Evander jumped away, breathing hard. The beam carved a crater into the street.

"Impressive ... but you don't really wanna mess up my pretty face, do you?"

"Beauty is immaterial."

"Not to me," Casper smiled. "Not bein what I am."

The being raised its hand again.

"You don't really wanna do that," Casper muttered, his voice layered.

The being cocked its head, pointing its hand at Evander. "You mean this?"

"Yeah ... don't."

The being shrugged, letting another beam shoot out at Evander. Evander rolled out of the way, but fell into the resulting crater.

"Damnit! I earned him, so don't try!"

Evander was hiding under an overhang inside the crater, listening to the being walking slowly towards Casper.

Casper stood his ground. "Don't you think I've given up a lot for this ..."

The being kept walking towards Casper.

Casper watched him, then smiled. "You know, I can kill you."

The being stopped, looking slightly unsure.

Casper grinned, pressing his advantage. "But, I dare say you'd like it, just a bit."

"And why would we like death?"

"With me, it's an ... experience."

"We know your kind, incubus. We decline your... offer."

"Oh, do you now? If I decide I want you, what makes you think you've got a choice?"

"We will resist you."

"Will you?"

"Yes, incubus."

"You're sure on that, are you?" Casper smiled, talking a step forward.

"Yes," the being repeated, raising its hand again.

Casper took another step forward. "But I really do want this to work ..."

"You love the halfling in the crater. You do not love us."

"Who says so? Can't I love more than one?"

"It is a fact, even if you are ignorant of it."

"Maybe ... but couldn't I learn to love you?
