Topic: Lana's Office
The door swung open with a loud creak, revealing the cramped chaos within.

There was a desk in the middle of the room, covered in parchment, quills, ink bottles... Behind this was a simple wooden chair, with just enough room between it and the wall for someone to squeeze through sideways. To the left of the door was a chest of drawers with a mirror, water bucket, and brush sitting atop it. Along the right wall was a simple sleeping pallette, with just enough room to stand between it and the desk comfortably. At the end of it, in the corner, was a hat stand from which hung a shirt, another pair of pants, and a well-worn brown cloak.

Most impressive, though, were the shelves of journals, going from shoulder height all the way up to the top of the ceiling along the back wall. A skylight, puposefully too small for your average human to crawl through, allowed light into the otherwise stifling room.

"Here we are," said Lana, motioning for him to enter. "Home sweet home."

"Here we are," said Lana, motioning for him to enter. "Home sweet home."

Henas stared, mouth agape, at the confusion and order before him. His eyes swam, he had never seen so much paper in one place outside a library. How could she live here in this room with getting smothered to death by all the dust and paper around her. The sleeping palette was miniscule and looked thin enough to consist of about one straw. He had thought that Lana was more an action woman than a literate person, in fact he wasn't even sure if he had thought she was able to write.

"What are in all these books for? How can you manage to write this much? What is it all about?" Henas could not contain all the questions which he wanted to ask about this weird little room.

Henas stared, mouth agape. "What are in all these books for? How can you manage to write this much? What is it all about?" Henas could not contain all the questions which he wanted to ask about this weird little room.

Lana smirked at him, then shut the door behind them. "Those books contain twenty years of notes, twenty years of information on just about anything you can think of." She pointed to the bottom shelf, about three quarters full. "This is the most recent stuff. The last five of those or so are from this year."

"So you just make notes on anyone or anything you feel like? Why do you need all this? Surely half of it is just a waste of paper, some people will never do anything of note. Can you chart some family trees, from birth to marriage to death? There's so much information here, it could be used for any purpose!" Henas marvelled at Lana's genius but at the same time her weird hobby of practically pinning down facts of people's lives.

Lana chuckled. "Exactly. It's like I told you, kid. I'm an investigator. Information is my business. I'd be lousy at my job if I didn't keep extensive notes. You'd be surprised what things, that seemed so mundane when I wrote them, have come in handy later on.

"From this collection of small things, you can get the big picture, whole and complete. You can see how the city has changed in the last twenty years, and who changed it. You can see what the common folk have been up to... As well as the royalty."

She scooted around him to the other side of her desk then, and grabbed the chair to stand on. Then, reaching up to the very top shelf, she took down a book, patted the dust off of it, and tossed it to him. "That's what was happening about the time you were born."

Henas wasn't sure whether or not he wanted to know what was going on in the city when he was born. It's not like it could have affected him in anyway, half the people who worked in the palace weren't allowed outside its grounds so that outside elements didn't pollute it's grassy shades. That had included his mother as well but there had always been rumours of his legitamacy but he had just been told that this happened to every prince who had a beautiful mother.

"Is there anything about me in here?" Henas knew he didn't want there to be but it seemed almost inevitable.

Lana raised her eyebrow at him. "The birth of the prince? What do YOU think, kid? I like to keep a handle on everything, especially what things the Thieves' Guild might try to take advantage of... Anyone with lots of wealth."

((If he reads it, it will have her speculations, as well as any info she knows, and where she knows it from. Her hand is well practiced and quite legible, more of a practical use of good penmanship than the flourishing hand of royalty. It marks her, perhaps, as a member of the merchant class... at least when she got her education.))

Alis jumped up onto the roof of the place and looked in thrpugh a small skylight. Did this boy say he was a prince? Royal blood, now that would be tasety.

((Um... Her office is VERY cramped... I believe the prince may have been right in front of the door still, and it would only be one step before he got pushed into the desk. There's hardly enough room for her to live in it. Also, the door creaks, LOUDLY, so I doubt your wraith could enter "silently". As for shadows... There are no shadowy corners in her office, or places someone could easily hide thanks to her fear of assassins, and, again, the wraith would have to try and move without running into anything.))

((Got a choice between the skylight (too small for the average human to crawl through) and the door. There are no windows... Again, her fear of assassins.))

Henas looked up, glad to be distracted from the strange rumours surrounding his birth that he was reading. There had been a prophesy or was it something else he couldn't quite manage to read what with the sprawling hand? Never mind that for now, there seemed to be something staring at him in a very hungry way from the skylight.

"Um Lana. You know you were talking about protecting me? Well I would say now would be a good time. I'm surprised you haven't noticed..."

Lana glanced up, then, subtley, stared at the thing looking at them through the skylight.

Slowly, she stepped toward the door and Henas. "I never said anything about 'protecting' you, kid. Just about teaching you a few things about surviving on these streets," she muttered. "Lesson one... Know when to run..."

She put her hand on the handle to the door. "When I open the door, we're going to head straight out to Dock Street and into the nearest crowded building, you got that kid?" She murmured, barely even moving her lips.

"Foolish humans. You can't outrun me." Alis jumped into the room and looked at the prince. "Such strength. Such power. Oh, I can taste it already!" She leaped forward, but it wasn't much a step considering how close they already were. Just before she landed on the prince, the door flew open and she fell threw it.

Not waiting for the wraith to recover, Lana grabbed Henas's sleeve and pulled him with her, running through the open door and down the alleyway, toward the street. She drew her dagger as she did so, and only hoped she wouldn't tr-

Just then, her foot caught at an uneven part of the ground, and she pitched forward.

Henas grabbed Lana and dragged her up again hoping to keep her running. As he did so he reached for his sword which he hated using outside the training ground. Right now it didn't seem too bad an idea. He just hoped it would do something against this fiend.

The wraith took her chance. She lunged forward and placed her hand on Lana's chest, but just befor she could begin to feed, her hand slipped of. It was wet from when she hit the ground. This would not do!

Henas, with his sword ready in his hand, stood over the girl and put the point to her throat. She looked dead already to him, pushed the point a little harder to see if it would draw blood...

It did, in a way, but it was actualy a green-gray ooz. Quite grotisque. She looked up at him and smiled. The same ooz was on her numeroise rows of teeth. She gave a sigh and said, "I am beaten." Lowering her head she prepared to be slayn. Just before the sword hit, she grabbed the boys wrist and slung him on his back. Before he could get away, she jumped on him and prepared to feed. Suddenly she was thrown back by and odd force.

Henas was overcome with suprise. First with the girls blood, then with her lunging at him and finally with her being thrown powerfully back from him. What was it? He was at least grateful for it but it worried him slightly. How many times had he been beaten up by the training master? Why had it not come into force then? Then again, thinking about it this situation was slightly more serious.

The wraith threw her hands on the ground and screamed a blood curdling, ear spliting, deathly scream. She looked up and scrwamed again. An animal of some kind flew overe her and she disapeared. Above them was a sound similar to her scream, but much more gentle to their ears.

Lana grimaced at the scream as it lanced through her ears. Quickly, she pulled Henas to his feet, closed the door of her office, locked it, then began to drag him back toward the street by the sleeve. She wasn't about to stick around in case there were more of those things...

After about an hour, the wraith, and 3 more arived. They were not going to give up so much fresh strength and life. It would keep them saticfide for weeks.
