Topic: Nightwish
I was sad to hear that their lead singer, Tarja Turunen, is no longer with the band. I wonder who will be her replacement? I loved her voice...I don't know if their music will be the same again, but we'll see I suppose.

DUDE!

Don't you check the Nightwish site? Don't you go on forums to find out? Are you totally blind?

Of course they haven't got a new singer.

Anyway, Tarja really sucked. I like Nightwish. I don't like her.

This should go under the "Metal" thread.

I know. I read that they had about 1100 auditions since they let known their need for a new singer, but they won't say anything before 2007. I was just wondering what kind of person they were going to choose. They said that they were open to all types.

If I knew what kind of singer they're going to choose, then I WOULD be the new singer. Geez. No one knows. But rumors are that they can't find anyone.

Personally, I think they made a stupid career move. Fire Tarja AFTER you get a new singer, eh?

That would have made better sense if they did that, but they probably wanted their next album to have the vocals of a new singer. It would have turned out better if they had someone in mind before they did that though. I wonder if they're going to stick with a female vocalist or switch over to a male. I personally liked the main female vocals along with Marco's parts. What about you?

Without female vocalists, they become "just another crappy metal band". Not that the vocalist gets all the credit. Tuomas is a great writer, Marco is a fabulous vocalist and Emppu's work on guitars is amazing (and do I need to mention Jukka?). The band apparently works great together but I'm not that interested in male-only fronted metal. Aside from Kamelot, because Roy Khan is just plain hot. :).

I definitely agree with the Roy Khan part. :) He does also have an amazing voice in my opinion though.

One of the reasons I like Nightwish is because of their female-male collaboration, so I'm hoping that they stick with a female. It did give their music a little more of a dark edge.

I think that bands with a female/male collaboration are the best kinds of bands, as it satisfies those who like female and those who like male vocals, both.

But there are some bands that try to mix EVERYTHING-clean male vocals, then growls, then opera, then "normal" female vocals--like Tristania, and it just sounds weird. =/. I do like Sirenia, though...

I agree with that. Nightwish just really pulled it off with the vocal collaboration. Kamelot is simply male vocals, and every once in a while a guest female singer will come into the song. But of course, Roy Khan doesn't need any female singer to work with. But with Nightwish, it was just the perfect amount of female lines and male lines, and I'm hoping to see more of that in the future. That was perfect, and anything else would be overdoing it. Hmm, well I have Tristania and Sirenia on my list of bands to check out, but I haven't gotten there yet. ^^;

OMG!!! I just got Sirenia's An Elixir for Existence and it is the most amazing thing. Check them out! Now! And I also recommend Xandria...I've become sort of obsessed with them recently. Hehe.

Btw, I got Kamelot's One Cold Winter's Night. Amazing, I should say. Roy Khan is absolutely woonnndderrfuullll...And I'm impressed with the band's performance skills.

Oh and Nightwish...I don't think Marco is good enough to have the lead vocals all to himself. He definitely needs a female vocalist to counter his singing.

I'll be sure to check them out as soon as possible. :)

Marco definitely has a good talent in singing, and I like to hear his voice by itself; however, I would not like to hear just him throughout an entire song. So I do sgree. Female vocals add the last pieces that he's missing when he sings.

I know!

You know what...Nightwish would be my favorite band ever if it wasn't for Tarja. She annoys me.

What's wrong with her? Her voice can be a little over dramatic at times when she seems to be overdoing it, but she definitely has good talent and can sing way better than me though most people can.

I checked out Sirenia's An Elixir for Existence and downloaded the songs to my computer, and they're great! Do you like just the music or the vocals as well? I'm surprised because it's not really female-fronted metal, just a few lines here and there with the exception of one song that are female vocals. I do very much like the male vocalist though. It's very interesting!

I love Nightwish. Nightwish was the first band I ever cared more about the other band members rather than the lead singer. I love Tarja's voice but it's not what made Nightwish what it is. Nightwish is Tuomas's gorgeous lyrics, the synthesizers, Emppu's guitar skills, Jukka's drumming, and recently Marco's backing vocals. I love the dudes of Nightwish and I really hope the succeed with whoever the new singer will be. I know I'll stick with them no matter what...

Much love and BIG KISSES,

Steph

Same, same. :) It's good you think that. They're definitely a group of exceedingly talented musicians. I'm in love with Emppu's guitar skills.

Ja, I have the hugest fangirl crush on Emppu, I think he's absolutely adorable!

I was surprised, too, especially with the name SIRENia. But they're great nonetheless, music AND vocals. I have that same album and I'm planning to get their other two ones as well.

And did we get another Nightwish fanatic on board here? Awwww...

Emppu is totally gorgeous. :).

I never knew we had a forum here on FictionPress and I've been on here for, what, two years? If I'd known I would have been on here long before ranting about my love for Nightwish! Lol. I've been a fan for about four years (?) now. My friend who's also on FP is a Tuomas lover...

Much love and BIG KISSES,

Steph

Yeah, usually when you think of sirens, you think female. It was a nice surprise though! I also just downloaded At Sixes and Sevens last weekend.

Well, Steph, we're glad you stumbled upon this forum! You can rant about any band you'd like. :)

Hmm, Tuomas vs. Empuu. Actually, I like Tuomas a lot as well. I think he has a deep mind that reflects itself upon his lyrics, beautiful keyboard skills, and in the looks department, he has that dark romatic type of thing going on. Empuu, on the other hand, is all around adorable in every way with a kick-** force in the world of guitars as a major plus. :)
