He peered out of his dusty window and observed the campus of this beautiful school. Right outside of the building was a small rising road leading to the school cafeteria, which was enormous. Inside the school cafeteria, thousands upon thousands of people could be fit and still have enough room to eat. Or at least that's what they claimed. He secretly didn't believe this to be true and he moved his line of vision to the right of the cafeteria. There stood the school library, in all its glory. It was made of brick, like the cafeteria, although the library was not nearly as large. It was about the same height, but the library was not a very wide building, or at least not very wide in relation to the cafeteria. While pondering all of this, a knock was suddenly heard on his door. He quickly opened the door and a tan skinned boy of about the same size as Edgar walked in. His hair was a black mess and his sunglasses reflected the light of the room. He was wearing black jeans, and a fiery red dragon shirt, contrary to Edgar's cargo shorts and baseball T-shirt.
"The name is Will," said the boy with the sunglasses. "I believe we are roommates."
"Yes," said the other, shaking Will's hand. "Pleased to meet you. My name is Edgar, as you can see from this stupid nametag. Anyways, we have one of the bigger dorms, so we are lucky. Each side of the dorm has it's own bed and it's own lamp and table. This side can be yours," said Edgar, pointing towards the bed near the door, "and I'll take that side," he concluded, pointing toward the bed near the window.
"Sounds good to me," said Will. "I already brought my luggage up here, it's right outside. Could you give my a little hand?"
"Sure thing," answered Edgar. The two freshmen grabbed some of Will's suitcases and lugged them into the dorm.
Edgar, who was carrying an especially heavy suitcase, asked, "What is in this thing?"
"Oh, the regular stuff. My Gamecube, Game Boy Advance, my stereo, some Pikachu stuff, my pokemon and duel moster cards, and, most importantly, a big slurpee cup." Will replied.
"Okay then," said Edgar, looking at his watch. "It's nearly time for dinner to begin. Let's go."
Edgar and Will exited the room and Edgar locked it with his key, which he stuck in his pocket afterwards. Just as they were about to head down the stairs, they heard a voice shouting, "Hey guys, wait up."
Edgar and Will spun around and noticed two other boys coming from their dorms. Two boys of their age were standing outside of the dorm across from theirs. One was about average height, bearing dark brown hair, and matching eyes. He wore blue jean shorts and had a red T-shirt on. The other boy was taller, with jet-black hair, and brown eyes that were hiding behind a pair of glasses. He was the first to speak up.
"My name is Jeff and he's David," he stated clearly.
"Nice to meet you two. I'm Will and this is Edgar," said Will.
"No time for introductions, we have to get to our orientation dinner thing," said David.
"Right," Edgar agreed, already heading towards the stairs. The other three followed close behind. The four walked together towards the dining hall, where they would have their first meal at the school: supper. It was nearly 7 at night and the sun was still setting. The boys entered the cafeteria and grabbed some trays and silverware, both of which were on a large cabinet outside of the actual kitchen part of the cafeteria. They entered into the dinner line and one by one selected their meal. Will, who was the first to enter, took a look around and noticed some baked potatoes in one section of the cafeteria. He tried to rush over to that section before the line started to grow, but it was to no avail. Unfortunately, Will ended up at the end of the line. Will sighed and leaned against the wall, thinking this would be another long lunch line. Will observed that the girl in front of him had brown hair neatly tied into a ponytail. She wore a lavender shirt, and matching pants, with white and purple sneakers on her feet. In her left hand was a brown leather purse with the words "South Carolina" written on it in purple. When she turned around, Will noticed she had a purple earring in one ear, and a pink earring in the other. Will said to himself, "Well, I'd better make the best of this," and introduced himself to her.
"The name is Will," he said firmly.
"I'm Shauna," the girl replied.
"What grade are you in?" asked Will.
"I'm in 9th," responded Shauna."
"Really? So am I!"
"Yayness! What classes are you taking?"
"Physics, Geometry, World history, Japenese, and English Literature. You?"
"Merf! I'm taking all of those except World History."
"Merf?"
"Uh... don't ask."
As Shauna and Will were engaged in a long conversation, David, Edgar and Jeff were all in the pasta line. "This cafeteria has everything," remarked Edgar, looking around the room. Jeff nodded in agreement and accidentally bumped into a girl.
"Sorry..." Jeff said apologetically.
"Oh, it's ok," said the girl, smiling. She was about 5'2" with perfect brown hair, and beautiful brown eyes. She seemed to put each of the boys in a trance with her shining smile.
"My name is Jeff, this is Edgar, and that person over there is David," Jeff said, slowly coming out of the trance.
"I'm Lina, nice to meet you all. You are all freshmen, right?"
"Yes," they said in unison.
"So am I!" exclaimed Lina.
"Really?" asked Jeff, "You look much older."
At that Lina giggled. "Nope, I'm just a freshmen like you."
"So. what courses are you taking?" asked Jeff, as Lina and Jeff entered into a long conversation.
Eventually, everyone got the food they desired, and they all sat at the same lunch table. David sat next to Jeff, who sat next to Lina, who sat next to Shauna, who sat next to Edgar, who sat next to Will. Suddenly, they heard a loud crash. They looked to the kitchen and saw a boy running out of the Dining Hall, lunch tray in hand. He instantly put his tray down at the table, and sat down as if nothing had happened. Jeff and David exchanged strange glances as they observed the boy. He was about their height, had dark hair, and was wearing ordinary clothing. He looked around the table and noticed that everyone was staring at him. He stood up elegantly, and stated, "I am Bob. Nice to meet you all."
"Nice to meet you, too..." Shauna remarked, a bit sarcastically. The boy seemed to be slightly annoyed by this, but he remained calm. Suddenly, another boy walked over to the table. The first thing they noticed about this boy was his height. He was extremely tall, and was also very skinny. He asked politely, "Hello. I'm Travis. Is this seat taken?"
By the end of the dinner, many others had joined and they seemed to all know each other fairly well and had already become somewhat a group of friends. They soon left the cafeteria and they exchanged goodbyes as Edgar, Will, Jeff, and David left to their dorms. As they walked up the stairs, they talked about their plans for the term, what they thought of the others, and some pointless things. By this time, it was 10: 00 PM and they were all very tired because it had been a long day. Jeff and David bid Will and Edgar good night, and they silently entered their dorm. After about 10 minutes of getting ready for bed, Will sat on his bed. As Edgar went to sit on his own bed, he heard a knock on the door. Edgar narrowed his eyebrows and looked at the door. He slowly walked over and swung it upon, revealing a tall young man, on the skinny side, with brown spiked up hair. His eyes were also a shade of brown, and he had some visible facial hair. His nametag read "Sophomore", as he had crossed out the name. He was eating an apple, and was already about halfway through.
"Hello, my name is. well, you can call me Pelican," he said, slightly grinning. "I live in the dorm down the hall. I have a single. I just wanted to meet you two."
Edgar looked at Will, and then back at the young man. "Well, hello! I'm Edgar and this is Will," Edgar said, pointing methodically to himself and to Will.
"It's nice to meet you two," Pelican said, and took a quick glance at his watch. "Damn, it's only 10: 30 and I'm tired." He had already finished the apple, and all that was left was the apple core. He chucked it across the room and it landed in the trashcan. "3 points!" he exclaimed as he walked out of the room. "Talk to you guys later."
"Hey, nice shot!" Will said, amazed that Pelican made it in.
Edgar laughed, and sat on his bed.
"We met a lot of new people today," he stated.
"Yeah, we did."
"Some of them were kinda weird though..."
"This is true..."
"But that Lina girl... she was blazing!"
"I guess..."
"I think we made some good friends, though. You know... Shauna, David, Jeff, Travis, Bob, Pelican and some others whose names I forgot."
"Yeah."
"Damn, I'm tired. I'm going to sleep. Plus, we have our first classes tomorrow. Good night, Will."
"Good night."
Edgar flicked off his lamp and slept soundly all night.
