awilla the hunTopic: The Zerbian-Rakarskian War OK, well this is where to put information about the conflict, the weapons, the tactics, the generals and the battles in the above conflict. The name will not be changed if more nations take part. The Rakarskian colonial army is currently marching out of Vladmirsgrad, and will take perhaps four days to get to the mountains bordering Rakarskia and Kaleo. The Rakarskian order of battle ran: The 76th Rifles, the 80th and 21st regiments of the line, the 10th Hussars, two batteries of field artillery (7 field guns and three howitzers per battery) and the 96th grenadiers, veterans of the Saitek incident. Rao's troops included at least five hundred elephants, several batteries of brightly decorated cannon, a mass of savage horsemen and numerous groups of variously armed infantry. Et toi? And good night. | #1 Dec 15th 2007, 1:34pm . Edited Dec 16th 2007, 12:05pm

LavieA large Sevian army is gathering at Estanmar. It will only take a day or two for the rest to arrive, though where they are heading and how they are getting there is yet to be determined. |
|
awilla the hunAt the same time, the Fusilliers marched towards the sound of gunfire at Tawpoor. They are backed up by some native artillery guns, and will arrive in perhaps two days. |

Andrew KeithOver Herck, a gyro/helicopter that's mostly just a frame of bars with a steam engine and large propellers took its test flight, but soon went down awkwardly. The pilot managed to land it with minimal bodily harm to himself.Another aircraft took flight, resembling an old WW1 biplane, but with three steam-powered propellers, one on each wing and one at the forefront. It flew around gallantly before coming down for more examination. In the factories, several tanks were coming out with modified and rotating turrets, each with three cannons with a caliber of roughly 20mm. On the broadsides of each tank were three much smaller cannons equal in power to an attached grenade-launcher on an assault rifle. The infantry began forming ranks among the parading grounds, and roughly four thousand already rifle-equipped infantry marched out. 3,500 of them went off to the mountains in the south, setting up posts and ambush points while the last five-hundred fanned out as scouts through the lightly forested region. Five thousand native warriors entered the fortress, waiting to be equipped with simple muskets that the infantry had used prior. Another Fifteen thousand natives, mounted and infantry, gathered up in the region with their blades and bows, ready to follow their friends. | #4 Dec 16th 2007, 10:06am

awilla the hunThe Rakarskian army was now marching, joined by a large band of native mercenaries armed with sword, bow and matchlock. The 10th dragoons sent out cavalry outriders, along with native horsemen. The army was now being slowed by a progressively larger supply train, required to feed all the soldiers, horses and camp followers. The direction of march, however, continued. The five ironclads, the RNS Gallant (Captain Chase), Valiant (Commodore Robertson), Muskovitch (Captain Zukovsky), Lion (Captain Lutherson) and Macara (Captain McCradden), began to steam to the west, at a speed of around twenty knots. They were leviathans. The ZCC ships had demonstrated great mobility, but the Rakarskian vessels more than made up for it in terms of size, and firepower. Each ship had sixty light guns on the broadsides, several large rocket batteries to ward off air attacks, and their colossal turreted cannon. These boats could decimate squadrons of oar powered, wooden warships, or take on large sea creatures. And meanwhile, the declaration of war finally managed to reach the Rakarskian home government. | #5 Dec 16th 2007, 12:03pm . Edited Dec 17th 2007, 11:46am

Andrew KeithThe Zerbian fleet was fully out. Now nine cruisers, four large battleships almost as maneuverable as the cruisers while also nearly as powerful as the Rakarskian ironclads, and four cargo ships outfitted for broadside bombardment. Their hulls were fortified by more armor plating and the decks were strewn with forty guns on each side and twenty on each stern and bow. Inside the fortified cargo area each one had five full-sized artillery pieces on rotating platforms, with lookouts on deck to command each one's aim.The fully armed Zerbian infantry marched out of the settlement. Fifteen-thousand rifle-armed and armored elves with two thousand musket-armed natives added on in front. Behind them came twenty large tanks with the three-cannon turrets mounted on. They split and flanked the infantry, and a final, much larger tank with a five-cannon turret pulled behind them for the general. Two large bomber planes took off and made their way east, heading for the mountain chain to then follow toward Rakarskia, while also searching for an army of theirs. Five more of the new and smaller planes were at the ready on the air strip, highly maneuverable and well armed with two simple yet powerful, and rather fast semi-automatic cannons. Each plane held 100 hundreds for their cannons, and had a second gunner seat with a rifle and plenty of rounds of ammo. In the factories, more tanks and planes were being produced. | #6 Dec 16th 2007, 12:19pm

awilla the hun((This will be a pretty damned destructive engagement. The ZCC seem to have more firepower, but the Rakarskians have commissars to force them to weather any kind of hell thrown at them, and keep shooting back. The naval battle which probably is going to come up will be just epic! Five leviathan ironclads, steaming forward with all guns blazing away, against twice their number of smaller boats. If another nation, with their wooden ships, tries to join in...))Good night. The Rakarskians kept matching on, as they began to apporoach the mountain passes leading into Kaleo. Andrew Keith((The four battleships are nearly as big as the Rakarskian leviathans, and the cargo ships are just as large if not larger than the leviathans. Hehe.))Kaleon sentry towers spotted the army approached and immediately sent riders to them, demanding to know what are they doing. Meanwhile, the two bomber planes following the mountain range spotted the army heading into the pass and turned heading. The two semi-automatic 25mm cannons on each plane opened fire at them. The first conflict after the initial shootout had begun. The natives back at Herck mobilized north of the main elven army, deeper into the woods, camouflaged and ready to ambush. Fourteen thousand of them. The other one thousand calvary moved farther south along heavy forests toward Kaleo's plains. They stood on look out, awaiting to see any Rakarskian forces. |

awilla the hunBrigadier Robertson only just heard the drone of engines above the noise of marching boots and military bands. What were they...Colonel Morgan was already unslinging his rifle. "Aircraft, comrade Brigadier," he said. "Saw them over that Zerbian place. PREPARE TO ENGAGE THE ENEMY!!" This was to the columns of troops, who were still in their marching column. The aircraft dived and opened fire. The troops dived for cover, as bullets tore up the wide mountain pass. Rifles cracked in response, as the 76th's sharpshooters tried to down the planes with their long ranged shots. The Rakarskian army had fought dragons in its time, but the planes were both faster and smaller. Several men fell. An elephant stampeded through a native regiment, crushing scores of them. General Rao shouted something in his native language, and the rocket batteries were unlimbered. As the aircraft completed their attack run, the batteries opened fire. The rockets were quick to load and fire, individually innaccurate, but utterly indiscriminate. They were fired in huge, shrieking barrages, which climbed to the height of the aircraft. ((Please let some of the rockets hit. And wont having warplanes going over Kaleon territory be offensive?)) ((The sea)) The ironclads steamed on. Commodore Robertson looked out through his telescope to find the enemy ships. It was a calm, clear day. Which, as many a survivor was to comment afterwards, just goes to show. ((Military issues: How did the Zerbians co ordinate all their troops over such a massive area? What kind of scale is this thing operating on? You have shown no evidence of a Zerbian military radio system, and they lack magic, so how are they going to co ordinate all those troops over most of a small country?)) | #11 Dec 17th 2007, 9:30am . Andrew Keith((Messengers over time and a council with the leaders. Also, the natives already knew the geography and could suggest strategies. Also, they traveled straight east from Herck and then followed the mountain chain southward, so they really didn't enter Kaleon airspace.)) The pilots in the closer plane were hit by bullets as well as the plane was ripped apart by the rockets and immediately went down into the mountains. The other took a few hits and lost some of the crewmen and some control in the tail section, but managed to stay in flight. However, both planes were able to drop some of their payload, the one that was shot down dropped a two 50-pound bombs and the second dropped five before turning away. --The sea-- "Load the artillery and prepare to open fire!" The captains of the cargo ships ordered to their soldiers as they spotted the large and approaching ironclads. The battle ships steamed and took positions in between but ahead of the car go ships and the cruisers took the flanks, the lead two on each side ready for their generic fleet tactic of flanking the opponent with a expedient broadside volley. | #12 Dec 17th 2007, 10:53am

awilla the hunThe cheers of the soldiers were drowned out by the roars of the shells as they hit home. Three shells missed all together. Another one obliterated an ammunition wagon, destroying a battery of native guns. The others landed on the infantry and cavalry, killing sixty four men and ten horses.Brigadier Roberston ordered casualty figures, before spurring towards the Kaleon sentry tower. They would march in an hour. --The sea-- Aboard the RNS valiant, Commodore Robertson lowered his telescope. "The bastards have come, and will be scattered," he muttered, quoting Muskovitch. There was a large force of ships within plain sight. Many of the buggers, to be sure. "But at least four look like cargo boats!" he shouted through the speaking trumpet. The other captains, experienced sailors to a man, had all noticed this. "And the rest are bloody tiny! Take those juggernauts, comrades, and they ain't going to stand for long. Form a line of battle, and give them fire from our turrets. We outrange them, so they'll have to close." At least, he hoped they would. The ironclads formed a line, bow to stern, broadsides facing the foe. The heavy turret guns slowly rotated to face the enemy vessels. A sailor finished painting a smiling face on the front of the cannon shot, before ramming it down the muzzle of the gun. "Fire!" the blessed order came. And, with a thunder of heavy guns, they obeyed. | #13 Dec 17th 2007, 11:37am . Edited Dec 17th 2007, 11:44am

Andrew Keith"What was that?" The Kaleon calvary-man demanded to the Rakarskians. The battle ships took a few of the hits along their sides and two took large gashes in their bows, but managed to stay afloat. Two fast cruisers on each flank steamed forward diagonally, sending a volley with their broadsides as they were able to. The artillery pieces in the cargo ships opened fire with glee as the leviathans halted and stood still for them while their broadsides aimed upward and fired as well, being they're barely in range. The four battleships steamed forward some and formed a line as well, opening fire. Three more cruisers on each side followed their comrades in approaching and sending volleys with their broadsides. | #14 Dec 17th 2007, 3:48pm

awilla the hun(Kaleon Frontier)"Comrade, I am Brigadier Robertson of the Rakarskian expeditionary force," the brigadier explained calmly. "We were informed that we would be allowed to march accross your lands. And that was a Zerbian aircraft trying to stymie our progress. Note, if you will, that it too has tresspassed your lands, and that you have not stopped it. If it was to shell your cities, no doubt, you wouldn't bat an eyelid. Now get out of our way! We will not rob or hurt anyone." (Cove) ((How the hell can you say which coves are watched or unwatched in my evil lair? Isn't that my job? Anyway...)) Inquisitor Kazmarov (as seen in one of my stories) drew his pistol and stepped out of the shadows at the sight of the men. "Doing magical acts upon Rakarskian territory, comrades," he said loudly, "is a criminal offence." He took aim at the first man. (The Sea) The Valiant, under Commodore Robertson, had suffered heavy hits, and four of its guns had been unmounted. Eighteen crewmen had dies. The other ships had suffered less. And now they could return fire. The ships fired their huge broadsides, before ponderously turning around to charge into the midst of their enemies. Their turrets fired another volley at the battleships. | #16 Dec 18th 2007, 7:55am

Andrew Keith(Kaleo)"It did not cross our lands that we know of, General. You be warned, however, if anything happens to any citizens of Kaleo, I highly doubt the Rakarskian colony will still be in existence." The calvary major warned before galloping back to the tower. The men near the sentry ballistae remained crouched under the wall, not showing they are ready to fire upon command if need be. (Sea) The cruisers continued steaming around, forming a circle around the Rakarskian ships. They shot five-cannon volleys rather quickly between each other, and they continued moving, not shooting as an ally went ahead, but holding the volley off until after the cruiser had passed. The battleships continued taking the hits as well as firing back with their turrets and broadsides. One was taking on water through a gash on the starboard bow, but that compartment was closed and locked immediately, leaving the ship roughly ten feet deeper in the water on the bow side. The artillery pieces in the cargo ships, after missing some, checked their aim and launched another volley. Three of the ships aimed for one leviathan together as the last aimed for the already crippled Valiant. (Herck) The infantry stayed, waiting, as one of the planes flew overhead, damaged. They did not cheer, rather stayed silent for their fallen comrades. The pilot landed and sent word to General Yarl of what he encountered. "A rather large army of infantry, sir. Cannons and fast-shooting artillery, which shot down the Blazer. Once they arrive here, they should be easy to defeat however, with this pincer." Corporal Graven stated in his message. General Yarl nodded to himself as he finished reading the message and looked out to the frontier, waiting. | #18 Dec 18th 2007, 8:44am . Edited Dec 18th 2007, 8:47am
