Ever wonder what it would be like to imitate yourself? What if you could? Would you like it, hate it, or just not be able to explain anything that's going on?
*****
A low hum is heard from the light fixture above Jim's head as he waits for the line of busy people to move and get to work as fast as possible. The locals are pushing their way through everyone trying to make it down into the subway before the train even arrives.
Jim sighs heavily as he's hurried along with everyone and pushed along the crowd of people like he was a rag doll. He looks around him wondering when his train arrives and decides to read his magazine until then. He stands there and sets his briefcase down beside him as he pulls the magazine out of his back pocket and opens it up, flipping through pages and reading a bit of the sections.
Lots of talking people are surrounding him and crowding together as if the world was going to end. He looses his spot on the article in his magazine then sighs and starts all over, slowly skimming over what he has read and trying to find his spot he was at.
He smiles at himself, now finding his original spot and reading on as the people hustle to find what they're looking for and sipping their coffee which could easily be spilt among the others if someone pushed too hard. Jim easily ignores the others now getting involved in his article hearing the announcement of the train coming in, in about 13 to 15 minutes.
Jim nods to himself and closes the magazine then places it in his back pocket and dusts off his suit lightly. He lifts up his left arm to get his sleeve down some and looks at his watch seeing it's 30 minutes past what where he should be. Sighing again, he lowers his arm and looks around at everyone trying to see if he could find any familiar faces.
Stepping back quickly and bumping into an unfamiliar face, Jim tries to think of it as a figure of his imagination and quickly apologizes to the sir. He lifts his hand to his head and starts thinking. "Could that have been who I think it was...?" he asked himself and decided to take another look.
He blinks and ducks down into the crowd now knowing for sure who it was and not wanting to believe it. He shakes his head trying to clear his mind and think it was a dirty trick played by someone. But waitaminute, no one here knows him. Taking deep, slow breaths, he thinks of someway to get this right.
Train brakes are heard and everyone looks up as the train slowly stops and opens it's metal doors. Seeing this chance, Jim runs through to the other side of the subway and watches the crowds of people flood the train and the doors close behind them. He looks around and hides behind a trashcan hopefully wanting to prankster to disappear.
The metal wheels screech and the train begins it's way on down the tracks into the tunnel. Jim waits and listens until he doesn't hear the train anymore as he slowly peeks out from behind the trash can.
Gasping in awe, he sees the same person doing the same thing across from him. "No way there can be two of me!!!" he kept thinking. He slowly steps out and watches the double do the same. As he stands there he crosses his arms to think and sees the double do the exact same at the exact time.
As he thinks he begins walking along the concrete of the subway noticing the double doing the same and quickly stops to see if he does too. He does. Jim stares at him blankly and starts skipping across the concrete and sees his double do the same.
Jim grabs his head in frustration seeing the double copy him still doing everything the same at the same time. He feels like he should scream at himself but stops quickly not wanting to hear his voice being yelled back at him. He stands up straight and dusts off his suit.
He takes a seat on the wooden bench behind him watching his double do the same, of course. He rests his chin in his right palm as he sets his right elbow on his knee and tries to think of a logical explanation.
As he sits there, he doesn't move much and looks at the ground instead of at his double. He quickly stands up knowing his double will and walks over to the edge of the subway. Jim watches his double closely then crouches down and blinks as his double just stands there then jumps down into the subway tracks as he looks up he still sees his double standing at the edge.
Delighted at proving his theory, he laughs out loud as the double stares at him blankly. Jim starts dancing around on the tracks not giving a care in the world about where he is and points to the double as he laughs again. The double stands there silently and watches him.
Lost in his victory, Jim quickly realizes that he's on the tracks of the subway and looks behind him as he sees the train dead on. The train passes through with ease as the double still stands there and slowly begins to fade away as an evil laughter is echoed throughout the station. When the train passes through, there is nothing left of poor Jim...
