Unicorn Soul

by Draconic Spirit

Prologue

The buildings towered high above the streets. A rare pocket of green broke the monotony of stone gray exteriors. This rare sight was simply known as Gateway Park. The meaning of this park had long since faded into history, though remnants of a past time stood silently waiting to be discovered.

Hidden deep within the park, shrouded by trees and bushes, stood an archway. It was overgrown with vines chipping away at the stone and wood. There was no evidence the archway was ever attached to anything other than the ground. No one even knew of its existence anymore. For more than a century the archway lay there dormant.

A bright light flared to life inside the archway. A spot high in the archway brightened further. The point of something pressed through the barrier of light. As more came through, it was revealed as a shimmering iridescent horn.

The horn was followed by a pure white equine head topped by a think mane of shimmering blue. The head and neck were followed by dainty cloven hooves. A tail flicked whip-like behind the hindquarters.

The beast raised her head, ears swiveling. The nostrils flared as she cautiously sniffed the air. She gave a dainty snort and turned to look at the archway she had just passed through. She shook her head solemnly and looked to the sky. The moon sat high in the sky, illuminating the tiny glade. The beast turned toward the road and took off at a quick gallop into the wilderness beyond the town.
