Rozovian GAnd now, the hero steps in. *wham*And then the hero gets his ** kicked out of the topic and Rho steps in instead, with another (presumably) long and detailed post, hopefully one that evokes thoughts and ideas, but if not else, at least revealing him an intellectual show-off. Again. *ahem* So, weapons... Swords are a cliché in many ways. Depending on how our worlds' cultures developed, maybe swords were never invented, maybe people fight with weapons having developed from shovels, scythes, pitchforks, hammers, fishnets, oars, and other tools. If so, we're bound to have to develop new terms and new ideas on how weapons work and are used. If not, we should still attempt to find some way of making our wepons culture different than the countless other fantasy stories we've read or heard of. There's the downright metallurgical approach, asking what the weapons are made of. Depending on the material, we can end up with very lightweight, large weapons, or heavy, yet small weapons (some flails could use such materials). Some basic knowledge of chemistry and metallurgy is recommended, just in case anyone thinks aluminum foil is a good source material. Then there's the practical approach: how is the weapon used? If the weapon was developed in a forest environment, it'd likely be made not to be in the way. If it was made for dragon riders or any less cliched equivalent, they'd be weapons that can be used from the back (tho... why not fasten yourself beneath the dragon instead?) of their steed. This applies to oliphaunt-equivalents as well as ships and stilts and other things. Then, without making it too steampunk (tho Jave Harron would probably just love to make this another steampunk thread), there's gunpowder. What kind of weapons can you make with that? Aside from guns, there's mines, rockets, bombs, cannons... And there's also Greek fire, a kind of napalm. Combine those with catapults and you have really nasty bombs. Yeah, and there I mentioned catapults, too. What about sneaky weapons, curved blades, weapons with built-on shields to more easily fight lions without getting eaten, and trolls without getting beaten (eh, sorry for the rhyme)? We're not confined to actual, real-world weapons, although knowledge of those help. And finally, there's axes. Axes are cool. I like axes. | #104 Apr 07th 2007, 9:42am

Tragic and DevastatedThose axes are okay weapons in general, i limit the use of axes to shorter creatures or larger axes for gigantic creatres, ex. giants/trolls. It makes them seem more levelled out somehow, for they are seemingly clumsy. It seems it's just how your race/characters are. If they're graceful and agile, most people would put a thin sword or bow to them. If they're stockier, then it's more a broader sword or something like that. I don't really deal with shield myself, except in a true fight (war). Because on a basis, those are heavy and makes the weilder more weighed down.Anyone see 300 here? personally, that was a great movie ^^... except when the guy was beheaded in front of his dad. They all would die in the end, but he had to die like THAT? yeah, that aggrivated me. TAD | #106 Apr 11th 2007, 10:39am
