C2 Link: Review Revolution: The Best

So basically, since we are to have a C2 where the best stories we have read and reviewed lies, we of course have to agree which ones to send off there! ^^; Democracy and all. Here we discuss, after the week is over, if we think any of the stories should go into the C2 (preferably not when the week is ongoing, as others may or may not have caught up by then).

Stories to make a decision about:

Vote yes or no! You may vote yes for several/all, and you may vote no for several/all. And you are not allowed to vote for your own stories.

Stories voted in the C2 so far:

The Complex by Tamerai (2 votes), X Infinity by concerto49 (7 votes), Incarnate by DarkBlysse (6 votes), Birds of a feather by tabiscus (5 votes), Red Riding by Angel Nightfall (4 votes), They Who Sin by Fractured Illusion (5 votes), Two People who Hate Each Other A Lot by FreakierThanThou (7 votes), Crossroads by Bladedream (4 votes), The (near) Killing of Mirabel Jones by Whirr (6 votes), Five Under Fire by Serom Kim (5 votes), Universe by DarkPegasiKnight (5 votes), Monochrome by DarkPegasiKnight (1 vote)

Why does no one vote?

Ok; Ima vote first myself. Was going to give the honour to someone else but ah, screw it!

A Model Story: No. Why? Shallow and a tad too many plot holes

Crystal Spirit: No. Why? The conversations between the characters didn't feel natural (info dumping), as well as their actions. It felt rushed, too

X Infinity: I can actually say yes to this one. So far it seems well plotted out, the characters are nicely shaped, as is the story, and it doesn't rush either. Well balanced. (though concon, be careful with the info-dumping dialog you have a tendency to make)

I'm not voting because I hadn't been able to read either of the past week's story of the weeks. Isn't it a bit too early to vote? Or are we voting on just the stories of the previous week?

We're voting for the first week.

I vote for X Infinity. Rawr.

Um... I know it's kind of early, and I'm in the minority, but can I cast part of my vote for Week 2? Because if I can, I liked What is the End, Exactly? quite a bit.

Sorry, Stress. You'll have to hold that thought for another week ^^ One voting at a time, just like one Story of the Week at a time.

Boss, ali, your votes have been counted! (and I wrote who voted for what to make things easier on me so as to not make the same person double-vote for the same story)

And geez, X Infinity is quite crushing everything else :P

How many votes are required to get into the C2? At least half of those who voted? A third? *votes for half because it is easier to count* I'm asking for future polls (this one doesn't seem to offer much drama ^^)

Sorry, I can't vote. *Stars* (Means I ain't voting for endless)

Um well if a majority of members vote - then the one with the most votes. I mean in the case that each story gets even votes, it might not be half.

Just for fun. Do I have to make a thank you speech and someone hand me an award?

#19 Jul 30th 2007, 7:48pm
Fractured Illusion
But lets say;

Story 1: 5 votes

Story 2: 6 votes (since members can vote multiple)

Story 3: 2 votes

How do we do with that? I think there is no limit to how many can go into the C2; if enough people voted, and liked the story, it should go. Like in this case; story 1 & 2.

Oh, dear. Usually I end up majorly screwing things up, but here goes:

A Model Story by Endless-Story

This story was interesting. Nikki isn't perfect. In fact, she's got plenty of flaws. She gets jealous, she wants revenge; she has goals, and she abandons the conventional ones. This story's well on its way to having a nice, well-rounded, believable character. There's some stereotyping that needs to be looked into and the writing could be polished a little bit more though. Flow needs work: it isn't bad, but it could be better.

X Infinity by concerto49

The author has a good idea here. I'm not one for the war scene, but I have to admit that I was pretty interested. There are only two things that I'd complain about. I've seen stories with this far more horrifically demonstrated, but "I" was the opening word of a lot of sentences. Secondly, the author was going for a level of subtlety and...'trickiness', if you know what I mean. It kind of worked, but kind of didn't.

Crystal Spirit by concerto49

Took my a while to catch that the sarcasm was internal monologue. Might want to italicize that or something. I was like, “The fourth wall is BROKE…Oh, never mind.” Kind of awkwardly written. “Female” isn’t the only word for a woman. Stuff like that. Not bad though. Definitely very interesting.

Over all, I vote for concerto49’s X Infinity.

Yes, sorry I take back what I said earlier. I'll save my speech for later. I'm in a rush - sneaking between class. Gosh lectures are making me sleepy like hell.

Okay, yes, there should be something like at least 1/2 the number = to the number of members. It shouldn't be week bounded so yes, it that case 5, and 6. But I should also say that if a week all gets low votes then none gets in.

*Now rushes off for more lectures*

I vote for X Infinity, and Serom? Can I ask that 'Incarnate' be linked to in the C2 and not 'Brittany's Curse'? It's just that I want more R&Rs on 'Incarnate' and all..

And now that the voting appears to be over and all votes counted, X Infinity was the popular favorite and have now been installed in the C2! Congratulations, concon. Speech now? ^^

And now, I hereby open the voting for DarkBlysse's week, as Boss already added X Infinity (thus the week is over.) Vote on, darlings!

Speech? Okay, I think I know what to say.

In its essence, X Infinity originated from a childhood dream where I had cast myself as Ice Paladin. The origin story was set in ancient times - the sort with magics and swords. It was based on some old best friends that are no longer around. It all started when at a young age I had to accompany my parents fishing, but never fond of it I only had me and my imagination. The names to the characters are similar to those in the real world.

To remember this time and people the story was created in its pure form - it was an action/adventure quest about kingdoms. One of my close friends from those above had role-played parts of this with my during my primary era, and the story has since been on-going in my spare time with its spin-offs for the many years up to now.

Its second revision depicts a rather complete change and deep impact I have had. In the first version, the story begins with Ice as the young character that fought the war with his friends. The second hints my desire to completely wipe out the past (hence Ice's leave of the army). However, he faces everyone yet again, and has to deal with that.

In about its tenth year, the current X Infinity uses the third revision of the story. It all began when I was in the supermarket walking the isles seeing an OL buy tampons. All I had was a scene. That's all I needed to begin any story. I began thinking and remembered this. That's how it all fit in. All of the recurring characters in my life will soon appear in subsequent chapters. Isaac was one of them.

I thank everyone that has read it and made a comment. Here, I make my point again. Reading around, many said they did want to post anything on websites fearing it would be stolen and that if you had work up, you may not be published. My dream is not to be published. Someone taught me one thing - don't let the odds in life keep you from doing what you're meant to do, and that no matter how dull life is, there's always a bright side waiting to be discovered. Tributes to her. All I wish to do is to allow you to experience the journey I've provided you - the meaning of life.

Again, I thank those that believe in me and supported me. Someone said to my idol and I'll repeat it here, "hard work will earn results". Thank you. Oh and remember to support Z Illusions. I try even harder and won't give up. Remember - life is precious, make use of every drop of it. Time cannot be reversed. Make sure you think about your actions. There are no second chances. However, do what you think is right and don't hesitate. Cheers!

The End Is What, Exactly? was good, but didn't really go anywhere. It seemed... dropped, I suppose. I liked it, but I'm going to have to say nay.

Incarnate, however, I loved. Great characters, plot, ect ect. Obviously wasn't perfect, but instead of giving a long speech about what I liked and didn't like, I'm just going to vote yes.

Fran you have fantasy. SO easy of a genre to pick good stuff out of :P (the fantasy genre is definitely leading in our child forums btw!)

My votes:

Incarnate: Yes - Well structured, no filler, good set of characters and a lovely flashback at the end ^^ (but blysse needs to milk them emotions a tad more)

Brittany's Curse: Yes - I found it enjoyable and the ending was real nice!

Fractured Fairytale: No - Wasn't up par with the rest

The End is What, Exactly: No - I may just have ridiculously high standards regarding humor, but hey, I still have them, so I can't change it.

Ima add my votes now! Yaowzaaa!

Can't go on the Story of the Week thread, so TabiCat, my pleasure. Literally. I'm going to read Red Riding when I can, but right now I'm having a bunch of schedual stuff. It's 5:30 where I am and I just got home, except a tiny break for lunch, during which I managed to eat lunch and go to the bathroom before having to leave again.
