No I've never seen the sun set over Paris
Nor a twilighty drifting through a Venice canal
But I've counted stars without city clouds in the middle of nowhere
So I'm a pretty content poor girl after all
Oriental silk has never touched this brown skin
And white's too unpractical for the life I lead
But I've danced wearing nothing but moonlight in the middle of nowhere
And dressed and returned home to all I need
Sometimes it's too much and I just want to run
to everywhere and nowhere, so long as it's not here
But I can never never leave behind my home
I couldn't wander around exotaties all alone
Happiness is the middle of nowhere where I find great golden suns… and you
The only foreign food I eat is French toast
And you know that's only on special Sundays
But I've ran through little wolf creeks barefoot in the middle of nowhere
To make an appetite for a picnic outside on midday
Sometimes it's too much and I just want to run
to everywhere and nowhere, so long as it's not here
But I can never never leave behind my home
I couldn't wander around exotaties all alone
Happiness is the middle of nowhere where I find great golden suns… and you
How miserable I was down in the city
With blue too high in the sky instead of around me
Gray stared back wherever I glance
All the mazes of chain-wire fence
Surrounded by thousands and still so lonely - lonely, lonely, lonely, yeah!…
And cryin' myself to sleep seemed so natural!
With the boring places and indifferent faces
And the same old lies perpetual!
Oh no no no no no no no no no!
A poor old girl don't belong in the city
A sensitive soul don't belong in the city
Free birds don't belong in the city
I only belong with you…
Oh oh, I only belong with you
And some girls are to bed with every guy around
The ones with translucent shirts and long legs to flaunt
I've only been loved by one man in the middle of nowhere
And my darling, you're really all I want
Sometimes it's too much and I just want to run
to everywhere and nowhere, so long as it's not here
But I can never never leave behind my home
I couldn't wander around exotaties all alone
Happiness is the middle of nowhere where I find great golden suns… and you
And in the middle of nowhere with you,
I'm a pretty content poor girl after all
