He was your brother, Jocasta thought to herself, not having the heart to correct him aloud.

"I realise he is dead now, but either way, he was dead before the sun had it's way. Just like all of us, we will soon follow Kale to the grave if we do not act upon the plan."

Jocasta still wore nothing more than the sheet from Kale's bed, and her makeup was running from all the cry. "I don't... understand."

"You are the rightful queen, Medea is the result of a love affair your mother had before she and the king concieved you."

She could only think to ask, "Does my father know?"

"No, but your mother did, and had written it down in her diary, which we have." Lestat held out a leatherbound journal from behind her cloak to Jocasta.

Jocasta looked unsure as she carefully took her mother's diary from Lestat's hands.

"We will be safe here, do not worry." he said before turning away to leave.

Jocasta didn't stop him.

Nights passed and so far nothing had happened. No assassins or fighting.

Jocasta refused to leave her chambers, save for the one time she attempted to fling herself into the sunlight.

Lestat had no choice but to reveal the truth to her, telling her that Kale never loved her, that he only seduced her so that she would trust him. Kale's true mate had been murdered by Medea, and he only sought out revenge. "You must defeat your sister."

"Leave me to my grieving," she cried.

"He never loved you." Lestat said again, "So stop wallowing in self-pity and get your act together."

"I mourn not for him," she replied bitterly, "I mourn for the family I once had, but now do not! Because of him, and you!"

"I saved your life and the future of all vampires. You must pull out of your delusion and fight back with all your might."

"Leave me," she shouted at him. "Leave me!"

"How can I trust you won't run out into the sun?"

"You cannot," she cried as she began to throw whatever she could find at Lestat. "Now, get out!"

He kept the lock on the door and approached Jocasta, grabbing her arms and pushing her against the wall. "That is enough."

She struggled against him, crying out wildly and cursing.

He covered her mouth with his to silence her.

Though she was silenced, there was no denying the pain the in the eyes that stared back at Lestat.

He pulled away slowly, staring into her eyes. "The pain of betrayal will never go away completely until you have your exact revenge."

"One day," she shoved him away, "I will. Believe me."

"That day will be approaching soon. My scouts are searching for the leader of the weres that we have been battling for years. My brother was their contact, feeding them information from within the court."

"This is traitorous, Lestat. If I ever wish to return to my family, I cannot involve myself in this. Please, speak no more of it!"

"What family do you have left who would not kill you on sight? Your sister? That woman had sentenced you to death."

"My sister would not have actually killed me," Jocasta told him matter-of-factly, though it sounded as if perhaps it was herself she was trying to convince. "We're sisters. She'd never do that. Not to me."

"She let my brother die. She killed your parents, and she will kill you."
