WHAT IS A BETA?

"Beta" is short for "beta reader". They are essentially your editors. They read over your work, point out mistakes that you may have made, suggest things you could do to improve your work, etc. They provide you with a second pair of eyes who do not know your characters or what's going to happen like you do. They can point out plot holes and character inconsistencies that you may have not noticed before.

WHAT GENRES ARE ALLOWED HERE?

Even though this service is sponsored by a romance site, we allow for all genres to be posted here.

--

WHAT IF I DON'T WANT TO BETA ANYMORE?

If you are currently a beta for an author, please speak to the author about your reasons. Then (if you are posted on the "The Betas" topic) delete your reply on the betas topic, or contact me (e-mail, PM, IM, whatever) so I can delete your reply for you.

CAN I BETA FOR MORE THAN ONE PERSON?

Of course! Beta for as many people as you'd like. Just make sure you can handle all the authors. (:

--

HOW MANY STORIES CAN I POST UP ON THE "THE AUTHORS" TOPIC?

As many as you'd like. (:

HOW MANY STORIES CAN I POST UP ON THE "THE BETAS" TOPIC?

Well you'd only need one, wouldn't you? One per user. (: Spam isn't appreciated.

I need to know if it is possible to edit chapter content on fictionpress without having to upload the whole thing all over again. I don't mean just the name of the chapter. Let's say I've edited my writing and would like my readers to be able to read the edited version, could I either change it online or upload essentially the same chapter of the same story except slightly better? Or would that be agains the rules and would my story or account by deleted?

Thanks for your time!

Very much possible! Here are two ways you can do this. The first few steps are the same.

1. Go to your author panel, click on "Stories".

2. Your stories should be listed. Next to the story that you wish to edit, there should be two links called "edit" and "preview". Click "edit".

3. Then, click "Content/Chapters".

From here, it branches off, depending on how you want to edit your story. Here's the first way:

4. Find the chapter that you wish to edit. Next to it, there should be four links: "edit", "del", "exp", and "dl". You'll want to click "exp", which stands for "export". Immediately, a message should appear which says something along the lines of: "Chapter exported to Document Manager as Export: CHAPTER NAME Ch: #".

5. Go to the link "Documents" on your left hand navigation. You'll see that your file is there. Click "Edit/Preview" to edit the file. Edit to your fancy. (:

6. After you're finished putting in all your revisions, save it. Then, repeat steps #1-3.

7. At the bottom of the page, there should be a "Replace Chapter" box. Select the chapter you wish to replace and the document from your document manager you wish to replace the chapter with. Finally, click the button "Replace".

Here's the second way:

4. This is mostly the same as the previous way, except this is if you edited the story outside of FictionPress, on Word, or something of the sort. Upload the edited file onto the document manager under "Documents". Then, repeat steps #1-3.

5. Refer to step #7 above for the final step.

It's perfectly allowed, don't worry. It's why FictionPress allowed the "Replace" feature in the first place (we are fickled-minded writers, we can't help it).

Thank you so much! You have no idea how many times I've tried on my own. I never realized you could edit more than the name of the chapter on fictionpress! And then had to delete the chapter and all the reviews along with it!

If only I'd asked earlier, huh?

Thanks a million!
