Imalefty@ frac - yes. :) -Lefty |
Fractured IllusionOkay, Lefty, can you make a prototype rule about this so we can have it nice and done if no better choices are given? |
ImaleftyRULE ON BANNING: We at the RG want to focus our attention on playing the RG. However, there are unfortunate times where participants step out of line. It is in these instances that we must take action. You can be banned for: Excessive spamming Vulgar/Dirty language Ignoring direct requests from moderators (frac, feel free to add more) If you are banned, you will not be re-admitted into the Review Game forum until you fulfill these criteria: 1) You will have stepped up in rank (ie... from newbie to apprentice). 2) You will write a "reflection" on the behavior that caused you to be banned and include a brief summary as to what you will do differently in the future. 3) You will PM the reflection to Imalefty, who will also forward it to Fractured Illusion. They will judge your reflection and determine whether or not you are fit to return to the Review Game forum. If, upon return to the Review Game forum, the offensive behavior continues, you will be banned indefinitely. We here at the RG are forgiving, but we're not idiots. feel free to edit this, frac. :) -Lefty |
Silv3rDr34mSjust a thought on this banning issue: how about once the ban is lifted on a member, they go through a probation period? After all, the "reflection" can be candy coated pretty easily and sarcasm is difficult to catch over the internet. And for the record, I don't know how this probation period thing will work...yea or nay? |
Fractured Illusion@Lefty I like :D Though I think we need to add to the "Things you can be banned for" category a reservation for the right to ban people for other reasons, should we find it necessary. In case we see something bad happening later on that wasnt brought up @Lime Basically, the entire period after being let back is probation period. If we had to go as far as to ban them, they were clearly a pain in the a§§, and we don't want to deal with reprimanding them no more if they cant behave after coming back. Then they're just not worth it. |
KylloracThe new rule is very clear, but I think you need a provision for those people who are already at highest rank. Maybe setting the ban period to a maximum of 12 months for those people would be appropriate? |
Fractured IllusionFanatic and Fan will have a one year deal then. I think this is good. And since no one is commenting on the manga issue, I think we can say no manga is allowed in the Rec Reading. Lefty, please state this in the first post (your topic and all :) ) |
Imaleftyokay, everything sounds good. we have a 12 month max ban on people, and we reserve the right to ban people for anything we find is offensive or ban-worthy. (a few will be listed for reference) off to change the recommended reading... :) -Lefty |
Dexteritya suggestion about the new banning rule is it ok if frac or lefty warn us before banning? it gives us a chance to change our behavior before it results in a ban. |
Imaleftyyes - we will definitely tell you when you're out of line (we did it with onar at least two or three times... XD). if, after that, you persist... then... BAN!! -Lefty |
Dexterityalrighties. thanks for the clarification. yeah, onar was warned quite a number of times XD |
Fractured IllusionWhere shall I add this rule of banning? |
Fractured Illusion@New Sug: POLL! Well, what of the next poll? |
Imaleftyuhhh... where to add... i'm kind of afraid no one reads the "read this first!" post, so... T_T i'm not really sure. -Lefty |
Fractured IllusionUpdate: Punishment-section in Read This First! have been greatly modified. @Poll Helloooo? ANYONE with a sug suggestion? :O |
Fractured IllusionWell if no one is gonna contribute to poll suggestions, here are mine! 1. If your head had to be in the shape of a vegeatable, what would it be? 2. If your hands had to be in the shape of animal paws, which type would it be? 3. You've just been pulled over by a cop for a broken taillight. You're really broke and have no intention on paying. How do you do/act to avoid getting a ticket? 4. If you had Tourettes, which swear word would you prefer to shout? See how sucky they are? This is a result of over-working! T_T Help me someone |
Imaleftyi like the vegetable head one. XD the second one is a little weird... and the third one is a bit... umm... common? fourth would be interesting, but uh... would all of the swear words be censored? XD i guess you'd have to write "the D word" or "the F word." how about... uhhh... if you wrote an autobiography, what would you call it? (i guess this would be hard, since people might want to come up with their own) then how about... if you had to write a biography about frac, what would you call it? (ahahaha... sorry, frac. i had to choose someone from here and you were the first that came to mind) if you had to lose a body part, which would you prefer? and then... i'm still pushing for... if you could meet one person from the RG, who would you meet (and why)? (and in this, we must include reggy) :D i'll think of better ones later. -Lefty |
Fractured Illusionand then... i'm still pushing for... if you could meet one person from the RG, who would you meet (and why)? (and in this, we must include reggy) Oh my god... Fine! We shall have this silly, SILLY poll then. But you shall construct the answers :p har har |
simpleplan13School is over.. I intend to be alive again.... so I would like to be an examinator for this month's RM |
Fractured IllusionFantastic! You're hired! :3 |
simpleplan13That's because I'm such an awesome examinator (or because Im the only one who applied...lol) |
Imaleftyokay, here we go... :\ i'm sorry if i miss anyone! T_T If you could meet ONE person from the RG forum, who would you want to meet (and why)? Frac Lefty Reggy Mini Ting tong Jelly Lime Jesse Dex Dragonflydreamr (what's her nick? O.o?) Kylie Era Lucy (where HAS lucy been, by the way...?) Millie Bliss Rassy (or is it... rassie?) Esther Jade Monk? (is she still here?) uhhh... REALLY sorry if i missed anyone. will add you on if you tell me. :D -Lefty | #1072 May 17th, 4:09pm . Edited May 17th, 4:13pm
Imaleftyshould we include a poll on the RM topic that asks whether or not people actually read the rules before playing? or is that too much to handle? XD -Lefty |
Fractured IllusionNew poll! Any suggestions? Should we pick something stated before? Previous suggestions: 1. 4. If you had Tourettes, which swear word would you prefer to shout? if you wrote an autobiography, what would you call it? (i guess this would be hard, since people might want to come up with their own) then how about... if you had to write a biography about frac, what would you call it? (ahahaha... sorry, frac. i had to choose someone from here and you were the first that came to mind) if you had to lose a body part, which would you prefer? if you could be any of the off topics, which would you be? PICK AND CHOOSE! | #1074 May 23rd, 3:08am . Edited May 23rd, 3:38am
Silv3rDr34mSI vote for the veggie head and body part (for it's potential gruesomeness). SUG: body part question! for the body part, name a body part and include the gruesome story about how you lost it! ^_^ |
Fractured IllusionWait, should I include different situations of how you lose the body part or should everyone think one up themselves? (and thanks for coming! Off Topic is safe...for now!) |
Silv3rDr34mShm...i think you should include diff situations of how you would lose the body part...the more gruesome, the more difficult the poll. lol. (Off Topic will NEVER be safe! it ish doomed! *probably*) |
angel953biography about FRAC [i have evil plans for this mwahahaha] |
Fractured IllusionNooooes, not a biography about me! T_T I don't even know why my chosen one wrote me there @Lime Okay, give me a few teasers of how it would look like! |
Silv3rDr34mSok...i'll start of with a fracism inspired one from 30 minutes ago: the head. *ahem* You home has a rat infestation and all the food in the house has already been eaten. One day, you slip into a semi-comatose state at home in your comfy bed and over the course of one month, the rats slowly gnaw/eat your neck away, decapitating your head. You never fully knew what hit you, but you felt the pain of all the gnawing, bite after bite. | #1080 May 23rd, 9:41am . Edited May 23rd, 9:47am
Arianna SterlingI gotta go with the body part. |
Silv3rDr34mSif you don't like that for the head, it can be done with other body parts as well....you'll just be alive to figure it out. |
Fractured Illusion@Lime Me likey! Lets roll with this one. I can't find inspiration to think of other possible decapitations (trying to finish the essay) but everyone else is more than welcome to! |
MercyetteHey, I hate to interrupt the poll question debate, lol, but I have a suggestion on how to modefy the Review Marathon so that it's a little more fair/competitive. What if we were to have a Review Marathon for stories and a separate one for Poems. That way, when RM time comes around, people won't be able to be sneaky with reviewing poems while others might review stories. Also, we could have the Poem RM at a different date, that way if someone was unable to participate in the last RM, they wouldn't have to wait an entire month...Just a thought. |
Fractured Illusionwe've already had a HUGE debate about this two or three marathons ago. It was eventually shot down. Basically, it is reviews we count and not the format of which we review. And having two separate RMs only creates a big pain in the butt for examinators (you may not know this, but it is VERY demanding being examinator. I am always examinator, along with simpleplan). If we had to do it twice, I'd be going crazy. So, that's a no :p |
Imaleftyokay! so here i am with my suggestion about categories of RMs... we will still have 1 RM a month, but each month will switch categories. say next month, june, is an "RM story" month. then the month after, july, will be an "RM poem" month. we can also have an "RM both" month in which you can review both stories and poems. for an RM story month, you can still review poems - it's just that the majority of your reviews have to be from stories... so in order to win the RM story, more than half of your COUNTED reviews have to be for stories. for example... say you accumulated 100 reviews. 55 of them were stories and 45 of them were poems. all of them qualified. then, you could be the winner of an RM story month. BUT, if, after the examination, only 40 of the story reviews counted and all of the poem reviews counted, then you wouldn't qualify for RM story. (is this too complicated so far?) it would be the same with RM poem, just with poems instead. we could have the contestants say if the review was for a story or poem to save time for the examinators. anyway, hopefully we can get something like this to work. ^^; let me know what you think. -Lefty |
Fractured IllusionI could accept the switch of focus for different RMs since they are still only one per month. for an RM story month, you can still review poems - it's just that the majority of your reviews have to be from stories... so in order to win the RM story, more than half of your COUNTED reviews have to be for stories. This could be done in an easy manner too, I just figured! People have to divide their list in their registration post! One story list and one poem list during the RMs for specific categories. Ie: Poems: Lalala [3 pts] Woosh [5 pts] Stories: Hummm [1 pt] --- You get it right? :p I like that stories can be reviewed, and count!, for RM Poems, just that the main review love will go to poems, and vice versa for RM Stories. How does everyone else feel about this? Is RM Both needed if we choose this? Should we be allowed to review stories during RM Poem and vice versa? I think your sug was well thought out, FYI, Lefty :p AS EXPECTED OF MY CHOSEN ONE! More specific question though: Do I change the title of Review Marathon to Review Marathon: Poem when its due, etc? | #1087 May 27th, 10:35am . Edited May 27th, 10:36am
simpleplan13I just want to say, this idea is probably the best we have for doing the RM, but it might be confusing to people and its another thing us as examinators have to check for. Also, the participation this month was already less this month. Might this make people not participate in certain ones. (For exmaple I won't do stories 'cause I don't review stories 'cause I have no idea how or what to say) Also to Merc (I duno what your real nickname is) Reviewing mostly poems is not "sneaky" plenty of poems have more words than short stories. I reveiwed basically all poems because that's what I write and know. I've never written fiction so I dont think that I can give ppl writing fiction a review that would help them. Plus, everyone has the option of reviewing whatever they want, so its not sneaky if everyone as the opportunity. If you think reviewing all poems is easier than you should've done that. |
Fractured IllusionTo anyone that wish to modify Lefty's suggestion, here's what I won't allow: - several RMs per month - different point system depending on words/type of writing/etc (ie, 1 pt for Stories, 1/2 pt for Poems OR 1pt for +300 words, 1/2pt for -300 words) - rewarding laziness |
simpleplan13Actually I was thinking and awhile back we mentioned doing this, but having poems count twice as much in one month and then stories count twice as much in another. Would that maybe be less complicated than having to make sure a majority of the things we do (and that are actually counted) is one or the other... especially since its hard to tell sometimes what will be counted at what wont |
simpleplan13Well I typed that before I saw your rules.. lol, but why is that not feasible? The half point (or 2 points for easier math) if people section out which is which? |
Fractured IllusionMini brings up an interesting point in that we already have few participants. However, it might bring forth participants too, that feel like they don't have a chance in comparison to those that review poems. So maybe it's not a complete lose-lose situation? But would you still not participate in the RM Story, even if the poems count? (to win, you just have to have one more story than poem. Assuming you have to win and all hah) |
Fractured IllusionWell I typed that before I saw your rules.. lol, but why is that not feasible? The half point (or 2 points for easier math) if people section out which is which? We already had such a suggestion and it was shot down. I was hoping this time we wouldn't go through old suggestion, but rather, make newer better ones I am willing to change on that nr 2 standpoint though, if I get a good suggestion (but it better be good!) |
Hed in the CloudzMy issue with a division between the two is that it's already hard enough to find short stories to review, or pieces in general that sound interesting enough to slug through. Thus, having a RM for just (or, technically, mostly) one of the two would make it take longer to find stories (stories in particular because half the people on the site don't mark their poems as poems) and thus give a decided advantage to anyone who went searching ahead of time (which is something that you can't prove). |
Imaleftywow, what a great stragegy. XD everyone can go searching ahead of time... so technically it's not unfair... XD -Lefty |
Hed in the CloudzIt's not unfair now (because all stories published on fictionpress are fair game) but if there was a RM just for stories, then it would verge on being unfair, because it's so hard to find stories sometimes (about 100 or so reviews in). But then, maybe I'm just crap at finding things to review! I do have the attention span of a squirrel... |
Fractured IllusionAh, everybody goes hating on Stories, wrryyy? Ok, seriously though, its a good point to consider: The trouble of finding good stories you can read. How do we overcome this? It is not forbidden to search stories ahead of time, so I guess people can do that? I dunno really. I havent thought of it... What are everyone's thoughts? Edit: haha I just thought that RG could have a RM C2 in which short stories are collected ^^; But that would be rewarding laziness!!! Bad, Frac! BAD! | #1097 May 27th, 11:18am . Edited May 27th, 11:20am
Imaleftyaww, i like stories. :) okay, yes, i had that trouble, too. there are techniques to finding the good short stories... (using the "search" feature, for one) so maybe the RM will ACTUALLY TAKE SOME SKILL!!! O_O what a phenom. XD it would be nice to have an RM c2... but i feel that those stories would get a ton of reviews... XD we need to spread the love. -Lefty |
Fractured IllusionWell, if RM has a C2, everyone who is a participant will be "staff" and add in stories if they want to that they feel should get some more love? Or what? Anyhow the staff would be temporary (aside from you and I) and change with each RM. I dont really know what to do with the C2 though...would it advertise short stories? Quality? Quality + short? |
Imaleftygah, i don't know. T_T maybe quality + short CHAPTERS. XD so it could be a multi chap story. -Lefty |
