Hiya! I’m back! I have been inspired to write another story! Hope you guys like it!
Jade is a 14-year-old girl. She has long brown hair and green eyes. Jade is always being teased in school and has few friends. Jade’s mother committed suicide when Jade was 5 years old. Her father couldn’t deal with the loss and became an alcoholic. He blames Jade for his wife’s death and takes his anger out on Jade by beating her. Jade’s mother left her a music box to listen too. Jade plays it when she feels alone and depressed. It’s the only thing that keeps her alive. The music box is sorta like a snow globe. Inside the glass are two angels- a mother and a daughter.
“Get back here bitch!”
She turned her head to see her drunken father close behind her.
‘Fuck fuck fuck!’
Jade made a sharp turn and ran into her room. She locked the door and slide down to the floor crying. Her father started banging on the door.
“Come on out! I won’t hurt you!”
Her father let out a cruel laugh that sent chills down Jade’s spine. She hugged herself and put her back against the door. Jade closed her eyes and cried herself to sleep. A few hours later she woke up.
“Huh? I must have feel asleep.”
Jade cautiously opened the door. Her father was passed out on the floor. She walked into the bathroom, changed her clothes and brushed her teeth. Jade looked in the mirror and rubbed her cheek. She winced in pain.
“Aww man that hurts. It makes me look so much uglier than I already am.”
Jade sighed and walked off to bed.
The next day she woke up for school. Jade put on some music while she got ready.
“Turn that shit off!”
“Yes sir.”
Jade growled at turned off her music.
‘Stupid bastard.’
“Where the fuck do you think you’re going?”
“Ugh dad I’m 14. I have to go to school.”
“I’m not finished with you!”
Jade moved her head away from his face. His breathed reeked of alcohol.
‘What did he drink all damn night?’
She looked in his bloodshot eyes.
‘Mom…….why did you leave me?’
Her father stumbled back a bit.
“Dad I really have to go.”
Jade ran down the stairs and grabbed her backpack.
“Time for another day in Hell.”
Jade was in front of the school when a guy came over to her right side.
“Hey hot stuff.”
“Get lost!”
“Can I walk with you?”
“Just leave me alone.”
Another guy walked over to her left side.
“Hey baby.”
“Fuck off!”
“Aww I don’t think she likes us!”
Jade pushed them away and walked into the school. Two people were making out in front of her locker.
“Could you move please?”
“Aww Jim I think she wants us to move.”
“I didn’t know you understood freak talk.”
They both laughed and moved out of the way.
‘Stupid fucks.’
She got her books and walked into homeroom. Jade sat in a chair in the back. She took out her notebook and began to write.
‘I lie here
Beaten and broken
It’s all so clear
Death is my token’
Jade’s friend Jackie walked over and sat down.
“Hey hun.”
“…….hi.”
“What are you writing?”
“Just a poem.”
“Oh ok. I’m going to talk to Hannah. I’ll save you a seat at lunch.”
“Ok.”
“Hey Jackie.”
“Huh? Oh hi. Uh sorry I forgot to save you a seat.”
“Oh that’s ok…….”
Jade was starting to walk away from the table when she heard ‘nice excuse’. Jade shook her head and sat alone at a table.
“I thought she was supposed to be my friend.”
“Why is everyone so mean to me? What the fuck did I do to them? Jackie and I have been friends since we were 2 fucking years old! And now because she’s friends with all the popular people all those years mean nothing!”
Jade punched her pillow and cried some more. She stopped her music box and walked into the bathroom. She picked up a razor and pressed it against her wrist. She slid it to the left and then to the right.
“I feel much better.”
Jade put the razor down and cleaned her cut. She ran her finger over the pink scars from other cuts. She walked downstairs and saw the answering machine blink.
“I wonder who this is from.”
Jade pressed the button and listened to the message.
“Hello Jade. It’s Donna, Jackie’s mom. I just wanted to tell you that Jackie is having a party on Friday. It’s a sleep over. I already talked to your father and you can go. See you then.”
Jade smiled. She had something to keep her going through the week.
‘I just have to survive 4 more school days and then I’ll have fun.’
“I’m finally going somewhere! It’s been so long since I’ve been to Jackie’s house. I almost forgot what it looks like.”
Jade finished packing and walked outside. She smiled to herself as she walked to Jackie’s house.
‘Maybe she’ll hang out with me again after this.’
Jade reached her house and rang the doorbell. Jackie answered the door.
“Hey Jade!”
“Hi.”
Jade handed Jackie her card. Jackie smiled and led Jade into the family room. Jade looked at all the people there. She started feeling uncomfortable.
‘Oh God! Like every single popular girl is here! At least I’m friends with 3 people here.’
Everyone looked at Jade and went back to their conversation.
“Jackie you’ll never believe this!”
“What? What!?”
“Greg likes you!”
“Oh my God! You’re lying!”
“No way! He really does! And he said he’s going to ask you out!”
Jade listened to everyone talk. She set up her sleeping bag and looked at her backpack.
“Um…….I think I’m going to change since everyone else is in their pajamas.”
“Ok you know where the bathroom is right?”
Jade nodded and walked out of the room.
“So Jackie, why did you invite her?”
Jade stopped walking and listened to what they were saying.
“I told you guys my mom invited her.”
“Why?”
“She thinks we’re still friends.”
“Ohh I see.”
“Yeah I really hate her though. She’s such a freak and she’s so ugly.”
Jade’s eyes filled with tears as she listened to people that were supposed to be her friends agree.
“Her dad beats her and shit and I heard her mom committed suicide because of something Jade did.”
“That’s what I heard. Do you know what happened Jackie?”
“No, but I do know that Jade cuts herself.”
“Good! I hope she hits a vein one day. It’s so painful to look at her.”
Jade ran down the hallway into the bathroom. She couldn’t listen anymore. She looked into the mirror at her tear-streaked face.
‘Am I really that ugly?’
Jade got a tissue and wiped her tears. She changed into her pjs and walked into the family room.
“Um…….I’m not feeling to well. I think I’m going to go to sleep.”
“Dad? Dad!?”
She couldn’t find him anywhere.
‘Must have gone out drinking.’
Jade sat at the computer desk and started writing. Hours passed and Jade didn’t notice her father come into the house. She heard someone in the kitchen.
“Dad?”
Jade got up and peaked around the doorway.
“Hello? I wonder where he is…….”
“Right here.”
Jade saw a shadow fall over her and turned around to see her father with a knife in his hand. He grabbed her arm before she could turn to run.
“You’re not going anywhere.”
“Dad let go you’re hurting me!”
“Good! I’m going to kill you the way you’re mother killed herself!”
Jade screamed in pain as her father cut her flesh with the knife. She kicked him and grabbed her bleeding arm.
“You dirty whore! You’ll pay for that!”
Jade ran upstairs and into her room. She closed the door and hide in her closet.
‘Oh shit! I forgot to lock the door!’
She was about to get up when she heard the door open.
“I know you’re here.”
Jade closed her eyes tight and started to shake.
‘Please go away…….please make him go away!’
“Come out bitch!”
‘Does he know I’m in here?’
“Come the fuck out! NOW!”
Jade clutched her arm and prayed he didn’t find her.
“Grr!”
Her father picked up the music box and threw on the ground. Jade opened her eyes and covered her mouth as she realized what had broke.
“You lucked out bitch.”
Her father left the room. She heard the front door slam shut and she sprung to her feet.
“Oh no! Please no!”
She opened the closet door and saw the angels on the floor broken. Jade started to sob uncontrollably.
“NO!”
Jade fell to her knees.
“Mom…….I’m so sorry…….”
She closed her eyes and remembered the day her mother killed herself.
Jade was only 5 at the time. She was in the kitchen with her mother and her father.
“Momma?”
“What is it sweetie?”
“I want some ice-cream.”
“Wait until after dinner ok?”
“Aww ok mommy.”
Her father walked over to the freezer.
“Let her have some ice-cream now.”
“No! She has to wait until after dinner!”
“That’s like another hour!”
“So what! She doesn’t need it right now! I don’t want her to be spoiled!”
“She’s not going to be spoiled like you!”
“Oh I’m spoiled! You’re such a bastard!”
Jade had left the room and was sitting on the stairs crying. Her parents were fighting again.
‘It’s my fault they’re fighting!’
Jade watched her father slam the front door.
“Good! STAY THE FUCK OUT!”
Jade walked in the kitchen and saw her mother crying.
“Mommy?”
“Go away.”
“But mommy!”
“GO TO BED JADE!”
Jade looked at the floor and walked to the doorway. She whispered ‘I’m sorry’ and walked to her room.
“Daddy’s gone and mommy hates me!”
Jade cried herself to sleep.
Jade’s mother picked herself off the floor and walked into her room. She picked up her music box and looked at it.
“Jade’s always playing with this.”
Her mother walked into Jade’s room and placed it her dresser. She looked at her daughter.
‘You’re so precious. I wish I didn’t have to leave you.’
Her mother bent down and kissed Jade on the cheek. Tears rolled down her cheek as she moved some of Jade’s hair from her face.
“I love you with all my heart and I want you to know this wasn’t your fault. I’m sorry I’m leaving you like this. Never forget how much I love you. I gave you my music box…….I want you to listen to it when you feel alone or sad. As long as you have this you’re not allowed to give up.”
Her mother walked to the doorway and barely choked her goodbye.
Jade woke up the next morning and thought that what she heard was all a dream last night. She climbed out of bed and saw the music box on her dresser.
“Momma?”
She ran into the hallway and saw her father crying. Jade knew that she didn’t dream that kiss or those words.
Jade was crying hysterically.
“It was all my fault wasn’t it. I was the one that made them start fighting.”
Jade put her head down and whispered.
“It’s all my fault.”
She looked at the angels.
“The only thing I had left to remember my mother and it’s gone. No one loves me and no one cares for me. I can’t live anymore.”
Jade picked up a piece of broken glass.
“Dad’s right when he says I’m a worthless fuck and he’s right about it being my fault. And everything everyone says about me is true. I’m ugly and I’m worthless.”
She took the glass and sliced a vein. Jade fell to the floor. All her painful memories of being made fun of and her father beating her flooded her memory. She pictured her mother dying just like this.
“I’m sorry mom…….I’m sorry for being born…….”
Jade had one last memory of her mother holding her when she was little. She smiled as her eyes rolled in the back of her head.
