The gun was removed from the window and several seconds later the door opened. A younger woman, no older than thirty, appeared in the doorway, holding the rifle in her hands. She smiled, "James! What brings you to this neck of the woods?"

"Trouble Alaina," said James grabing his daugter off the horse. "Can you look after my daughter? Why the gun?"

Alaina looked at Lizzie and nodded, "Of course I can." She looked back up at James. "For how long?"

(yeah, she did. what did you think she'd do when two men ride up to the cabin? open the door and invite them to dinner without even seeing who they are first? =D merely a safety precaution)

Alaina nodded, "That's fine. She's most welcome here." She came down the steps and walked towards James and Lizzie.

Lizzie cowered half under the horse.

"Its allright Liz," said James picking her up. "Mrs. Quinn is a friend, sweetheart, she'll take care of you till I bring Aaron and Momie back."

"Daddy!" Lizzie called out. "You'll come back, won't you? You won't forget me?"

Lizzie waved until her father was out of site, sniffing back tears. She'd never been away from him and stuck with some strange woman, before.

Alaina smiled at Lizzie and took the girl's hand. "Come on, sweetie, why don't you come help me make a pie."

Lizzie nodded and allowed the woman to lead her into the house.

(I figure we should call it a chapter here and go back to our bad guys, what do you think?)

(You should he wrote some GREAT westrens. As much as it kills me to say it he is a much better writer then Louy Lamour. And chapter it is! We should take time to interduce Quinn too. But we can do that later I guess.)
