MindwarpTopic: The Isalnd of Terra The Island of Terra: The one true neutral location in the world. Here, in ancient towers protected by powerful magic, the diplomats of the many nations and groups meet together. Here alliances are forged, wars are declared, deals are made.((This is the central zone for nations and groups to meet and interact through diplomats. Access and messages can be cut off, but anything more then a lone assassin is restricted on the island itself.)) |

Mindwarp[Ambassador's lodgings, hallway.]Mathias grumbled to himself as he marched down the marble hallways. As ambassador for the King of the Isles his job was far from an easy one. It seemed simple: keep as many trading partners open as possible, and stay impartial. Unfortunately that was nearly impossible in itself. The crafty merchants from back home were always looking for ways to make a profit and making his job difficult. On top of that he had to stay out of any squabbles the other nations got into. He shook his head to get the thoughts out and opened the door to his room. It was certainly luxurious, extravagantly so. The bed was soft, made of feathers probably, and silk curtains covered the windows. Mathias laughed to himself for a moment, his brown hair waving as he did so. At least the accommodations were good! | #2 Dec 05th 2007, 8:31pm . Edited Dec 05th 2007, 8:53pm

awilla the hun(Open air, outdoors. Outside the rakarskian embassy.)Anthony Grumman was thinking as he stepped out into the bright sunlight of the isles. He was a merchant; a good man, chosen for his ingenuity and business sense, which was rare in a centralized economy such as Rakarskia. But trade had to spread abroard, so this was when men such as Grumman came in. His branch of The Rakarskian metal works was as profitable as any, and so he was ostensibly here just to broker deals. He bought a pie from a passing vendor, thanked the man and kept walking. But the other reason that he was here was far less honourable. For Anthony Grumman was not just a merchant, but also an inquisitor. He had been in what was known as "deep cover", had been the merchant for years, and had a second mission, also. And that mission had everything to do with trade, but not in terms of buying and selling... |

Lavie[Sevian Embassy]Toran woke from a dreamless sleep, to his spartan accomidations. Slowly he rose from his cot and put on his "ambassadorial robes", which was actually a full military uniform. From there he left the embassy and left to wander around the island. | #4 Dec 06th 2007, 8:50am . Edited Dec 06th 2007, 8:50am

Andrew Keith((From inside the Kaleon embassy.))Renold Barlow dawned his dark brown and finely white-embroidered robes inside his room and ran his hand over his balding scalp. He was an old fellow, just over sixty winters in age. He was also a rather wide man, enjoying his life as superbly-paid diplomat. Satisfied with himself, he made his way outside and onto the road. On the lawn of the embassy was a medium sized pavilion, and inside were samples and small peices from the artisans and exports Kaleo offers. One large table was covered with exotic fruits and vegetables, as well as the farming tools the Kaleon farmers have developed to cultivate these agricultural products. On another table there were ingots of steel, iron, a few of silver, and a few of obsidian. The iron and steel are common from Kaleo, and the silver is found in sparse but large queries across the nation. The obsidian, however, is made by Barlow's granddaughter, Lorne's daughter Avaliss. Smiling at the ingots, he walked to behind the table and opened a sack at his side, drawing out a few small idols and statues of random animals and trees, all made out of obsidian. There was one of a gallant stallion, neighing/bucking on its hind legs (don't know the word), and another of a panther atop of a boulder, surveying the 'area' regally. The third and final one was of a grand large oak tree, each and every branch and leaf detailed and separate. He placed them next to each other on the opposite side of the table and stood behind along with several aides, taking in trade negotiation paperwork for Barlow and the king to review later. |
Lavie[Outdoors]Toran looked to the man that had spoken to him, and replied in level voice. "Enjoying the scenery." |
Mindwarp[Outdoors]Mathias exited the building carefully, deciding a walk would do him good. Then he saw several of the other ambassadors standing around. In particular, one was wearing a Sevian uniform, and the other looked like a strange old man, the Rakarskian envoy. He didn't know much about them, but they kept trying to compete with the archipelago's merchants. Perhaps this was a good opportunity to find out more. "Good day Sir." He said, keeping his voice calm and level. Being happy and overly friendly didn't strike him as a good idea, not with a Sevian. |
LavieYet another man walked up to him, this one obviously from the Archipeleago. In reply Toran nodded as he said said, once agian in a level voice, "And the same to you." |
Andrew KeithBeginning to notice the congregation, Barlow ordered an aide to take his place and drew out from his sack a twine-strung, obsidian pendant of a lion's head and mane. Adjusting it over his head, he walked out from behind the table and walked over to the ambassadors. Giving a polite bow he held his hands together before him. "Greetings, gentlemen. How are your days coming along?" He asked, trying to remain equally calm. | #10 Dec 06th 2007, 5:10pm

Mindwarp'Great, it's a party' Mathias thought, annoyed. Well he wasn't here to talk stoicly with a few diplomats. He needed something to poke at the Rakaskian, something that would tell Mathias about them as a people. With that in mind he spoke in his best business voice, not actively addressing any specific person. "I have heard that Sevia is always looking to import foodstuffs and military equipment." Andrew Keith"Oh, none at all. We're fine with handling them as is, it's just they always run far from our borders and remain gone for a while, then sneak their way back in through the mountains. LavieToran's anger flared once agian, and he did as he had done before and suppresed it. ~Hmp, a Sevian army could permenatly take care of the problem.~ he thought even as he said, "What about agriculture?"| #19 Dec 06th 2007, 5:37pm

Girlbrainiac[Outside the Sarbryn "embassy" which is really only a three bedroom apartment]Sir Tunsten sighed as he tugged at the collar of his robe of state. HOW had he gotten himself into this mess? He remembered how... He had missed an important meeting and the other members of the council, in his abscence, had decided that he was the best man for the job. So here he was, far from home, inhabiting a house with a nutty old wizard and a brown-nosing little snip named Tarlyn that acted as his aide, advisor, encyclopedia, and personal pain in the neck. The nobleman had no idea why Sarbryn even bothered to send ambassadors here. At best, he would be ignored. At worst, some big country might be reminded that Sarbryn existed and would invade the city. It would be one hell of a fight, but there was very little doubt in the councilor's mind who would likely win THAT battle. He walked listlessly along the avenues for a bit, but paused when he saw a few of the other ambassadors talking. Quietly he joined the group and listened in. | #29 Dec 06th 2007, 8:23pm

awilla the hun"My company makes all manner of things, comrade!" Grumman called, panting slightly as he ran towards the military looking fellow. "Tin cans. Tin plates. Anything, so long as it's tin or pocket watches! Maybe even machine parts, who knows? Anyway, I will be willing to sell tin cans- they're food packaging, helps foodstuffs keep," he added.| #30 Dec 07th 2007, 5:57am
Mindwarp"I can't speak for our merchants, but I assure you I can get you a very low price, I have some... connections in the area." Mathias said smoothly. His mind was on the Rakarskian. Tin, he wanted to sell tin of all things. Apparently they made cans out of it and stored food in them. Well they weren't trying to shove the islanders out of the job, more like they were trying to sell their own goods. And if it really did help food keep fresh they would /certainly/ be useful. Time to shift the conversation, Mathias thought. "Those pirates will make things difficult as usual." He hazarded, trying to fit it into the conversation. "Fortunately our patrols have been keeping them off our trade routes, and once the navy closes in we won't have a problem." | #31 Dec 07th 2007, 6:30am
GirlbrainiacAt the mention of pirates, Sir Tunsten let out a small groan. There had been some complaints by the merchants coming into port. Luckily, however, the Sarbrynese had had a bit less trouble than the other nations had had, as far as he could tell. Many of the Sarbrynese merchant vessels employed wizards to keep the ships safe. Some pirate vessels had been totally incinerated the moment they got close. Others had just turned tail and ran. | #32 Dec 07th 2007, 6:55am
awilla the hun"Ah, we have a solution to that one, comrade," Grumman replied. "Have you heard of the term Q ship? No? Well, it's very simple. You take a merchant ship. Then, you hide guns on its decks, covering them up with cloth, that sort of thing. The pirate comes, they pretend to surrender, the pirate closes and then they fire! I'm no expert, of course, but I would reckon that those nasty little toys should keep them back, eh? Anyway, what sort of price would you consider, comrade, for a batch of five hundred cans? It's around five dollars to one of your coins, I think."| #33 Dec 07th 2007, 7:40am
Andrew Keith"Our ships travel fast enough to remain safely away from pirates, usually. However, they do have catapults to keep them back." Barlow stated at Grumman's explanation."However, our merchant ships will be equipped with some of your Rakarskian cannons soon, I presume, with your factory in our lands. | #34 Dec 07th 2007, 8:55am
awilla the hun"Yes. It is only a small factory, but providing that you give it sufficient raw materials and keep paying us, we will provide the guns in return," Grumman said. Of course, the factory was providing guns, but it was only going to be providing comparitively old fashioned artillery. Better than the Kaleon guns, but weak compared to Rakarskian pieces. Other nations were not entirely trusted ye, it seemed.| #35 Dec 07th 2007, 9:24am

GirlbrainiacTunsten spoke up for the first time. "I'd have to agree. Many of our merchant ships hire wizards aboard and I've gotten very few complaints of pirates."| #37 Dec 07th 2007, 10:22am
Andrew Keith"Some of our ships have mages aboard, but they're not designated by our Lord, rather mercenaries of sorts." Barlow commented. 'A combination of the two is much preferred,' Barlow thought to himself. | #38 Dec 07th 2007, 10:40am

MindwarpThis conversation, Mathias thought, is getting very interesting. The archipelago had seen cannons, but never acquired them. Most ships were outfitted with Balistaes and catapults, or even Trebuches on siege barges. Greek fire made most of these weapons highly effective, but the prospect of something that could cause another ship to explode was... enticing, to say the least. Magic was along a similar vein, amazingly useful if it could be acquired."These cannons, how do they work?" He asked quizzically, mentally noting down everything for a report later. | #39 Dec 07th 2007, 11:16am
awilla the hun"Fy factory has made a piece or two, so I would know the answer. Ah... well," Grumman said. "you have something called black powder, right? When it is placed into contact with flame, it explodes. Bang! What they do, is put the powder into the back of a long tube, insert a solid iron ball or explosive shell, ignite the powder, and the force of the explosion is channeled down the barrel, blasting out the shot. Then it hits a target and makes a terrible mess. Our soldiers use smaller things- rifles, muskets and pistols- which work on the same principle. But don't mind me. How much for five hundred tin cans? Ten thousand dollars? Twenty? One dollar is equivalent to one gold piece, apparently."| #40 Dec 07th 2007, 12:37pm

Andrew Keith"Yes, quite silly." Barlow commented, with at first no humor but he chuckled a bit after it, as to not seem hostile. "How do you all like art, personally or your citizens as a general whole?" He asked, fumbling with his obsidian pendant momentarily. | #43 Dec 08th 2007, 6:01am

MindwarpMathias had been silent, mulling over the information he had received. "I believe I must go." He said, turning and heading for his room. Once inside he removed a bottle of ink and began witting down everything. He sealed it up in a note and headed down to the docks."This message is for the king only, make sure it is not opened before then." He said, handing it to the captain. "Of course Sir." | #45 Dec 08th 2007, 7:08am

Girlbrainiac"We get all sorts in Sarbryn," Tunsten added. "Some of the most superb illusionists in the world come to study at the University. Many stay."| #46 Dec 08th 2007, 7:10am
awilla the hun"Illusionists? Oh, is that some sort of mage? Well, there isn't much of a market for magical art in Rakarskia, with it being outlawed and all. But I would very much like to see some of these," the inquisitor smiled apologetically.| #47 Dec 08th 2007, 7:13am

Lavie[outside]Toran inched away from the group, Sevia didn't have any art like they think of it. 'Fortresses and magnifient peices of arms and armor is what art is to us.' Toran thought. | #48 Dec 08th 2007, 7:22am

GirlbrainiacTunsten shrugged. "Magicians pay our bills. Without the university, we'd be a little backwoods settlement in the middle of nowhere." He scowled, "And the Archmage doesn't let us forget it."| #49 Dec 08th 2007, 7:29am

awilla the hun"A shame that that fellow couldn't tell us about his artworks," Grumman continuted. "Tell me, who patronizes your painters? Hilarious, that one."| #50 Dec 08th 2007, 7:30am
