Topic: Forbidden Forest
Huge, looming trees with grasping branches creak and moan in a wind that never reaches the ground, save for the sound of it moaning. Dead leaves litter the underbrush along with dead insect carapaces and the scuttle of live beetles. The soil is dry and ashy, puffing up with each step to coat the throat and dry the mouth. Thorny bushes with dark green stalks and blood-red thorns hamper progress, and here and there large rock formations jut into the sterile air. Tiny black flowers bloom at the base of the grey-hued trees, and thick vines creep along to snag the unwary.

Features:

The Grey Trees: They move. Don’t trust to landmarks, they betray the mind. These trees seek to keep the wanderer forever walking the paths until they die, and give nourishment to these hulking giants. Only those of sound minds or those with a guide—say, a denizen of the forest or a magical creature—can find their way through.

Fountain of Sleep: Should a thirsty traveler hear the trickle of water, they may come upon an ancient stone fountain of a beautiful woman, now headless, holding a jar from which water pours to fall into the clogged basin below. Should the traveler drink the water, they will fall into a deep, ageless sleep for one hundred years and a day.

Creeper Vines: thick, dark green vines that cling to the trees, awaiting prey. Any prey. Anything falling asleep while not in shelter will be covered, suffocated, and consumed. There are quite a few of them growing around the Fountain of Sleep.

Barren Caverns: Usually the only way to find an entrance to these is to fall into it, usually injuring oneself. These depressing caves are filled with bats, giant centipedes, and less appealing creatures that may cheerfully eat one.

Giant Shrooms: Do not eat. Or lick. Just Don’t. Nothing bad will happen to you, but you’ll make the ogres mad.

Giant Bean Stalks: Um…I believe you should know this story.

Ominous Ruins: Lots of horrid little animals live here. If you venture into them…well, they’re ruins. They’re like to collapse on you as not. Oh, and occasionally they’re not ruins at all, but the teeth of some giant monster that will promptly eat you.

Morgan Le Fay's Cottage.

Morgan walked out of the Forbidden Forest, gazing at the shadows cast by the moonlight on everything surrounding her. The light breeze blew her skirt around her ankles and she gazed at the surroundings of the town of Tiffin she had called home for several years. Then she left her usual boundaries and continued walking, heading to the Endless Falls.

Dew went running into the forest. She tried to keep the panic from taking control, but knew that since the person was now following her it wouldn't be too long before she lost control and did something she didn't want to.

Morgan re-entered the forest and felt even more comfortable there. She easily saw the path the person had used and followed it, moving swiftly through her home.

To try and keep her other half at bay, Dew whirled around and screamed at the woman following her, "LEAVE ME ALONE!!" Before turning and beginning to run again, chanting various words under her breath to try and keep calm. ((Bed time))

Morgan shifted to crow form and caught up with the person she was following, landing behind her and shifting again. "This forest holds many things and most of them will lead you deeper and deeper until you perish," she stated coolly. "If you wish to survive the forest, I would suggest allowing me to assist you."

"Bloody 'el." Dew said as she skidded to a stop turning around to see the woman who she had been trying to run from standing right behind her. "Tell me who you are and I'll listen." She said as she tried to calm the raising of her heart.

Morgan stared at the woman for a few moments before she said anything, her light grey eyes piercing through her. "Names hold a certain amount of power in this realm. I am known by many different ones. You may have heard of me. I am the Queen of Shadowlands, and a daughter of Avalon."

Dew's eyes squinted as she tried to place the inforamtion that she had been given, but could only say to the woman in front of her "I think I might have heard of you in stories, but I'm not sure. What do you want?"

Morgan chuckled lightly. "Nothing from you. This forest is known for the number of disappearances of men and women entering and becoming lost. There are many paths here and the change often, confusing all but the few who have the priviledge of dwelling here."

"Fine. If you want nothing from me, then please lead me from here and if anyone asks, you never saw me." She said as she looked about herself, never turning her back on the woman in front of her.

"Very well. Do you have need of anything in regards to supplies? I could give you food, beverage, or anything else you may require on your travels."

"Wait. You said that only dwellers of this place can make their way around right?" She asked feeling slightly hopeful and knowing that it showed on her face.

Morgan nodded. "After dwelling here for a period of time, one becomes acquainted with the forest and how to make one's way through it."
#14 Jan 12th, 8:21pm

"So, if someone...or something, doesn't live here it won't be able to make its way around, right?"
#15 Jan 12th, 8:22pm
Danielle Thamasa
"Those not of the Forbidden Forest will be lost, yes."
#16 Jan 12th, 8:23pm

"Then, is there a way that you can keep me here, or help me to learn how to move through this forest?" Dew quickly looked up at the sky, trying to figure out how much time she might have.

"What reason would you have for staying in the Forbidden Forest? It is the home of only a few creatures and even fewer people." Morgan watched the woman intently.

Dew looked at the woman with fear-filled eyes and tried to think of something to say but couldn't, so she just looked away from those peircing eyes to stare at the forest floor.

"What is it that you do not wish to tell me?" Morgan asked. "As a gesture of faith, I will tell you...my name is Morgan le Fay."

Dew's eyes grew slightly larger as the name registered in her mind. She looked around as if wondering how safe it was for her to speak and with a look of determination on her face she faced Morgan. "I'm being hunted and do not wish to be found." She bite her lip, wondering if she would be able to not tell this sorceress everything.

Morgan nodded saying nothing as she turned away from the woman and began walking deeper into the forest. "Follow me, if you wish."

Dew let out a sigh of relief as she began to follow Morgan.

Morgan strolled through the forest, stopping to pick up various herbs as she went, saying nothing and barely even concentrating on her surroundings, which made anyone else think they were walking in circles; everything looked the same to outsiders.

After the first few minutes of everything looking the same, Dew gave up trying to figure out her surroundings and decided to focus on the woman who was walking in front of her. She couldn't help but let her thoughts stray, not paying attention to where they were going.

Eventually they came to a cottage nestled in a grove of trees. Morgan walked in, leaving the door open for the woman following her. Then she went to her herb pantry and began to store her herbs.

"Um.." Dew began to say as she walked into the cottage before stopping what she was saying and looking down at her feet.

After a few moments Morgan returned to the main room. "Would you like a beverage?" she asked. "Feel free to have a seat, if you wish."

Dew walked over towards the fireplace and sat down a few feet away from it, looking anywhere but at Morgan. "I'll pass on the drink." She mumbled.
#29 Jan 12th, 9:07pm
Danielle Thamasa
"Very well," Morgan answered, concentrating on putting together a small pot of stew for dinner.
#30 Jan 12th, 9:08pm

Dew looked over at Morgan and nearly spilled everything, but she knew that if she wanted to survive she shouldn't talk about anything that was related to why she was running and hiding. She looked down at her hands that were folded in her lap, trying to find something to say to fill the silence that began to thicken the air in the cottage.

Morgan carried the small pot over to the fire and hung it on the rack, which she swung into the fireplace. Seeing the nearly dead fire she waved her hand over it and the flames leaped up.

Dew looked at the dancing flames and breathed in the scent of the stew. The smells and sight of the dancing flames helped to calm her down a bit and get her thoughts together.

Morgan turned and walked over to her table, sitting down with hands folded on the edge of the table, staring over at the fireplace, her eyes taking in the dancing flames...and the shadows formed by them.

"What do you know of dragons?" Dew asked, never taking her eyes away from the flames.
#35 Jan 12th, 9:16pm

"They have been written into several different tomes, though only very basic information. No one has ever been able to record more than that."
#36 Jan 12th, 9:20pm

"Um...so what would you say if I told you that I am one?" Dew asked, drawing into herself and staring intently into the flames as if looking for something.
#37 Jan 12th, 9:22pm

"Then I would ask you why you are here and from whom or what are you running," Morgan answered simply.

Dew looked over at Morgan before quickly averting her gaze. She knew that she needed to tell the sorceress, but could she really trust her. She glanced at Morgan again with her mouth open before looking away and closing her mouth.

"You do not need to fear me for any reason. I live in here to keep away from the mundanes and others who would seek to use my talents for their own personal gain. When I do go into the town, I rarely speak to anyone other than to request the supplies I need."
#40 Jan 12th, 9:32pm

Dew chuckled to herself before she said, "I feel that I can trust you, but years of being unable to trust anyone has always made me think about the person that I am talking to and made me question whether or not I can trust them. I also have learned to watch what words I say. I don't believe it's you." She couldn't help but to stare at the flames as they jumped and danced only a few feet away from her. She felt hypnotized, and knew that she would need to turn away. So she did, but avoided looking at the area that Morgan occupied.
#41 Jan 12th, 9:39pm
Danielle Thamasa
"I understand that feeling. Trust is hard to gain and easy to lose. I have lived that scenario many times in the past."
#42 Jan 12th, 9:43pm
kaa
"Yeah. It's a pain in the butt isn't it?" She chuckled to herself. "Give me a bit of time to think things over and then I will tell you when I have everything figured out. Is that ok?" Dew could only hope that Morgan would agree.
#43 Jan 12th, 9:59pm
Danielle Thamasa
"Do what you wish. I have plenty of time." She stood up and walked over to the stew, stirring it with a long wooden spoon. "Would you like anything to eat while you think things through?"
#44 Jan 12th, 10:00pm
kaa
"Maybe in a bit. Would it be safe for me to walk around the cottage for a bit?" Dew asked as she looked out one of the windows.
#45 Jan 12th, 10:01pm
Danielle Thamasa
Morgan nodded. "If you become lost I will hear of it and come to find you. Nothing happens in the forest that I am not aware of."
#46 Jan 12th, 10:03pm
kaa
"Ok, thank you." With that Dew walked out of the cottage and into the crisp morning air. She watched as the sky began to brighten, signaling the coming dawn.

Morgan continued about her normal routine, ladling stew into a bowl made of clay and sat down at the table to eat.

Dew looked about herself at the cottage and the forest that surrounded it. She placed her hands in her pockets and began to slowly walk around the cottage. She looked at the cottage itself and the forest as she thought about all the things she had to say and thought about which ones didn't need to be said. She made a check list in her mind and soon stopped looking at the world around her, instead she zoned out and thought about what was in her mind.

Once she had finished her stew, Morgan set about cleaning her bowl, then went to the other room, straightening up the room she slept in. When she deemed it to be finished she went to her living room, sitting down and picking up one of her tomes on magick, opening it up and beginning to read.
