Topic: For the link-making and formatting challenged
Help with links and the new formatting tools at fictionpress!

/Story Title/ by /Author Name/

And if you need help with links:

For stories:

[ s : 0000000 : Title ]

(without any spaces)

so it will come out like this:

Story

For authors:

[ u : 0000000 : Author Name ]

(again without spaces)

so it'll come out like this:

Author

Lastly for c2's:

[ c2 : 0000 : c2 Name]

(Once again, no spaces)

c2

(of course these links won't go to anything, because i used 0000000 for the id instead of an actual id number.)

if you don't want to use FP's tools, here are some (easier in my opinion) ways to format:

to bold text:

[ b ] and at the end of the text you want to bold [ /b ] without spaces

to italicize

[ i ] and at the end [ / i ] without spaces (like you didn't get that by now)

to underline

[ u ] and at the end [ / u ] without spaces

to highlight

[ h ] and at the end [ / h ] without spaces (big surprise)

and for quotes

[ q ] and at the end [ / q ] without spaces

Thank. You. :| I am as computer illiterate as they come, and was actually about to ask my boyfriend to help me link to the forum in my profile...though I see you haven't explained how to link to a forum. Can you add that, please? :D

As far as I am concerned, in *forums* we cannot link anything other than what the above says (Story Link, User Link, C2 Link, Category Link)

On our profiles, we can link to anything however. There is a different code there.

1. write a word you wish it to be clickable (ie Review Revolution)

2. Mark/select it (the way you do when you wish to copy something, you know?)

3. Up at the little menu where you can make text bold etc, click the last icon that says Insert/Edit Hyperlink

4.You will get a new small window up. Copy and paste the address of ie this place into the "Address" part (the ENTIRE link. Not just numbers. www.whatever.com you know?)

5. Write the title (Review Revolution)

6. Click Okay

7. Click "Save changes" on your profile editing page.

8. You're all done! Check your account and click it to be sure

But like I said, this seems only do-able in profiles

Hey DB - I guess it might not have to do with being computer literate or not. I mean if you knew about computers and stuff, it will be easier for you to work it out and/or find out as compared to others, but that's all.

I mean I had trouble with quite a few things in FP when I started and had to learn how everything worked in the technical aspects, and by far I know a lot about computers and related.

DarkBlysse
Yeah...but I -am- computer illiterate, whether is affects FP or not.

Ho, yeah! Guess what? The link shows up--but goes to a "Cannot Display/404" page! Yaaay! I'm even more confused now. Yes, I tried -several- times, just to see what I was messing up and nothing garnered a different result, sadly.

Crap, the link I posted didn't turn out visible :/

And DB, what were you unable to do? Which link type?

#8 Jul 26th 2007, 9:54am

The one in my profile that comes here to the Review Revolution forum. =\

I can see the problem already. Your webadress you inserted is a repeat. you have the whole one, then it starts all over again at www.

May I ask if you inserted a link adress more than one time when doing this procedure? (because you shouldn't. Only once)

#10 Jul 26th 2007, 10:02am
DarkBlysse
Nope, only once. So I dunno -how- that happened. I'ma go try again with that new knowledge. Thanks! ^_^*

Fractured Illusion
Ok, tell me how it goes! (Only insert the link adress once. Remember! :P)

Okay, so since it's repeating the fictionpress.com part, I just put the /ft/542052/1423/1/ in there and tried that. And even -without- a fictionpress.com in there, it repeated the same thing. It's got to be the site, and not just me.
#13 Jul 26th 2007, 10:07am
Fractured Illusion
Awfully strange. it doesn't do that to me (and I changed it today even) :/

Can you give me a quick run down on how you write it in? Otherwise, I can just email you (since normal PM's and forum things don't make links visible) the code?

#14 Jul 26th 2007, 10:11am
DarkBlysse
Huh? Write it in? .....God, where'd the English go?

God, where'd the English go?

*points north* Over there. Canada stole it.

Anyhow; what I meant, that you describe step by step how you write the link so I can see if you make any wrong turns ^^

But wait! *checks DBs profile* You're cured! :O You managed it!! Whoopieee! *celebrates by jumping up and down around DB*

#16 Jul 26th 2007, 10:19am
DarkBlysse
Managed it? Cured? -Canada-? ...I did nothing. Absolutely frikkin nothing. I told you it was the site! I may suck with computers, but I can follow instructions. Lol.

Canada holds the answers *nods*

And yes, YOU did it! :D Its fixed! Cured! Like Jesus after his death! *thumbs up*

Who is this..."Jesus" you speak of?

Oh no worries. Um I don't understand the forums though. What does a flag mean?
#25 Jul 29th 2007, 4:02am
Fractured Illusion
Don't you get flagged when you are bordering into being banned? Or is it something else?
#26 Jul 29th 2007, 4:26am
YourRedDoor
the flag on a topic means it's pinned, which means it stays at the top of the forum, the lock means no one can add replies.

Thanks. I first thought --

The flag means calling for help and to surrender.

The lock means someone is in jail.

Fractured Illusion
Oh! The flags THEMSELVES! I thought you wondered about the expression ^^;

But flags in the list of reviews you have given means the story has been updated

Talk about moron - I was interested in taking the lock home for my draw. *Wonders about stealing from the forum*
