Topic: Team-ups, because some characters are cooler in tandem
This is the place to discuss the all-time greatest fantasy teams, duos, etc. What's over-rated, what's new, and what you're doing with them.

To start things up...

If anyone's read some of R.A. Salvatore's stuff, I think he's created one of the coolest duos ever, Jarlaxle and Entreri. I love the way that Entreri does all the work and Jarlaxle gets all the pay-off, the wit of the very colorful and winning drow matched up against the cold sarcasm of the human assassin... They're one of the best teams ever.

Let's see here... The only team I'm working with at the moment, is a pair of complete imbeciles that have won immortality from Death, and sometimes take on the jobs of the other immortals. Sometimes, the only thing better than one idiot, is another idiot that goads the first idiot into doing something more moronic than he would usually do.

Sadly, sounds a little like Bevis and Butthead, but that's just a personal opinion.

Artemis Entreri and Jarlaxle are by far the best suited characters for eachothers. They're so diffrent, yet so similar it's funny. Entreri with his cold, serious standing vurses Jarlaxle's light yet charming ways. They may have disagreements, yet you know Jarlaxle's always going to win out. Would have been even better if Entreri stayed the bad ** he was in the Paths o' Dark and series, instead of hertting all these new uber weapons, and getting such a personality and moral change.

Ah, duos. Duos are a wonderous thing, considering when it just focuses on those two characters, then you see more character developement. Plus, it's how we normally think of our relationships in life: yourself VS another.

There are so many great fantasy duos in anime! Lina Inverse and Gourry (Slayers, my favorite fantasy humor ever in any media), Parn and Deedlit, Ceris and Orin (both duos from Record of the Lodoss War), Sakura and Li (Cardcaptor Sakura), Daisuki and Dark (DNAngel), Reanef and Eclipse (Demon Diary), Ashitaka and San (Princess Mononoke), the Paper and Miss Deep (R.O.D.), Tsuzuki and Kurosaki (Decendants of Darkness)

the list goes on and on! I just chose to stop when I wanted to ho post elsewhere... And, so far, just listed off anime-based duos. Think about all the fantasy video games and books that have awesome duos!

Honestly, I use duos often in terms of showing stregnths and weaknesses off eachother. Opposites attract!

My most recent team is a group of four Smaglins named Llandoworff, Krypsmere, Oapla and Tim, and they are all complete idiots, maybe except for Llandoworff, who has the biggest vocabulary. The problem is, they never realise that what they do is stupid, and don't understand when people yell at them. However, they are the only characters in the entire story who are completely immune to Richard the devil's insults and sarcasm. They don't even know they're being insulted. Or what sarcasm is, for that matter ;D

Although I think the best team in canon works has got to be....the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! xD

Well, I have several devious duos in my book, but I have to say Ginger and Des have to be my favorite. Ginger is erratic and is happy when she makes other people happy. She lives to entertain and to shock, and often will say something completely outrageous just to see how people will react. Maybe the best person for the job is Des, who remains unruffled no matter what is thrown at her and often keeps her distance from people. Ginger considers Des her greatest challenge yet and Des considers Ginger someone she needs to keep in line before she hurts herself. They have a sometimes sadomasochistic relationship, since Des is often moody and pushes away the people around her.

Example:

Des is sitting down, perhaps reading the newspaper or writing in her journal when Ginger plops down next to her and says, "I'm going to make out with your sister tomorrow. Any advice?"

Unruffled, Des continues reading/writing and without looking up she says: "Don't miss?"

Ginger: Damn it! You're good.

Des: Thanks. You have a spider in your hair.

Ginger: WHAT?! Where! GetitoffGetItOff!

Des: Sorry. I lied. It's a bee.

Ginger: ...that's a lie too, isn't it!

Des: Whatever you say. I'm not the one with a beetle in my hair.

Ah, those are the teams I love. The teams where each character brings out the shine in the other's perasonality.

I like some teams from my historical stories:

Niklas and Ilse, who are very different but have a beautiful relationship

Noel and Natalya, who have three seperate love stories in different AUs surrounding the result of ww2.

And fantasy: Kali and Amyena at the moment. Not so much a team, because they're competing, but Amyena isn't competitive and manages to fall in love with Kali.

out of my own work... the twins, Kirin and Nirik (not their real names btw) They're such polar opposites of each other: Kirin is opinionated, outgoing and an optimist, whereas Nirik is exceptionally calm and its really hard to work out what he's thinking, except that its probably the worst that can happen.

But they work so well together and I love them.

If anything I believe that Jack Sparrow and Will Turner are the best Taeam up ever. So much so that I have based my duo on them. Iria and Zonra.
