All You Need to Know

_________

First off, this is an edit. So ignore the posts down there, they were discussed before this edit, so they might not make sense. Quite a bit has changed since then, but nonetheless for the better.

Kay, if you decided to actually check this out, then you must be extremely bored right now. But I have this really small cause right here: if you scan through story after story after in this place, you'll notice each has about 1 review, 10 tops? I know I love reviews, and I’m sure there must be some out there who would agree.

So here's the thing, the point of my utter rambling:

This forum is to raise the amounts of reviews an author gets for their piece of writing. All it takes is one review from anyone who has joined this revolution. And you might get some fav stories out of this too, meet some cool people, get some new friends, you know, the good stuff...

btw, if you would like to be a moderator, PLEASE tell me!!!

_________________________________

On a quick side note, I also have a forum like this for poems, if you would like to check that out:

http://www.fictionpress.com/ft/542052/2108/1/

And here's a link to our C2: The Review Revolution: The Best

....Topics to start with:

Introductions

If you wanna join the revolution, just introduce yourself here, saying you want to join, saying what genres you like, stuff like that. Nothing creepy, no personal info. Just check it out if you want to know more. :D

Story of the Week

One story will be submitted each week by one member. The story will be one the member chose. Each week a new category will be picked from one of all the categories in fictionpress. Once you've joined go to the topic: "Our Members" for details.

When you post your "Story of the Week" you will add a number to the end of it. (i.e. The first Story of the Week is entitled "Story of the Week: 1" by the time we've been going through Story of the Week five weeks running, it'll be called "Story of the Week: 5")

Our Members

This is a list of everyone who's joined, after you've joined, I'll add you on. It gives info on what week you'll be choosing stories for Story of the Week, and what genre you have to choose from. If you don't like the genre I pick (I'll pick according to what you say you like in "Introductions") just ask for a different one there, and I'll see what I can do. But note, we are dedicated to going through EVERY genre.

A Little Help

This is where we discuss any problems we're having with the forum.

The How To

This gives you a basic idea how to organize the info for Story of the Week when it's your turn. Please visit it if you don't know how to make links.

Story of the Week: Vote

We've made a c2 called "The Review Revolution: The Best" where we put our favorite stories from each story of the week. Kind of like an elite place to be. Here (if you are a member) you get to vote. Once you vote which story you want in the archive, we'll post your votes on the first post.

The votes will be taken into consideration at the end of the week and the story will be put into the archive. A story is up for voting when it's week in "Story of the Week" is over, and you'll have a week to vote for it there.

The Unnoficial Topic of Scheduling Programs

This place is where you can visit to allow us to know when you can't be there so we can change your place on the Member List.

How to Get Reviews

This is a thread made by Fractured Illusion where you can learn the proper ways to form your story to get the ultimate number of reviews.

Review Summaries and Titles

Another one by Fractured. Here you can post your story idea and get ideas for the title and summary.

The Random Topic

A place to go if you're in the mood for crazy and random conversation.

Message Board

Quite a useless creation of mine made so you can know any updates happening. It's locked, so there are no replies and no conversations, just info. There will be a date by the title so you know if it has been updated.

I support this idea of yours! However I bring suggestions to better it:

A "Story of the Day" can be awfully fleeting. Some can't log in everyday, and thus the authors don't get to utilize this forum's capability. So in my mind, a day is not enough. For when there are only a small amount of members, you could let it be that everyone have to review the story before moving on to the other one no matter how many days it takes (though maybe have an ultimate limit)

*or*

decide a time-limit (ie in 5 days / you have until Tuesday to turn it in! / something similar). And in this time period everyone will try to work as hard as they can to get to review it.

When this place grows a bit larger (concerning the rate of members), there could be several stories of the day(or rather, week), but at first I suggest to keep it low so as to not exhaust everyone.

What do you think? (Once again; wonderful idea)

hey, Fractured, that's an awesome idea! thanks so much! it could be like: one chapter stories need at least 5 reviews, and multi-chapter stories need a certain amount of reviews, depending on the amount of chapters. i dunno, like you said, depending on the amount of people that show up decides how large the limit will be. we shall see...

and a five day limit could work also, but once again, it all depends how many people we get.

thanks again-

one chapter stories need at least 5 reviews, and multi-chapter stories need a certain amount of reviews, depending on the amount of chapters.

I don't think we should see it as a 5/10/whatever review limit (maybe a minium limit but not a max). Because if someone has something to say and the review limit is filled up, they can't leave an opinion.

Also, you should excersie control if someone who's a member but doesn't review much should be taken off the life.

Just a thought :P Now pimp this place!

That's a great idea, and I agree with the others that it should be more than one day for the featured stories. If this thing takes off, count me in. I leave awesome concrit on stories, and only wish others would do the same.

Should it now be added that if members aren't active, the other members will respond by not reviewing he or she, as well as the fact that they get bumped down on the list? I think you should highlight this some place, like WARNING or something ^^;

Hi! It's me, again.

This forum seems like an incredibly good idea -- I kid you not.

I...Well, when I joined, I didn't realize that FictionPress was a cut-throat place in that everyone liked looking at their own stories, and never reading or reviewing anyone else's.

Anyways, the point is that I would like to be a member, and spread the review-love. I like reading humor, fantasy, and romance.

You're the one that gave me all those wicked-awesome reviews!

Thank you, by the way. Those reviews made my week!

Thank you for also picking my story. Boggles the mind, sometimes, that people come across it.

While I do wish you good luck with it, I must say, don't be surprised if hardly anyone joins (which happened to the original one). I'd join, but I really dislike poetry... :/ Worse is, I can't even give proper feed-back on it.

Oy, anyone else here who understand poetry? Join it!

Question! Question!

I was thinking about how all of us are assigned a genre, but... what about a separate thread for shameless promotions? I mean, what if I read a really good story but it isn't in my genre? Or say a friend is writing a story. It isn't your own story or assigned genre, so when it's your turn to be voted on, you can't submit it or suggest it. Can we make a place where we can just say, "Hey, this is really good. Check it out, if you want."? Something optional/supplimental?

For example, I CO-authored something with someone. How does that fit into the scheme of things?

The best way is to tell them to join the revolution. It's called member benefits. We get more members and they get their share. Why not?
#33 Aug 19th 2007, 9:51pm

Yeah, but some people might not want to, or are too busy to, review back. Regardless, if we get that topic I know who I'm pimping.
#34 Aug 19th 2007, 9:56pm
Fractured Illusion
@beadlety

This is a DARNED good question. Hmm...

But from what I can gather, boss told us we could start topic (without her permission) regarding reviews. I suppose for other things, such as this, we need her "okay" vote. It's a nice idea though! Could certainly help with guiding to good stories (though I think it should be a rule that we can't pimp our own stories, nor that of other members :P)

I have thought of something else about this review revolution, though. So lend me your free ears (and eyes. And money)

We have FAR too many inactive members. What should we do with them? Really?

I thought that the fact that some are that inactive is because they are so darned far down the list, so they get discouraged. This weekly thing is not a fast process, after all. Sooo, I thought, after talking to concon about one of the weirdo writer groups he is in, that maybe we could divide all members into *groups* too? That way, there are several stories of the week, and people get up the list faster.

Concon, this is where you gracefully enter the stage and elaborate more on this subject that you people use with groups, because I suck at explaining.

*shoves concon up on stage*

#35 Aug 20th 2007, 1:19am
DarkBlysse
Lol. I dunno. I think it'll get too hectic like that. I mean, some of us already have trouble reviewing the two stories we need to. And is it really so bad to have to wait so long? Especially when you haven't even earned it yet?
#36 Aug 20th 2007, 1:22am
concerto49
Oh fine. If you insist. Stage or not.

** Before the group thing though - um I just thought of it. Maybe we could do the general form of SKOW awards and all and we have recommendations (so any story), nominations and things, and judges, etc... you'll have to expand on that though. Just a follow up on that.

The group thing is simple. NO, YOU STILL REVIEW ONE PERSON AT A TIME EACH WEEK SO NO PANIC.

You get put into groups - say five per group. Say we have thirty people - six groups.

Each week, someone from each group goes up. So, that's five people at once. Members of each group review that person up. So each round you get in this case 4 people reviewing you.

Next week, the second person goes up. Same applies.

Once the cycle in the group is complete, you rotate - so form new groups with different people (like shuffle them). Then the process begins again. It's just doing multi in a way, but with smaller numbers. The idea is you don't wait a year, but you might get a bit less each time. With my short chapter theory - it's better to have a bit each time and then something big next year when you might not need it.

** As for inactive members - well in that group, you have to review something, or else they skip or turn and you won't get placed in the new list when a shuffle occurs.

Hope that answered things?

#37 Aug 20th 2007, 1:27am
Fractured Illusion
That is why we need larger groups (in concon's case, it was 6 members. For this place with a lot of inactivity, I think that would be too little).

We're 27. if we divide by three we get...we get... *blinks* O.O

(did I mention I SUCK at math?)

9?

That's alright, right?

I'm just throwing this idea out there, because I needed to get it off my chest. You may now reject all you wish :P

SKOW - Some kind of beautiful

Aka; A ridiculously large romance-oriented fiction competition.

SKOW This is the C2, the largest thing on FP

http://www.freewebs.com/skow/

This is the website.

It's a huge thing in the romance world. I wasn't even aware of it until concon told me.

Well doing everything BUT is being personal. Doing everything is better. But any suggestions?

I dunno. I don't like it much, to be honest.
#44 Aug 20th 2007, 2:33am

Romance should only a sub-category, I think, then.

*is the kind of type of girl that loves romance that is hinted at instead*

And I think the group thing could be good. And like you said; the inactive members could all join together in their "shame" group, earning their way up (which will now be much more apparent since it is more direct) But first maybe we should "delete" some members that came and never returned :/

Like, what happened to "Not Dead Fred" and "summerbee"? :/

#45 Aug 20th 2007, 2:35am
DarkBlysse
I've seen Mold around, Frail. More than other members. =\
#46 Aug 20th 2007, 2:37am
concerto49
Though then a story should be able to be nominated as any category that fits rather than the FP category they chose - that just sounds restrictive and sometimes it's hard to really pick on that.

Yeah some people are missing. Well in that group's rule you did get to redeem yourself by catching up on reviews. Hm, well they enforce reviews so yeah - not like us. I think the freedom of reviewing here discourages people slightly.

#47 Aug 20th 2007, 2:38am
Fractured Illusion
Oooh, is the dead fred Mold? :O

#49 Aug 20th 2007, 2:40am
Fractured Illusion
No freaking wonder I didnt recognize the name! *smacks self*

Ah well then! ^^ No worries. Only summerbee that is criminally absent then.

@concon

Then there should be judges for each category too. Does this mean so sub-categories for the genres? Only the standard: Most Humorous Story, Best Tragedy, etc?

And I think that if we forced people to review here, THAT too would be discouraging.. Hmm.. Dilemma.
