Here's some information about what the contest does: http://poetrynotcom.tripod.com/ My own personal experience: I was eight and found an advertisement in the newspaper for a contest sponsored by Poetry.com. I sent a (in retrospect) crummy little poem to the contest. A few weeks later, the contest sponsers sent back a message saying I was a "semifinalist" in the competition and could purchase a copy of the anthology with my and other semifinalists' and finalists' poetry for $100 dollars or some other ridiculous amount. Money flows toward the author, and making those being put in print pay such a high price to see their work in print (and this was the only place I ever saw the anthology available) is a very scammy thing to do. I hope you have better luck with this (or at least don't get tricked again). |
