NAME: Born Denime Brewer, dropped his last name upon becoming an anointed cleric of Valoran. He has developed some popularity in the west, and he is known as the Winged Sage by reputation. AGE: 27 RACE: Celestial(?), formerly Human LOOKS: Denime stands six feet, four inches in height. As a human, he was somewhat plain with no distinguishing characteristics, except of course for his height. Now, Denime has four large avian wings that project from his back. The two largest on top, the smallest; the bottom. His eyes are deep amber and his skin is tanned bronze. He wears clerical robes that are enchanted to transform into platemail armor when a secret word is uttered. WEAPONS: Denime wields a large bronze mace, though he is proficient with crossbows, staves, and battleshields. ALIGNMENT: Neutral Good LIKES: Healing, bees, flying (though he isn't very good at it yet), breakfast, fine clothing, and Myrror DISLIKES: Blind faith, intolerance, disease, and water HISTORY: Denime was born in a small farming community near Jules, the capital city of the Eastern Empires. His parents both worked in the fields during the day, so he and his older brother were responsible for gathering berries, mushrooms, fish, and other various foods. When Denime was ten years old, his brother contracted the dancing plague. The disease killed him within one day, but made his body twitch and flail for many long hours beyond his death. Denime's parents, though depressed by the loss of their eldest son, were strong, and recovered quickly from the incident. A few weeks later, at the height of the plague, Denime's father also contracted the disease. That very night, Denime discovered his healing powers when he used them to cure his father. Shortly after, Denime was sent to a temple to Valoran in a neighboring town to become a cleric. He turned out to be a clerical prodigy, learning faster and more completely than any of the other students. He quickly surpassed his peers, and was ordained as the youngest cleric in hundreds of years, at the age of seventeen. For four years, Denime served at the temple as a priest, until the day he discovered Myrror sorting through the confiscated objects that were stored in the temple. Syrus Sunfellow, the High Priest of Valoran, commanded that Denime travel with Myrror henceforth. For six years, Denime traveled with Myrror. During that time, he became close friends with the sorcerer. Denime also discovered how truly dark and cruel the world was. He saw plague, famine, war, death, poverty, and injustice at their highest. Denime was shocked not only at the world, but at himself. He had spent much of his life in blind faith, seeing only the blinding light of his god. Now, he has resolved to not only see the world as it is, but to aid it as best he can. Much about his transformation into a Celestial remains a mystery. It is believed that he entered a sacred chapel to a long forgotten god. There he rang some sort of magical bell that changed his body into that of a Celestial. These claims, however, have yet to be proven. INTERESTING NOTE: Denime no longer draws clerical power from Valoran. After his transformation into a Celestial, he became incapable of using clerical powers. He consulted with various authorities at the Monastery of Unending Light and they were able to create six golden coins, called aalinei, that he uses to restore his power at night.

Denime is certainly an interesting name…but how do you pronounce it? Why does he like bees; I get the feeling there’s a good story behind that. You introduce Myrror rather abruptly and with little information, other than he seems to be either a trouble-maker or nosy—could you elaborate on that point? Also, this Celestial being evades me. One last thing, the special note about the coins, I find it another interesting aspect of the character, but is it merely interesting or something important?

Denime is pronounced "De-neem", with a long "ee" sound. I've had some problems with he and Myrror's names, so it isn't anything new. Myrror is pronounced JUST like mirror. Denime likes bees because, in my world, each humanoid soul is derived from an animal. Animals were created before intelligent races. Each living creature is composed of differing amounts of the six primal elements. Each element gives living beings some sort of unique trait. The goddess of darkness, Ashista, and the god of light, Valoran, are responsible for giving living beings intelligence and the ability to understand morals and ethics. However, in order to ensure that each member of each race would be unique, they two gods decided to take the preexisting personalities of animals and impose them onto souls. When a new member of any intelligent race is born, a soul (the type of which has been predetermined) is given to them, providing the person with a unique personality. Denime's soul is a bee, meaning, among other things, that he works well in groups, and tends to seek shelter in large groups that share a common goal. This personality trait made him very well suited for life in the church. Because Denime's soul is a bee, he tends to admire bees, and they too seem to find his presence comforting. Myrror is not very outgoing about his past, and (outside of the book) I sometimes find it hard to write through Myrror. He is a sorcerer, so he tends to be very liberal about the use of magic. He is so in tune with the natural ebb and flow of mana that he sometimes uses it without necessarily intending to. If you would really like to know about Myrror's history, feel free to read my earlier post about him. I intend to work it into the story sooner or later... My Celestials are greatly influenced by the Celestials of the Dungeons and Dragons world. They are a race of holy beings that reside on the Plane of Positive Energy, which is where souls are stored. They have a strict caste system and consider themselves to be the chosen race of the gods. This position is highly ironic considering that they do not serve the gods like their angel counterparts. Angels are the spirits (NOT souls) of dead worshipers that have chosen to serve their god beyond death. They have very little power but generally act as messengers or avatars for their god. Angels have two wings, while Celestials have (if any) four wings. Some of the Celestial castes do not have wings. (These other types of Celestials are, as of yet, unknown to the races. Whenever Celestials are mentioned, the speaker is referring to the Solar Celestial.) The aalinei make Denime unique because he has abilities identical to that of a cleric, but he no longer receives power from a god. Since clerics had formerly held the belief that all clerical power comes from a god, Denime's case has sparked a controversy about the nature of clerical power and its source. Currently, Denime has been classified as a "light elementalist" by Valoran and his followers, though he does not have any abilities that elementalists have.

That’s a very unique way to have creation set…I never would have come up with that on my own. So, by virtue there must be more animals than “intelligent creatures,” yes? Where do you think this concept originated for you? You mentioned something about a separate post for Myrror? I’ll have to look for it; it was probably one that I left to Ruddy. It’s interesting that Denime is the center of a controversy. Tell me, does he care?

There are indeed more animals than intelligent creatures. Each animal contributed two souls; one male, one female. This does NOT mean that a man always receives the male soul and a woman; the female soul. Nor does it mean that the pair are "meant to be". It simply means that they share many personality traits. For instance, Myrror has the male fox soul, while some other person (I won't say who) has the female. They are both afraid of dogs and horses, and tend to be very indirect about nearly everything, but they are not in love. Denime might have cared about being such a unique case at first, but he is used to situations changing suddenly after spending so much timing adventuring with Myrror. More importantly, Denime's faith was completely shattered after he started adventuring. Valoran, though wise and inherently good, tends to promote blind faith. Denime believed, despite his past experiences, that Valoran shielded every person from harm, protecting them. When he was exposed to the ravages of war, famine, plague, and tyranny, Denime began to lose faith in the power of Valoran. He no longer feels that his god is the ONLY true god, nor does he believe that his views are the ONLY views. This may be the source of his clerical powers....

Q: This may be the source of his clerical powers....E.Q. Because he no longer has blind faith in Valoran?

He maintains use of the conventional spells associated with clerics, and he does work for a cause, but Denime pulls his power from the Ethereal plane. This plane is not governed by a god, unlike every plane that cleric power comes from. This grants him additional powers that no other cleric has access to.
