![]() Come and share with us what your favorite suppernatural creature is and why. Mine personally is vampires obivously, and i love them cause their amazingly awsome, hopefully you all can come up with better reasons. 3/31/2008 #1 |
![]() I personally prefer the demon/devil because they have so much potential in a story, between the villian, the obsticle, the hero and pretty much anything you can think of, they have the potential to be given any abilities you want because they're not always from our world. Half-demons are just as cool. 4/21/2008 #2 |
![]() I agree Vampires rock, they are the best supernatural creature ever. They are the best because they are immortal and in every story they are extraordinarily HOT! I also like all the super powers they can have. I don't particularily like the drinking blood thing but as long as there are good vampires who don't kill people I am fine with them. 4/27/2008 #3 |
![]() My favorite supernatural creature, eh? Hmm...that's a tough one. I'm in love with the mythology surrounding Vampires and the many novels surrounding them (Read Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles if you haven't already; epic times) but at the same level I can't say there's a demon I've seen I haven't thought was bloody awesome. ....What can I tell you? I'm an Anime fangirl and an avid Darren Shan/ Anne Rice/ Stephanie Meyer reader to boot; there's not much I don't like anymore :) I like the idea that they can be both lordly and powerful, destructive and bloodthirsty in the same persona best I think; it gives an interesting plot dynamic. 4/28/2008 #4 |
![]() The Spring Heeled Jack of London Folklore/Urban Legend has always snagged my interest. He's allegedly somewhere in between a demon and a vampire, but simply wreaks havoc for the fun of it. I wrote a story about him in a modernized context but overall it's nothing compared to the source material (more light hearted) but if you ever get bored look it up on Wikipedia, definitely an interesting read. 6/11/2008 #5 |
![]() I have to say vampire because they aren't the smash and bash type (usually). They are ellegant and have somewhat some type of humanity that no ther creature could match 6/16/2008 #6 |
![]() Mine are vampires and my own 'air bourne' characters. Vampires are just AMAZING!! I do love you know speed strength blah blah, aah my vampires are great . . . sorry, -shakes head-. Air bourne are people you can manipulate, telekinisis (I can't spell), teleportation etc . . . yes love love 6/21/2008 #7 |
![]() My favorite supernatural creature would have to be the kappa. Kappa are these water creatures, about the size of a child, that lives in the river. They look like humanoid turtles. On top of their heads is a little indentation, like a tiny bowl, that is filled with water from their river. They get their strength and power from their river water so this little dent in their head lets them take their water with them. (To rob them of this power all you have to do is bow in front of them; when they bow back they spill their water!) Like most fairies and imps, these guys are rambunctious. They steal trinkets or pass gas all the time. But they also grab children who swim in the river. They grab them and drown them in the water. This is probably something like a bogeyman story used to scare kids away from playing in a dangerous river but it's still kinda horrible. Turtle-people in the river drowning children? I think I like them so much because they remind me of the Koopa Troopas from Super Mario Brothers. And I'm a big fan of turtles. 7/22/2008 #8 |
![]() Yeah a kappa sounds pretty cool... I've never heard of them before though 2/10/2009 #9 |
![]() My favorite is the werewolf. It appeals to the basic instinct of human nature, the natural power of sin; or so to speak. I think it's awesome! It's raw power and instinct compared to the unknown element that vampires and other such creatures hold. I feel like a werewolf is more of a realistic concept to grasp than a vampire or demon. That's my favorite. =] Hope to hear others. 3/08/2009 #10 |
![]() Yes, the unknown, elegant elements is rather unappealing to me as well. Werewolves even have a broader spectrum, vampires are rather shallow. Go werewolves, it does show what the ins of temptation and aggression can bring. 3/13/2009 #11 |
![]() Yes, this is very true, I've just never been keen on the brooding state vampires have been described in during most of the books I've read. Hey, thanks for agreeing with me, one of the first. =] go werewolves! 3/13/2009 #12 |
![]() Yes, go werewolves! And vampires...popular culture as really done a number on them, poor guys. 3/14/2009 #13 |
![]() I know. Makes one feel bad for them. 3/14/2009 #14 |
![]() Yup, especially the whole sparkling thing...OH GOD *shudders*. That was a major turn off for the Twilight series! 3/14/2009 #15 |
![]() I know. Where did that come from anyway, I've never heard that vampires 'glitter' in any old folklore. Haha. 3/14/2009 #16 |
![]() Lol, I know Meyer needed a reason for vampires to be more nocturnal without the whole them burning in the sun, but that was just a little odd. 3/15/2009 #17 |
![]() Haha. I agree. I think I would have preferred the whole 'burning in the sun' thing over the whole 'im glittering' thing. But, I don't know, just not my thing. 3/15/2009 #18 |
![]() I happen to be recently into devils and angels, or at least my own personal twist on them. When I write about devil or angels I write about them from the human point of view. Not the religious as you might see most of the time. In my view devil are no more evil then we humans are, and angels are no more our moral betters then a pottato would be. I could go on and on but I won't 3/20/2009 #19 |
![]() My favorite supernatural creature would have to be the werewolf. I love vampires, don't get me wrong, but there are just too many situations with them. Werewolves aren't even used in stories anymore. Its sad sometimes when you only come across vampire stories. The only few I have seen are at least five! Plus, werewolves are in touch with their inner self and with the world around them. They prefer to be around forests or anywhere that's revolved around life. I find them much more realistic than vampires. Vampires just seem so dull sometimes, while werewolves bring life into everything they do. 3/20/2009 #20 |
![]() Thank you bluesnikkers, you really put a nice spin on it. Glad I'm not the only one who likes werewolves for that reason. =] 3/21/2009 #21 |
![]() Your welcome Deanna-Marie! Its good to know that at least someone agrees with me. Sometimes people just don't see things the same way, so you feel pretty much different. You sometimes wish and beg to find someone with the same views. Then finally, out of the blue, someone comes along with those same thoughts. 3/22/2009 #22 |
![]() This is very true, thank you again bluesnikkers! 3/23/2009 #23 |
![]() Don't sweat it Deanna-Marie! 3/23/2009 #24 |
![]() Yet another one. Thank you, bluesnikkers and Deanna-Marie for showing me I'm not the only one. Werewolves jsut seem to have so much more to them, while all I've seen from vampires is humans with a favorable disposition for blood and superhuman abilities. What's so exciting about that? Werewolves are jsut so different and unique, they are truly their own species. 3/29/2009 #25 |
![]() Werewolves aren't even used in stories anymore. That's not exactly true. I've got several werewolf novels. Keri Arthur has a series. Kelly Armstrong, Kim Harrison has werewolves but most of the time they aren't main characters. Maybe you have to have a first name that starts with K to write werewolves in your stories. I have one book in my TBR pile called Dancing With Werewolves by Carole Nelson Douglas. I'm tempted to read it soon. I've got about 6 books I'm reading at the moment. I think one book all aspiring writers should read is by Janet Evanovich called How I Write. I've picked some really good tips and inspiration from it. 4/05/2009 #26 |
![]() I have a thing for vampires, they have that whole dark and mysterious. And most of them are bad boys, and I am a sucker for bad boys, pun not intended. I love most vampire fiction, although there are a few exceptions, and a few myths I don't particularily go for. 4/11/2009 #27 |
![]() I don't know. I guess if you like the whole dark, brooding, and mysterious aspect vampires can work for you, but there isn't much going for them since popular culture has ruined their reputation, IMHO. 4/14/2009 #28 |
![]() I have to say that I like vampires, although some of the myths do bother me. Especially the whole religious objectthing, if the vampire isn't of that religion, would the religious object work on them? I also like werwolves, to me they have a connection with nature that humans will never have. But liking them does not make them my favorite. My favorite at this moment are demons. Although I don't mean the demons of Christian persuasion. My theory on demons is that they were not created by Lucifer. I actually have a story out about demons, although it's a constant work in progress. It shows a demonic society, complete with a hierarchy. There are vampires in it as well. But they are not your typical vampires either. I know this is a shameless plug, but it helps explain my favorite supernatural creature. But yea, demons are definitely my favorite, because in the end, they can be anything you want. And I don't buy into the demons are there to tempt humans, we do that enough on our own. I see them as this separate parallel society. 4/17/2009 #29 |
![]() Its okay Hellion everyone loves shameless plugs and if you want to you can go ahead and put it on the suppernatural story thread thing i have on this forum and it'll most definitly be put on my never ending list of things i need to R&R but yeah it sounds real interesting. And everyone thanks for you comments and stuff on this forum, I love to hear what all you guys have to say and you know its pretty cool to own forum #7 on the list of forums... but yeah keep it up. 4/17/2009 #30 |
