Chapter 1 The Incident

It was June 10th, ten days before school would end. The teachers didn't give us any homework at all because they wanted us to start having a little fun, like playing board games and watching TV, just like we are now. My mother went to Turn off the TV to buy us a game board to play in the summer. My father was at work and he wouldn't be back until 7. Annie, my oldest sister, was at work. She works at the University of Washington Medical Center. If you have figured it out, I live in Seattle, Washington. It's actually a pretty nice place. We just moved here last summer. My little sister, Angel, was sleeping and Niki, my best friend, was sewing a blanket for our neighbor's newborn baby girl. My older sister Heather was reading her book. As always. I, on the other hand, was watching my television with a perfectly fine mood, when someone rang our doorbell. I went to get the door. It was the new volunteer from school but I didn't know his name. He looked surprised, as if he rang the wrong doorbell. "Uh, hi.?" He looked confused. "Um, are you Katie? Wait, is Katie home? Wait-" "Yeah, I'm Katie," I said with a chuckle. "Um, may I help you?" "My mom wanted me to ask your mom if you guys want to have dinner with us," he said, starting to blush. "Sure! I have to ask my mom when she gets back, though. You want to come in?" I tried to suppress my laugh (I mean hello? A blush!). "Thanks," the boy answered as he stepped into my house. "What were you doing anyway?" "Oh, I was watching TV," I replied. "What's your name?" "Wait a sec. Isn't that your mom?" he said, as he pointed to the television. I gasped. "I would like to ask you a question. Is that okay, ma'am? The jewel in Pearl's Jewelry Store has been stolen. Do you know anything about it?" The reporter asked. "I'm sorry. I do not know anything about this robbery." "That's okay," the reporter replied. "Well, not everyone knows about it. Well, back to you, Dave, with the weather. I am Chrissy Tameria with the breaking news at 5." "Oh my god," I muttered. "What?" the boy asked.
