Topic: Rules. Please read before posting! (Updated Sept 22)
POSTING

1-Keep this forum PG-13. Swearing is allowed, but the words f-ck and sh-t should be censored.

2-Do not take insults or remarks from characters personally. They reflect the character, not neccessarily the individual.

3-Check for grammar and spelling before posting. A few errors are acceptable, but if your post is confusing, then it must be corrected.

4-Mods and I have the right to alter/delete posts, lock threads, and anything else deemed appropriate to deal with circumstances. Don't be upset when we do so.

5-Be polite when communicating with your fellow RPers. It's hard to negotiate when one or more parties are arguing.

6-If you need to make "Out of character" statements, use ((double brackets)).

7-Use third person at all times, unless you're making an OoC statement.

ROLE PLAYING

1-Sorry, but all characters have to be human, or at least human-ish. I can't complain about vampires, undead, etc. Ultropolis is supposed to exist in a slightly futuristic setting in our world; just don't step out of your bounds.

2-Magic is allowed. Although I would like to devise a magic system solely for this forum, that would be too hard. Most types of magic are allowed; holy magic, demonic magic, ninja magic, etc, take your pick.

3-Remember: the DM is always the authority in rping. If he/she says that something has to be corrected or changed, then you should comply.

EXCEPTION: If you think he/she is abusing his/her position, you should report it to me or a mod. We will review the situation and come to our own conclusion.

4-Don't overpower with your character. Tone them down, even if they are supposed to be really strong. No Chuck Norris's or Spartans.

5-A character cannot be in more than one place at once. A single written character cannot be represented in more than one place at a given time.

6-For ease of RP, hub-style threads will be on a time warp. It will always be the same time of day, forever.

HUB STYLE THREADS: Sunshine Cafe, Black Dragon Gambling Den, The Docks

7-If you are controlling an NPC that is not your own creation, keep them in character. For example, Shen would not tell you the location of the ninja guild headquarters just because you flashed a quarter in his direction. He needs real motivation.

8-Remember that the city is an island. You can't just run out the city, you'll have to jump off a cliff or swim out from a beach if you want to escape. Good luck though; Ultropolis is in the middle of the ocean. Where will you go? =P

9-Characters can have threads for their homes, workplaces, hangouts, or anywhere else where they would spend much time. Just use your common sense with these.

PRIVATE THREADS

1-In private threads, get permission to enter before doing so if you wish to join.

2-State at the beginning in ((double brackets)) who is in it, and if applicable, who is DMing it.

3-If the location is permanent it should state the location in the title. (Example: Black Dragon Gambling Den: Table #3)

4-If the location is changing, it should state the nature of the thread in the title. (Examples: A Walk Down the Beach; The Fight Outside the Bar)

EXCEPTIONS: Rules 3 and 4 are not applicable for threads devoted to: quests, fights, and OoC conversation

QUESTS

Definition of a quest for use in this forum: A role-playing scenario where any amount of characters are attempting to reach accomplish a goal. (Examples: Killing a bounty, retrieving an object of untold power, going grocery shopping.)

1-All quests must have a DM.

2-In the first post, in ((double brackets)), the characters in the quest and the DM (or DMs) should be listed.

3-If you wish to be in a quest, you must recieve permission from the DM and/or founder.

4-Name the quest appropriately, with a name and number. (Example: Quest #3: The Search for the Golden Carrot)

COMBAT

1-You cannot decide the success of your attacks. Do not write "Jill sucker-punched Jack," write "Jill tried to sucker-punch Jack."

2-Damage is written by the reciever of an attack, not the attacker. This includes injuries, broken weapons, disarming, etc.

3-The goal of combat is NOT to win (usually). The goal is to have an entertaining role play. If your character would lose, then let him lose. Give opponents advantages, and have your character make mistakes when he would/should.

4-Obey the three second rule. Actions made in combat should be no longer than three seconds. This does not include thoughts. Actions and speech are allowed to overlap, so three seconds of action and three seconds of speech are allowed, as long as they occur simultaneously.

5-Not a rule, but just a good idea: read your opponent's character data before fighting. It's good to know what you're up against.

COMMON KNOWLEDGE, UNCOMMON KNOWLEDGE, ETC

This post is to help define the universe the city is based in.

1-Demonslaying is not a valid profession; it exists as an underground trade, know to few.

2-Turning people into cyborgs is a recent development. Same with robots with detailed AI. There are several international companies working on these subjects.

3-There are rumors about the existance of vampires, lycanthropes, mages, psychics, demons, and the undead, but few confirmations.

4-There is a ninja organization in the city, but it is kept secret to the public. Only organized gangs and other influential underground societies know of it.

5-Although laser weaponry has been implemented by the police and military, it is not available to the public.

More will be added as seen fit.

THE CITY

This post is to help define the city itself.

1-The city is a city-state. It has its own government, complete with a court system and military, which doubles as its police force.

2-The common currency is the dollar, equivalent to the American dollar.

3-The city is an island.

4-The city is almost a circle, with a radius of 18 miles.

5-The west and south sides have cliffs, the east side has a beach, and the north side has docks.

6-The government is run by a mayor, which is really like a president. There is also a parlimentary body that acts as a lawmaking body.

7-The area is 10,031 square miles. The population is 16,006,000 people, give or take one-hundred. The pop-density is almost 1,600 people per square mile.

More will be added as seen fit.

EVENTS

To make the RP in this forum a little more interesting, I've decided that every now and then, there will be city-wide events. These events will range from wars to festivals to zombie infestations. (I'm really looking forward to the last one.)

These events will not be announced, and they may effect all threads and characters, depending of the nature of the event, as well as the nature of the previously stated threads and characters.
