Still, I thought I would share some things I've learned.

If you post anything online you have handicapped yourself.

When you go to a publishing house they are going to buy serial rights. If you publish online you will have to tell them and will have to sell them second serial rights rather than first. This can cause trouble because why would they want to buy a story that anyone can read online? It goes with the rule that putting something online /is/ publishing it. Also, there's always a chance that someone will steal the storyline.

It doesn't mean that you can't post stories up for review and critique but I would recommend that you reserve your hard-worked stories for another medium. There are writing groups all over that place that can help and you won't have such a high risk of stealing.

This isn't to discourage your efforts I just thought I would share some information. I read "Everything To Know About Publishing" to learn about the entire system. I'd recommend it if you're seriously interested in becoming a published author. It's very useful.
