Chapter 1
She turned around and stared back at the field of death she had just left behind her. "Are you at least happy with me?" she asked in a whisper to the air as she walked the opposite way into the forest…another road in Elyllis.
She had barely gotten three-quarters into the forest. Looking around at the surroundings, she felt uncertain. She knew someone was watching her. Her green eyes shifted from left to right, the yellow sunburst in the center trying not to take over her eyes.
She finally knew where they were coming from. As a man in thin black clothing jumped up from behind her, coming down on her with a "common sword" or so it's called in the island of Elyllis, she turned in less then a second and drew her infamous "thin sword".
As the two swords clashed, she said in a tone with a growl hidden in it, "Do you dare throw your damn life away?"
He just smirked at her and replied, "Of course. This common sword should be too thick for your thin one. I shall be the first to defeat the famous assassin Kazure."
Kazure gave him a strange look. "You think like that and you'll never live to see another day. And I'd like to call this a Japanese sword, thank you very MUCH!" She stated and threw her force into the next attack, sending the man flying into a tree. Her long brown hair tied up in a ponytail, and normally blood coated, caught the wind as her force grew strong and she prepared for her next attack.
The man could barely move after the impact from the last attack that had been thrown at him. He didn't want to be defeated by anyone, but he knew that this challenge…was his last.
Kazure raised her sword as the golden sunburst in her eyes took over the green and turned to red. And she said in a monotone voice, "You will die now." And with that she charged at the tree that he was on and sliced through it.
As most of the tree and half the man came crashing to the ground, Kazure re-sheathed her sword and turned to walk away.
She was the infamous assassin Kazure. Known far across the plains of Elyllis. She refused to accept the fact that the world had started over and refused to call their weapons by their new names. She was young, yet ancient at the same time.
Yet she wasn't the ONLY one in Elyllis to be afraid of…
Kazure came right into the center of the forest. She looked around her, trying to see around the area. 'She's late…typical for her.' Kazure thought as she pulled out another weapon from the small sack kept on her back. It was a bow-and-arrow, and she wasn't the best at use with it, but she was good. As she took an arrow out and lined it up with the bow, she shot it at a tree with a red ribbon on it. The same kind of ribbon that tied up her hair. Just to let that certain person know she was there.
As Kazure set her bow-and-arrow down next to a rock and sat down on the rock, she decided to think about how much she had changed. Changed since she was small, changed since she first learned swordsman and archery skills, changed since her master died…
She stared down at her black pants, which outlined her legs and sprawled out at the bottom. Then the killer heard a familiar sound…the sound of giant wolf paws.
And sure enough, as she looked up, she saw the giant wolf, Mara, turn the corner with her master on her back. Mara was at least 6 feet tall, had black fur, and spine-chilling burgundy eyes that glowed at night.
However, even though Mara was frightening to the forest passengers, it was her master that was feared among them. She jumped down from her wolf, her black cloak almost a camouflage to her animal company.
Kazure stood up, "I thought you weren't going to show up, Saurieon."
Saurieon folded her hood down and smirked evilly. As she folded it down, shoulder-length light red hair fell out of it and she looked up at her fellow assassin with chocolate eyes, and her pale skin was just as Kazure had last seen her.
"So Kazure, you're still the same, just like I am. Not many differences from the last few weeks."
"None but a few, just the amount of lives taken by me. Other then that, I'm no different."
"Right down to that dark blue shirt with the drooping three-quarter sleeves." Saurieon smiled again as she continued their little speech that they had been saying for ages.
Kazure looked around, "Where's your calming companion?"
Saurieon blinked at Kazure and then got a slightly angry face. "He's NOT a calming companion." She growled.
"But he can make you stop thinking about killing. Even though he's been with you all of your life. Yet he's still as young as ever. That dog…"
"Bakuri has had life extensions, remember."
"I know." Kazure said in a soft voice. Then, looking up again, she smirked evilly and said, "But nothing can completely calm my fury."
"So you say."
The yellow sunburst in Kazure's eye began to flicker as she turned sideways, facing a tree, unsheathed her sword, and smacked at the air with it. It flew into the tree and split it in half.
"I don't say, I know." She said as she re-sheathed her sword.
Saurieon sighed again, "Whatever you say. AND, Bakuri is trying to find my sword."
"Why? You never use it."
"I do sometimes."
"Like when?"
"Like when my bow and arrow aren't available at the time. Just like you use your bow and arrow when your sword cannot be used."
Kazure tightened up a little.
"I see."
Just as the words left Kazure's mouth, a sound of paws running could be heard. And for sure, coming around the corner, was a dog with fur just like Saurieon's hair and eyes just like hers. You could definitely tell it was her dog. And indeed, he was carrying her sword.
Saurieon smiled at her dog and took the sword from him. "Arigatou, Bakuri." She said, patting her dog on the head. "You may sit down my Mara."
Bakuri blinked and gave the equivalent of a smile to his master as he gracefully walked over to Mara and lay down beside the enormous wolf.
Saurieon turned her attention back to Kazure and un-sheathed her sword.
"So you've come to practice, Saurieon?" Kazure said, unsheathing he sword as well.
"Of course, I need practice from you every time I get the chance."
Kazure smirked, "All right, but don't make me angry or I might accidentally kill you."
Saurieon nodded, "And that's the absolute truth."
Kazure threw a hard attack at the ground that shot up to where Saurieon was. She dodged it gracefully. She had removed her cloak completely now and was fighting in a, apple green shirt that outlined her figure and her arms. She also had on forest-green pants that did the same.
Saurieon came down from her jump and clashed thin sword to thin sword with Kazure.
'She has gotten a lot better,' Kazure thought. However, her sunburst flickered once again as she thought, 'but at sword fighting, she still can't beat me.'
Kazure turned her sword around and shot it forward while spinning it, letting out a large shout of power and sending Saurieon sprawling into the air and smashing into the ground.
Kazure sighed and re-sheathed her sword, "That's been out longest match. But you still can't defeat me."
Saurieon sat up slowly, groaning a bit.
When she could finally speak without moaning she opened one eye and said, "But I can still defeat you at archery."
Kazure helped her companion up. "We will practice that next time."
Saurieon nodded. "Two days? I'll meet you right here again."
"Yes. Two days."
Saurieon smiled, pulled on her cloak again, and mounted Mara. She motioned for Bakuri to move on ahead and then she turned to Kazure and smiled.
"Good luck my friend."
And with that, she rode away.
Kazure had stood in the murky woods are awhile after that. In a little, she traveled right and came out to a small site reflected by the moonlight. But the moon shone on one particular grave stone. Purposely just because SHE was there.
"I chose this path. This path may not be the right one, but now I cannot escape it." She said to the grave.
"I'm sorry master."
A/N: Well, what do you think? I hope I didn't fail at giving the story that creepy feeling. Also, there will be a lot more coming up and both Saurieon and Kazure's pasts will soon become unfolded. ALSO, in the next chapter, a new and important character is introduced. Plz review! Arigatou ja ne! (BTW, could any of you guys picture the characters? I hope you can.)
