!” I saw the doctor suddenly next to Raine and I just heard all of them screaming at me.

“Would you …just--…”

“…STOP IT!” I yelled out and I …opened my eyes again. I looked forward to see Raine next to me, sitting down on the chair. I looked at her weirdly. I stood up and I felt a sharp pain again in my back. I looked around the room and all I saw was Raine and Maku.

“Are you okay? You just had a bad dream… that’s all,” Raine said to me quietly.

“Dream?”

“Yeah, you were restless during the procedure and I think they gave you a shot to put you to sleep.”

“Sleep?” I asked again.

“Yeah… Listen Eien, you okay?”

I laughed out, “It was just a dream?! Ha, I was sleeping and I was dreaming!” I clasp Raine’s thin hand, “It was a dream!”

“Yeah, it was…um okay this is the part where I think you’re crazy…again” she said with a nervous smile and snatched her hand away. “Do you hate me?” I asked.

“What? No, I don’t hate you…I think you’re kinda’ crazy, but I don’t think that should be a reason to hate you” she said.

“So, you don’t…remember me?”

“No… you keep saying that. Listen I’m real sorry, but--…” I suddenly cut Raine off, “Yes!” I jumped up and quickly sat back on the bed because I felt another sharp pain dwell in my back. She doesn’t remember me! Ha! … wait. Something’s wrong, why am I so happy that she doesn’t remember me? I sighed to myself. I was just so happy that she doesn’t remember what I did to her… I left her. I kept thinking about the dream, what did it mean? Obviously, I knew that I didn’t want Raine to get married, but…all that other stuff?

“Rest some more…” Raine said, waking me from my daydream.

“Huh?” I turned around to her, “oh, no I’m fine now. How about you? Your leg…?”

“Oh, heh… I guess it would take time to heal. It hurts me more than before, I guess because the doctors irritated the skin…” she saw me look at her leg that was wrapped in a cast, “heh… I guess you really didn’t need to know that” she said and turned away in embarrassment.

“No… I mean I did ask you.”

Raine just started staring at me and surprisingly I became very uncomfortable. “Uh, Maku?” I turned to the furry teddy bear and grabbed him and he growled quietly at me, loud enough for me to hear him though. I started petting him (though Maku was trying to bite me every now and then) trying to distract myself away from the staring Raine.

“Aw, is that his name?” Raine finally asked.

“Yeah, yeah it is,” I said nervously.

“What a cute name” she said and she stretched her hand to pet Maku, but Maku was swerving around not letting her touch him. “I guess he doesn’t like me” she responded and gave up petting him.

“Oh no, its just that he hasn’t been around huma--…people… very much” I said quickly, trying to cover up the mistake I made.

“Ah I see…” she said.

We just stood there looking at each other for a long while, until---

“Raine honey! Aw, I’m so sorry. What happened?” a voice boomed.

Both Raine and I looked to see… that… evil… man… that… devil…of… a…man.

“Seki!” Raine said and stretched her arms out still sitting in the chair next to me. I must’ve been petting Maku’s head very hard (out of anger of course) because Maku gave a small cry of pain and I gave Maku and apologetic look.

“Hun, there’s someone that I want you to meet” she then touched my shoulders, “Eien”

Seki gave me a nasty look on his face. He then adjusted his eyes on Raine’s hand that was on my shoulder. “Do you always meet other men’s fiancée with your shirt off?” he said deeply his light brown eyes staring coldly at me. “It depends on whose fiancée it happens to be,” I said to him coldly as well. I probably said something very good because Maku gave me a secret pat on my back with approval.

Raine felt the tension between both Seki and me and attempted to regain balance and stand up, but once again she failed and Seki helped her and I disliked him even more for doing so. I wanted to help her. “Hun, what happened?” he asked her, his voiced softened, but I still knew he was the devil in disguise.

“I was trying to tell you” Raine replied while sitting down again, “I got…into some accident. I was walking in the middle of the street when my ankle was sprain and suddenly a car didn’t see me…and I was rescued” Raine turned to me, “By Eien and not only once. After that, the car had interfered with some construction and entire downtown has to be rebuild due to the fallen debris. All this happened and Eien got me out all right, he even hurt himself during the process.” She said with small smile. I looked at Seki whom just stared at the floor. Then he looked up, and stretched out his hand, “Thanks man, so much. If it wasn’t for you… I wouldn’t have my baby here with me now”. I shook his hand… because it was the right thing to do, even though I really didn’t want to. “Yeah…” I said and decided to put my shirt back on, though I was careful not to make any mistakes in front of…him, and thank Kami that I didn’t.

“Well hun, let’s go. I’m gonna stay home with you and you just can stay in bed and watch me slave over you” he slightly kiss her on the lips and I clenched my teeth, trying not to let my anger out. Trying.

She let out a small laugh, “Ooh, I can’t wait.” Seki then grabbed her hand, pulled it around his arm, and let Raine rest on his shoulders. He was beginning to walk away, but Raine stopped him from going any farther. “Seki?”

“Yeah, babe?”

“Um…” she then whispered into Seki’s ear and he let a “What? NO!”

“Seki… I got to repay him”

Seki then let out a sigh, “Whatever…”

“Eien? Would you like to stay for dinner? At our house?” she asked smiling.

I blinked. “Really?” I asked excited, much like a small child. I can’t believe it at least she’s asking me to stay, even if it’s just for dinner… a great deal could happen at dinner.

“Yeah, even Maku is welcomed”

“Maku?” I heard Seki question Raine.

I smiled, “Yeah that would be… great”

“Good… so let’s go” she said.

I got up and let Maku walk beside me. Now I would never have thought I would be invited to Raine’s house… then again I would have never thought that Raine was getting married, but since I’m being invited to Raine’s house and Seki will be their… who knows what could happen… heh…

Author’s note: Well??? This chapter was to show you the relationship between Eien and Raine now AND Eien and Seki. If you guys have any questions please ask, I’ll be more than glad to answer, but I won’t answer questions which the answer is a spoiler. So thank you again to the reviewers~ Luv all you guys~
