Topic: The Honesty Box
On facebook, there is this application you can put on your profile that enables others to post their anonymous opinions of you. I put it up and got some pretty interesting responses:

"I wish that you would post more pictures so that I could see you!"

"you are so smart & i dont know y you fail classes so much...??"

"You're everything a girl should be. I must admit, I've got a crush."

"You have the heart of an angel to others, with the human inperfect perceptions of self."

"You are very secrective and never talk about yourself. Sometimes I wunder if there's something bad going on in your life. I wish you'd be more open"

"You're a nice girl. A little out of the ordinary, but, uh, ordinary really isn't all that important. Keep your head up, young grasshopper, LoL."

"you have an amazing voice and your talented don't let people get you down"

"Your a **. Loose weight."

"i think you are an awesome child of god, but ppl don't understand you b/c you shut yourself out from others at school...be more outgoing!!

oh and wear less make-up"

"I still remember the day we met."

"Your prettier than you think."

"I feel guilty fo relying on you all the time to solve my problems but, it does always make me feel better. SOmetimes I wish I were more self-sufficient, lyke you."

"I'm mean to you sometimes, but only out of jealousy."

"i honestly think you're kind of mean. You think you're a better person then you actually are."

"u r 1 of the few ppl who've alwys bnn their 4 me i dont know what i wud have done w/out u"

"Just thowin this out there:

I want to mess around physically, but I don't want a full blown relationship, nor a ** or a girl I can't trust. If you feel the same way, email your answer to:

g84nv9aa@gmail.com

Sorry if I insulted you with my message. I just am really apprehensive about this in case you don't feel the same way. I don't want it to screw up our friendship."

"you should really work on being more secure in yourself! you are so talented and sweet, so you shouldnt worry whether or not people will remember you or if you will ever be truly accepted! you are a great person, and [though it hardly ever happens, haha] i enjoy your occasional company! :D"

"i feel responsible for you. i want to help u."

"I wish I know you better."

"Thank you so much, babe. You always know how to brighten up someone's gloomy day. You really are a ray of sunshine."

"Youve helped me thru alot and for that i thank you."

"YoU arE an uglie fatt bioch and i wish i neva met yu"

"you = too many talents"

"im secretly inlove with you but u dont evn kno i exsist"

"...I think youre cold && selfish && i hte yoou...srry..."

"weirdo"

"Yer purdy kewl but yer perfectionisim drives me krazy sumtimes"

A couple comments:

1. People apparently have very mixed opinions about me.

2. Some people have no knowledge of spelling and grammar whatsoever.

Sorry for the long post, but I really found this interesting.

I'm not on Facebook or MySpace or anything, so I haven't gotten any comments like that over the internet. The only times anyone (besides you) has PM'd me where asking about how to single-space lines of poetry here and what motivates me to write (I almost felt inadequate trying to answer that one because I write so sporadically).

1. People apparently have very mixed opinions about me.

I'd say polar opinions. The majority of the comments said you were very kind and talented, which with I agree. The most apt comments:

"You have the heart of an angel to others, with the human inperfect perceptions of self."

"You're a nice girl. A little out of the ordinary, but, uh, ordinary really isn't all that important. Keep your head up, young grasshopper, LoL."

2. Some people have no knowledge of spelling and grammar whatsoever.

I have only two explanations for this. The people either want to make their comments seem more informal and intimate by dropping grammar, or they just don't care enough to take the time and correct the mistakes in their messages. The latter is most obvious in the mean-spirited comments.

It's too bad that these comments were anonymous. It would be cool to thank the people that wrote highly of you. Cooler still it would be to post messages on the mean posters' profiles saying something like, "Well, at least I'm smart enough to remember grammar rules, you loser."

Hehe. I have Myspace too. :p Your parents would never let you have Facebook or Myspace.

It's cool. I haven't really been writing much either besides my stream-of-consciousness stuff, which I'm constantly writing.

The majority of the comments said you were very kind and talented, which with I agree.

Thank you.

Yep, it sure would.

Cooler still it would be to post messages on the mean posters' profiles saying something like, "Well, at least I'm smart enough to remember grammar rules, you loser."

I probably wouldn't do that. What would that accomplish?

Really the only comment that kind of stung was the "You think you're a better person than you actually are" thing.

I was pretty surprised at what some people said. Really the only comments I wasn't surprised by were the "fat" comments. I've been called fat since Elementary school.

Actually, my mom said that if I wanted to, I could make my own MySpace page. I just don't know if I want to, yet.

I probably wouldn't do that. What would that accomplish?

That's true, but you could at least some kind of satirical remark at them or something.

Really the only comments I wasn't surprised by were the "fat" comments. I've been called fat since Elementary school.

Why? I don't see it. And I'm not just being nice.

Actually, my mom said that if I wanted to, I could make my own MySpace page.

-gasp-

(PS. Facebook is much better.)

Why? I don't see it.

I was overweight from about fifth grade to sixth grade, then decided to do something about it. During the summer of sixth grade I lost enough to be considered healthy. However, I was still considered "fat" by others. So I lost more weight.

The only time others didn't call me fat was last year when my weight lingered in the 130s. I've since gained weight (I'm 160 now) and the "fat" comments have come back.

And I'm not just being nice.

It's okay if you are. I'm not too worried about it. I know I have the ability to change it. And I'm using that ability.
