I overheard someone today
She was talking about her
mothers death
She said that now there was
only one person in the world
who loved her unconditionally
I never did hear who that
person was
I was suddenly struck
by the fact that I never before
considered that mothers
are supposed to love their
children like that
Unconditionally
Unconditionally
Unconditionally
Listen to the word
What a remarkable word
Unconditionally
Unconditionally
UNCONDITIONALLY
Then I realized that I've
never felt loved
I don't know how that feels
Unconditional love
or any other kind
never felt loved
never felt accepted
always on edge
always waiting for the hurt
always waiting to see
what I'd done wrong
Unconditionally
Unconditionally
UNCONDITIONALLY
Would knowing why help me now?
Probably not
It doesn't matter why, really
You were unhappy, so you
made me unhappy
You didn't like yourself
so you didn't like me
so I didn't like me
Would knowing why help me now?
Probably not
Even if you were to accept
But, no, that would never happen
you'd blame me
It would be my fault
that you didn't love me
Unconditionally
