THE WAR - PART THREE

The battlefield was strewn with blood,
Of warriors who fought so well.
Their corpses rotted in the mud,
While the demons flew back to hell.

Swords and spears and banners fair,
They held in their hands for long.
They silently said just one last prayer,
In hope that they had done no wrong.

Their king, they knew,
He would be proud.
Their battle was through,
But they had kept their vow,
To protect his kingdom.

Their children and wives,
They would all miss.
But they can't bring back lives,
So they will reminisce.

Their victory will be sung,
Written, and cherished.
It will be told amongst the young:
A story how their sires had perished;
And from the battle came back none.

Their kingdom then, was all at peace,
They knew they had to amend their ways.
For them, all war and strife had ceased;
It was a time for happier days.
