Topic: Ideas that have failed!
I made this topic so if people want they can place their ideas here for stories and/or any other thing that has to do with fantasy. Of course no one has the right to steal your idea, but this is only to judge the idea if you want some honesty. I've had many ideas and trust me they've failed.

So who here has had some of those??? LOL

I tried to write a comic once about a guy who gets depressed because his girlfriend dumped him, then comes back from the dead, but there's a spell binding him to the graveyard so that he's not allowed to leave. But he was stuck at the graveyard... so not a whole lot could happen... and I didn't realize this until I'd already drawn six pages! X_x

Oh plenty, but usually they just grow on to be an even better story than before.

I had this whole story mapped out about a really plain girl named Marlis. She was a human in a world full of really beautiful elven people, but she didn't know she was human, and always felt lost. She grew up in a modest farming community, and on her I believe 17th birthday, she decides to head out and discover the world.

What eventually happens is she runs into two very attractive male (and gay xD) mercenaries, and for some odd reason they take her under their wing and hire her. I honestly don't know WHY they do that, now that I think back. It was a pretty cool idea, though, conceptually. Marlis goes on a ton of different adventures, and lives in a city that's like... magic, nature and technology all together combined.

The problem mainly was in character development. I thought too much about the world and not enough about the character's motivations, feelings, etc. The malexmale couple I had thought up suddenly came off as unappealing to me (one was very stoic while the other was really bubbly... it didn't appeal to me after a couple years, and it still doesn't now), Marlis was just really boring, and her female love interest did not really go anywhere in my mind because it was just kind of thrown in.

I wrote only so far as what would be considered a prologue--a very long one. Mainly Marlis' journey from her country life to the city. Once it got to the city, I was kinda like "... kay now what do I do?" Haha. I had thought of something, but the interest didn't stay long enough to go through with it, and my idea hopped from that to a completely different one.

I mentioned years in there. I had pretty much been developing it for years, but now I realize I was more like developing concepts to use later.

I'm recycling a lot from the story into the story I'm writing now for the fantasy section, with some new ideas too.

One of the big ones I decided to throw in was "elken". They're honestly based off of the deer that the guy rode in Miyazaki's "Mononoke Hime", but I grew from the idea. They're basically the horses in the world, and are both domesticated and wild. Just really big deer/elk/gazelle type deals. They're neat. :]

Also goblins were recyled from that story, but are faaaar more developed in this new story.

A lot more stuff too, but I'd rather not get into all that. Overall, I don't regret dropping the story, but I don't regret thinking it up either. It was fun, and it was the very first story I began to write... and I just couldn't stop writing! It was amazing. I spent the whole night writing it all out. I stopped after... 21 pages? I was really proud. I wish I still had the original draft to see how my writing was back then. Gawsh. I wrote another draft or two before I dropped it, I believe.

lolol, omg, i've had so many of those, but i never really remember them... i've had virtual world ideas (like the one i'm trying to do now) and some other more mythical stuff. most of what works for me is female leads with real life situations. okay, that so wasn't a failure idea was it...

Oh, I'm a recycler, usually of characters, or character traits, but occasionally of concepts and ideas that I liked, when everything else sucked.

For example, I once wrote over fifty pages about one character I created... Then realized that there was no plot, and it sucked. The character is still in my head, waiting for a story, and she's evolved in my mind over time.

Then I had this island world where there were several different races of people, the people of the mountain, the people of the valley below the mountain, the people of the sky, the people of the waters, and the people of the forest. That entire world was scrapped, but I went on later to keep some of the major characteristics of some of those races and make them into the various elven races of my new world, each one native to a different geographical region, except for the Valley elves (which somehow kept their name in the reworking, lol).

There was another story, back in my early days, where there were some girls that got their hands on some magical rings that an evil sorceress wanted, and would try to get at all costs. There was one character, a minion of the sorceress who was actually a spy for the side of good. The story was completely scrapped, but I loved the character so much, I kept her for another story, completely different.

actually, i agree with that. when i tear apart a story, sometimes i save the characters or specific scenes because they stood out. hehe.

Yeah I've been doing that. Write heaps of random stories that you thought were okay and had good ideas. Take all the best elements after a while and do a cross-over/combination - shove the best together and there is your new perfect stories. There's got to be something worth in them.

Yes, there is. I've confirmed that through my experiments. I'm sure.
